The care my aunt has received at this nursing home has been excellent. The staff are so friendly and always eager to help and sort out any problems that we may have. There is always a very good choice of food at mealtimes and plenty of varied activities going on for the residents to enjoy. All in all,
I cannot fault this care home. Excellent!

Absolutely excellent, could not have asked for better care. They not only looked after my dad with great care, but they also made sure my mum, who stayed with dad for two nights until he passed away, was ok and asked if she needed any food or drink. Excellent service, thank you.

Throughout my brother's stay at MHA our experience has been nothing but much greater than the best from personal hygiene, to friendship, food and overall care. Staff are fantastic, not only to residents but their families. Nothing is too much trouble for them. In fact, we believe they do far more than
their role of carers require and we would like to say a big thank you to all at MHS Hartcliffe. You are all wonderful.

I find that the home is run very well by competent management and staff. Everybody works well together as a team. They are all very friendly and go out of their way to help my mother. The quality of care is outstanding. The home is very clean and tidy and the food is of excellent quality. The home runs
daily entertainment and activities which my mother enjoys very much. My mother was very apprehensive about going into the home but has settled in quite easily.

My mum went in for respite after losing my Dad of 67 years. After 4 weeks respite, Mum wanted to stay permanently. During December, Mum became ill and was rushed to hospital. During this busy, sad time, everyone at the home was amazing. It's just like home.

Sadly Mum came back from hospital and a

few days later she passed away. Everyone was fantastic, not only looking after her but also us as a family.

My father was transferred from a nursing home in London to Hartcliff Nursing Home at the beginning of August. The home is very caring, the staff friendly and approachable and the open door policy means that management and staff are available to answer queries as they arise. My father has settled well
and as I visit him most days, I have first-hand experience of the good care he is receiving from everyone involved in his personal and nursing needs.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.829)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.829) out of 10 for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.829 for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (217 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 251 Ratings = 4.829
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartcliffe Nursing Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Hospitality Manager Joined: 2000

Chris was a part of Hartcliffe before it even opened! Having trained as a chef before becoming a hotel manager, Chris has worked in hospitality for over 40 years and helped shape the design of Hartcliffe. Originally from Wales, he still enjoys cooking and baking, as well as taking long walks and spending time with his beloved cat.

Chris said: “I can't believe it's been 25 years since I joined, especially as it was only meant to be a stopgap, as I had just moved to Bristol. To be honest, I got addicted to the job, the residents, their family members and the staff have kept me here. In all my 25 years I have worked here, I always work Christmas Day. For me it's important to spend such a special day with our residents, as for some it may be their last. It's by far the longest time I have spent in a job, and I am so happy I have spent it at MHA Hartcliffe.

"Working for an organisation like MHA, I do feel they appreciate all their staff members, and you are treated as a person and not a number. I know lots of people who work in care, but it's nothing like working for MHA. I'm at that stage in my life where If I want I can retire, but I enjoy my job so much that I can't even think about retiring or moving on. A lot of the staff joke and say that they will see me here as a resident one day!.”
