Overall Experience

Found the level of basic care extremely poor and very disappointing resulting in removal and relocation to an alternative care home following 18 months of continued issues. We found lots of possessions were removed and not replaced or returned. Staff not attending pendant calls (3 times on 1 occasion) not ideal for a resident at high risk of falling and limited mobility. Time-critical medication given late or just left on the table whilst residents are asleep. We found requests not being met and long periods of waiting when asking for help. Yesterday we arrived to find our relative soaked in urine and had been left in bed to have breakfast for 3 hours until we arrived at 10.15am. Very difficult organisation to deal with do not involve families with care details or updates (we found she had covid from someone visiting another resident). The senior management team is not proactive and seems to have very little interest in complaints. Withheld medication on departure resulting in further safeguarding issues.

There are no words I can use that would be good enough to describe this nursing home.
Choosing a nursing home for someone you love is such a huge decision, my only regret is that my Nan didn't go to Hartcliffe Nursing Home sooner! The staff go above and beyond all expectations. They treated my Nan with such dignity and care which was really important to us, as my Nan had always been so independent.
The staff became like an extended family to us, they were kind, helpful, friendly and just amazing. After experiencing a nursing home before this one I can honestly say this one is just incredible.
The way we were treated when my Nan sadly passed made the painful experience so much more bearable and I will always be grateful for this.
I wouldn't hesitate to choose this place over and over. I could go on and on with nothing but praise.

Thank you all so much for everything you do, and did for us and all the other residents and families. I would recommend this home to anyone.

My father was admitted for end of life care. Although her was only there for a fortnight, he was well looked after and cared for with dignity. Each time we visited, we had to undergo a Covid test and complete a contact form. Although my father didn't partake in the activities prompted by the home, it was clearly enjoyed by the other residents, and therefore, created a happy atmosphere in which to live. I would like to thank again all involved in his care.

The fact that my mother is smiling and seemingly happy when I visit makes me feel that she is safe and happy. I need this since I cannot visit her often. However, it would be useful if the key worker rang me to update me about anything she may need. I don't ring as I know people are very busy so better communication would help. Thanks.

Review from Peggiann C (Sister of Resident) published on 23 December 2020 Submitted via Postal Card

My sister became a resident in Hartcliffe in April, but because of lockdown, I only got to visit her in August. She seemed very happy, and when speaking on the phone with her, she always tells me how kind everyone is to her. She says she enjoys the food and has made friends. I have been able to see her three more times now, and she looks very relaxed. Both managers and the staff I have had dealings with have always been most helpful, and nothing is too much trouble for them. So, thank you all.

I just wanted to say a huge thanks to all the staff who looked after my aunty. The nurses gave her exceptional care in this difficult time of covid, keeping me informed and giving hope, the carers looked after her, and I know at times this was very difficult, but I felt with their care I was able to feel relaxed, sadly she died on 29/11/20, but the care she received was the best, I can't fault it. Hopefully, this will give other people peace of mind, if looking for a care home for their relatives. Hopefully, in the coming year, I may be able to give back in some way. Many thanks.

When my sister and I walked into Hartcliffe Nursing Home and was shown around by a member of the team, we knew straight away what a caring, friendly place it was. There were music and activities going on all around and the staff that we met were friendly and welcoming to us. Mum was only there a short time but the outstanding care that she received from all nurses and care staff to the whole team of employees showed her so much compassion and love until she sadly passed away. We as a family would like to say a heartfelt thank you and God bless you all. Stay safe at these very hard times.

I don't think we could have found better care for mum for the last few years of her life. Very friendly helpful staff in so many ways and we know Mum was comfortable as she would always smile when any members of staff came into her room while we were with her. Mum didn't eat much but always enjoyed those homemade cakes as we did. We will miss Mum so much and all the staff at Hartcliffe Nursing Home.

Chris Webb
Chris WebbJob Title:Hospitality ManagerJoined: 2000

Chris was a part of Hartcliffe before it even opened! Having trained as a chef before becoming a hotel manager, Chris has worked in hospitality for over 40 years and helped shape the design of Hartcliffe. Originally from Wales, he still enjoys cooking and baking, as well as taking long walks and spending time with his beloved cat.

Chris said: “I can't believe it's been 25 years since I joined, especially as it was only meant to be a stopgap, as I had just moved to Bristol. To be honest, I got addicted to the job, the residents, their family members and the staff have kept me here. In all my 25 years I have worked here, I always work Christmas Day. For me it's important to spend such a special day with our residents, as for some it may be their last. It's by far the longest time I have spent in a job, and I am so happy I have spent it at MHA Hartcliffe.

"Working for an organisation like MHA, I do feel they appreciate all their staff members, and you are treated as a person and not a number. I know lots of people who work in care, but it's nothing like working for MHA. I'm at that stage in my life where If I want I can retire, but I enjoy my job so much that I can't even think about retiring or moving on. A lot of the staff joke and say that they will see me here as a resident one day!.”
