Mum is bed bound and went into the home in 2013 after a six-month stay in the hospital. They have the staff and equipment to make her life easy. She enjoys family visits but Inky, the PAT dog gets the most and biggest smiles. The family has peace of mind that Mum is being well looked after and is safe.

My husband thinks the home is brilliant and he is very happy here. I spend nearly every day with him and the staff are lovely towards me as well. My sister became a resident in Hartcliffe Nursing Home in May 2016.
I am so happy that we choose this home, it is well kept and my sister is well looked after. She is always clean and happy. The staff and helpers are friendly, helpful and always polite. My sister cannot talk or do anything for herself,
so it is a great weight taken off my mind that she is so well looked after.

I visited my nan (who is a paying resident) and unfortunately, I was disappointed with the level of cleanliness and care attention shown to my nan. She just came out of a short stay in a hospital and needed around the clock care & attention, which she was not getting. When I arrived around 9:30am, I
found white powder all over the carpet in her room, along with some of her poo that was stepped into her carpet. Her bathroom was covered with poo, which was also in her slippers. It was devastating to see my nan in this condition. Staff said the mess was left by the night staff. To me, this was passing the buck. Even if it was the night staff's fault, my nan was still being neglected by staff that were currently on duty, as they obviously been in her room to give my nan her breakfast, as the empty plates were still there. They obviously decided to leave my nan, her room & her bathroom in a right state. Once I complained, they still took their time to deal with it. I was not impressed at all.

Since mum has been at Hartcliffe Nursing Home her health has improved, mum is less anxious and much more settled. She eats better and has quality of life. Staff understand her and provide good care. There are activities if she wishes to do. They work very hard and long hours. I feel mum is safe and
well looked after. I see her 4 days a week but can relax on the other days, she is in safe hands.

The team at Hartcliffe are all very friendly and very helpful. The food is first class and plentiful to the extent my friend is starting to put weight on which is a good thing. The staff give a good professional approach while keeping the friendly but respectful attitude. There are lots of activities
going on both in and out of the home.

My Dad moved to the care home in February this year. He has settled in really well thanks to the caring and friendly staff. The food is really good quality and the home is kept clean and tidy. Nothing is too much trouble when you ask for things and the staff have also been very supportive to me and
my family when we decided to move my Dad there. It wasn't an easy time for any of us and we've been made to feel very welcome every time we come to visit.

Mum found herself at Hartcliffe by accident. Quite literally! After having a nasty fall whilst living on her own she was sent for rehab through the NHS. It became apparent that Mum would no longer be able to live on her own, and as a family, we were given enormous support by the whole team at Hartcliffe
to enable Mum to stay. We cannot praise the staff enough in making Mum feel welcome and she has gone from not wanting to enter a Home to wanting to stay at Hartcliffe. All the staff from Manager to Maintenance know Mum by name and will always have time to stop and talk to any of us. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hartcliffe Nursing Home. Indeed I have already done so!

Sara Cryer

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

Sara is Bristol-born and began her career as a registered nurse in 1989. For the past 30 years she has worked in care homes and specialised in adults with learning difficulties. Sara joined Hartcliffe as the home's manager in 2022 and says "Hartcliffe is a very unique and special place within the community, it's very well loved and I feel proud to be the manager here." When Sara isn't working, she loves being with her family, two dogs and three cats.

Marina

Marina Topcic Garcia

Job Title: Deputy Home Manager

Joined: 2022

Our Deputy Home Manager Marina qualified as a nurse in Croatia in 2002, moved to the social care sector in 2015, before joining Hartcliffe in 2022. What makes Hartcliffe special for Marina is the home's compassion for its residents, especially when it comes to end-of-life care. A yoga regular, Marina enjoys going to the gym and spending time with her family.

Bob

Bob Adams

Job Title: Maintenance Lead and Gardener

Joined: 2016

Bob has lived in Hartcliffe suburb all his life and was a self-employed paint refinisher for years before coming to the home in 2016. Now Bob is the go-to person for all maintenance and gardening in and outside the home. His favourite memories of Hartcliffe are the many parties that have been held here. Bob even hand-built the outdoor Willow Bar which was officially opened for the home's 25th anniversary celebration in 2025.

Lynsey-Ruth

Lynsey-Ruth McDonagh

Job Title: Chaplain

Lynsey-Ruth is our dedicated chaplain who offers personal support, comfort and a listening ear to anyone who needs it. She also arranges worship services for those who want to join and encourages residents to keep in touch with local faith groups. Based at Hartcliffe since January 2025, Lynsey-Ruth enjoys poetry, going to the theatre and being in the great outdoors.

Tracey Cocking

Job Title: Activities Co-ordinator

Tracey's grandfather was a Hartcliffe resident, so she knew it was a loving and compassionate home before she joined in 2017 as a carer. She later became one of the home's Activities Co-ordinators in 2022 and is part of a team responsible for planning and delivering a fun, engaging and meaningful schedule that all residents can enjoy. Tracey is a pet lover and keen gardener.

Chris Webb

Job Title: Hospitality Manager

Joined: 2000

Chris was a part of Hartcliffe before it even opened! Having trained as a chef before becoming a hotel manager, Chris has worked in hospitality for over 40 years and helped shape the design of Hartcliffe. Originally from Wales, he still enjoys cooking and baking, as well as taking long walks and spending time with his beloved cat.


Chris said: “I can't believe it's been 25 years since I joined, especially as it was only meant to be a stopgap, as I had just moved to Bristol. To be honest, I got addicted to the job, the residents, their family members and the staff have kept me here. In all my 25 years I have worked here, I always work Christmas Day. For me it's important to spend such a special day with our residents, as for some it may be their last. It's by far the longest time I have spent in a job, and I am so happy I have spent it at MHA Hartcliffe.


"Working for an organisation like MHA, I do feel they appreciate all their staff members, and you are treated as a person and not a number. I know lots of people who work in care, but it's nothing like working for MHA. I'm at that stage in my life where If I want I can retire, but I enjoy my job so much that I can't even think about retiring or moving on. A lot of the staff joke and say that they will see me here as a resident one day!.”
