My father was admitted for end of life care. Although her was only there for a fortnight, he was well looked after and cared for with dignity. Each time we visited, we had to undergo a Covid test and complete a contact form. Although my father didn't partake in the activities prompted by the home, it
was clearly enjoyed by the other residents, and therefore, created a happy atmosphere in which to live. I would like to thank again all involved in his care.
Reply from Rachel Clapham, Home Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeThank you for a lovely review. It’s good to read that your father was well looked after by our team. I will share your review with the staff, who will welcome positive comments.

The fact that my mother is smiling and seemingly happy when I visit makes me feel that she is safe and happy. I need this since I cannot visit her often. However, it would be useful if the key worker rang me to update me about anything she may need. I don't ring as I know people are very busy so better
communication would help. Thanks.
Reply from Rachel Clapham, Home Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeMany thanks for your lovely review. I have discussed this with the keyworker involved, who will keep you updated with anything your mother may need. Thanks for your continued support.

My sister became a resident in Hartcliffe in April, but because of lockdown, I only got to visit her in August. She seemed very happy, and when speaking on the phone with her, she always tells me how kind everyone is to her. She says she enjoys the food and has made friends. I have been able to see
her three more times now, and she looks very relaxed. Both managers and the staff I have had dealings with have always been most helpful, and nothing is too much trouble for them. So, thank you all.

I just wanted to say a huge thanks to all the staff who looked after my aunty. The nurses gave her exceptional care in this difficult time of covid, keeping me informed and giving hope, the carers looked after her, and I know at times this was very difficult, but I felt with their care I was able to
feel relaxed, sadly she died on 29/11/20, but the care she received was the best, I can't fault it. Hopefully, this will give other people peace of mind, if looking for a care home for their relatives. Hopefully, in the coming year, I may be able to give back in some way. Many thanks.
Reply from Kelly Irwin, Administration Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeThank you for your incredibly kind words, it was a pleasure to look after your aunty; she made us all smile. I will share this lovely review with the team, who will feel very proud. Please feel free to contact us if you need us for anything.

When my sister and I walked into Hartcliffe Nursing Home and was shown around by a member of the team, we knew straight away what a caring, friendly place it was. There were music and activities going on all around and the staff that we met were friendly and welcoming to us. Mum was only there a short
time but the outstanding care that she received from all nurses and care staff to the whole team of employees showed her so much compassion and love until she sadly passed away. We as a family would like to say a heartfelt thank you and God bless you all. Stay safe at these very hard times.

I don't think we could have found better care for mum for the last few years of her life. Very friendly helpful staff in so many ways and we know Mum was comfortable as she would always smile when any members of staff came into her room while we were with her. Mum didn't eat much but always enjoyed
those homemade cakes as we did. We will miss Mum so much and all the staff at Hartcliffe Nursing Home.

My mum moved into Hartcliffe Nursing Home in May 2019, and the lovely, warm welcome she received by all the carers and staff, was second to none, she loved it there. Sadly she passed away on 21/12/2019. She was always treated with care and respect and was much appreciated by all her family, and we can't
thank them all enough.

The nurses and carers are excellent, they are so friendly and helpful to my mother-in-law, who did not want to go into a nursing home, but we would not even be able to drag her out of there now, she loves it and is very settled. It is December and the decorations put up are amazing, the manager emphasised
how important it is to make the residents happy.
Food and cleanliness also excellent, the family can feel confident and happy Mum is in the right place. Excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.829)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.829) out of 10 for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.829 for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (217 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 251 Ratings = 4.829
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Chris Webb

Job Title: Hospitality Manager Joined: 2000

Chris was a part of Hartcliffe before it even opened! Having trained as a chef before becoming a hotel manager, Chris has worked in hospitality for over 40 years and helped shape the design of Hartcliffe. Originally from Wales, he still enjoys cooking and baking, as well as taking long walks and spending time with his beloved cat.

Chris said: “I can't believe it's been 25 years since I joined, especially as it was only meant to be a stopgap, as I had just moved to Bristol. To be honest, I got addicted to the job, the residents, their family members and the staff have kept me here. In all my 25 years I have worked here, I always work Christmas Day. For me it's important to spend such a special day with our residents, as for some it may be their last. It's by far the longest time I have spent in a job, and I am so happy I have spent it at MHA Hartcliffe.

"Working for an organisation like MHA, I do feel they appreciate all their staff members, and you are treated as a person and not a number. I know lots of people who work in care, but it's nothing like working for MHA. I'm at that stage in my life where If I want I can retire, but I enjoy my job so much that I can't even think about retiring or moving on. A lot of the staff joke and say that they will see me here as a resident one day!.”
