Before my dad went into this nursing home, we were really worried as he always said he did not want to go into a nursing or care home. His dementia and cancer were at a stage, that myself and my sister could not do anymore at home. It was getting harder and harder, we had been doing this for 3 years.
On arrival they made us feel so welcome and it was as if we knew everyone straight away. This home is very caring the staff are all very hard working and most of them always have a lovely smile. My dad is very comfortable and he absolutely loves it here. I would recommend this Nursing Home to anybody who is looking for help or even rest bite care, as Dad did start off with two weeks respite, then did not want to go home.

I have never been in such a lovely care home. The person I visit on a regular basis, cared for her for 31 years before she came into the care home. Never seen her so happy, there is just not one bad thing I could say about the home. Very caring and friendly staff.
Reply from Sara Cryer, Home Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeThank you for such a lovely feedback. It means a lot to us to hear that we are making such a positive impact on the lives of our residents. I will make sure to share this feedback with the rest of the team.

My mum is generally very happy here from my point of view more attention to be paid to her personal needs. it would be nice if residents were regularly asked if there's anything needed to be done for example helped with undressing or a trip to the toilet etc.
Reply from Sara Cryer, Home Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback and it is nice to know that your mum is happy here as she is loved by all. We welcome all feedback as this helps us to continually improve the service we provide, and should you wish to talk to us about any of the points raised, our door is always open.

Mum came to the home for end-of-life care, which proved to be just one week. During that week Mum told us how pleased she was with her room and how kind her nurses and carers were, both day and night. She was kept clean and tidy throughout her short stay. The whole process of fast-tracking her admission
was dealt with very efficiently.
The family felt well-supported during this time and was kept informed about what was happening. The staff were sensitive and caring towards the family following her death.
The home manager and admin staff were also very helpful, informative and supportive.

Mother-in-law has taken a while to settle. A couple of small issues at the beginning but all ok now. The home is very nice and clean. The rooms are all spotlessly clean. Plenty of activities for residents. Food is lovely and always friendly staff. Residents are treated well and always seem to be enjoying
themselves in the communal room. The staff have been absolutely wonderful with my mother-in-law.

After a horrendous week of respite at another local care home. I couldn't believe my good fortune whenmy husband was placed at Hartcliffe Nursing Home. Every single member of staff are part of a caring and loving family who go out of their way to cater for the residents' needs. The food and choices
are of a hotel standard which forms a big part of some residents' daily routine. It is such a big comfort to know that my husband is being careful in such a lovely environment and so much better than he would be if he was at home with me.

The level of care my father receives is of a high standard. My mother was no longer able to provide him with the level of care he needed at home. Seeing how he is spoken to and treated, I have no concerns and I am grateful for everything that is done for him. Thank you.

My nan spent her last days at Hartcliffe Nursing Home. She was looked after so well, nothing was too much trouble. They looked after us too, always popping in and keeping us topped up with tea and sandwiches. A lovely home. I would recommend all day long.

My mum moved to Hartcliffe Nursing Home after a prolonged stay in hospital due to deterioration in health. Mum made great progress after moving into the care home, her spirit is incredibly raised and again, we see a smile on her face. Staff are being very supportive to both Mum and family and we can
just appraise their hard work and commitment given to us. We are very happy with the service that the home provides.

Brilliant and very attentive staff at Hartcliffe Nursing Home. My friend was being looked after by a lovely young lady, and she made sure everything was done - nothing was too much effort for her; she even made a lovely cupper and offered a range of biscuits and cake. Lovely place, and it’s made to
feel very homely and warm.

Found the level of basic care extremely poor and very disappointing resulting in removal and relocation to an alternative care home following 18 months of continued issues. We found lots of possessions were removed and not replaced or returned. Staff not attending pendant calls (3 times on 1 occasion)
not ideal for a resident at high risk of falling and limited mobility. Time-critical medication given late or just left on the table whilst residents are asleep. We found requests not being met and long periods of waiting when asking for help. Yesterday we arrived to find our relative soaked in urine and had been left in bed to have breakfast for 3 hours until we arrived at 10.15am. Very difficult organisation to deal with do not involve families with care details or updates (we found she had covid from someone visiting another resident). The senior management team is not proactive and seems to have very little interest in complaints. Withheld medication on departure resulting in further safeguarding issues.

There are no words I can use that would be good enough to describe this nursing home.
Choosing a nursing home for someone you love is such a huge decision, my only regret is that my Nan didn't go to Hartcliffe Nursing Home sooner! The staff go above and beyond all expectations. They treated my Nan
with such dignity and care which was really important to us, as my Nan had always been so independent.
The staff became like an extended family to us, they were kind, helpful, friendly and just amazing. After experiencing a nursing home before this one I can honestly say this one is just incredible.
The way we were treated when my Nan sadly passed made the painful experience so much more bearable and I will always be grateful for this.
I wouldn't hesitate to choose this place over and over. I could go on and on with nothing but praise.
Thank you all so much for everything you do, and did for us and all the other residents and families. I would recommend this home to anyone.
Reply from Sara Cryer, Home Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words. Staff at Hartcliffe pride ourselves on delivering personalised care tailored to each of our residents, so they can live as comfortably as they can and feel like at home and part of a family while they stay with us. We were deeply saddened by the loss of your loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.829)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.829) out of 10 for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.829 for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (217 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 251 Ratings = 4.829
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Chris Webb

Job Title: Hospitality Manager Joined: 2000

Chris was a part of Hartcliffe before it even opened! Having trained as a chef before becoming a hotel manager, Chris has worked in hospitality for over 40 years and helped shape the design of Hartcliffe. Originally from Wales, he still enjoys cooking and baking, as well as taking long walks and spending time with his beloved cat.

Chris said: “I can't believe it's been 25 years since I joined, especially as it was only meant to be a stopgap, as I had just moved to Bristol. To be honest, I got addicted to the job, the residents, their family members and the staff have kept me here. In all my 25 years I have worked here, I always work Christmas Day. For me it's important to spend such a special day with our residents, as for some it may be their last. It's by far the longest time I have spent in a job, and I am so happy I have spent it at MHA Hartcliffe.

"Working for an organisation like MHA, I do feel they appreciate all their staff members, and you are treated as a person and not a number. I know lots of people who work in care, but it's nothing like working for MHA. I'm at that stage in my life where If I want I can retire, but I enjoy my job so much that I can't even think about retiring or moving on. A lot of the staff joke and say that they will see me here as a resident one day!.”
