Winscombe Hall is a stunning Victorian Country Mansion House, nestling in the Mendip Hills amid an area of outstanding beauty, close to the Somerset levels and Cheddar. The Grade II listed building was built for the Reverend John Yatman and his family in 1836. The architects William Railton (designer of Nelson’s Column in London & Cardiff Castle) along with William Burgess (designer of fine art) were commissioned. The main house was completed in 1855, and remained as a family home for over 150 years until being converted to a care home in the last 15 years.

Cedars Care Group have tastefully updated this wonderful Victorian Mansion House whilst retaining and incorporating many of the original features, ensuring the buildings character is not spoiled and can be enjoyed by the residents.

Mum moved to Winscombe Hall in March 2021 and she was very happy there. Sadly Mum died in January 2023 but I cannot praise the staff enough for everything they did for her right until the very end. They took such good care of her and nothing was too much trouble. Mum had a really lovely room on the
first floor with an en-suite and dual-aspect windows overlooking the grounds. The grounds of Winscombe Hall are extensive and beautiful. When Mum first moved there we had to visit outside in a purpose-built hub due to Covid regulations and the visits were always very well managed. Three of Mum's 5 great-grandchildren were born during her time there and it was wonderful to be able to bring them to meet her not too long after their birth. I highly recommend Winscombe Hall to anyone who needs this level of care for a family member.

Mum had been in Winscombe since March 2021 and her care had been absolutely first-class. She was bedridden but she absolutely loved her room which she said was 'the best in the house'. There was genuine love for mum from the staff and they did everything to make sure she was comfortable. She, unfortunately,
deteriorated very quickly in early January so quickly that we didn't have time to say goodbye but the staff were fabulous sitting with her as she passed. They were kindness itself and many of them came to her room to express their sorrow and say goodbye. So thank you to all the staff for making mum's final months happy and comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone looking for first-class care for a relative.

My dad commenced his stay at Winscombe Hall in October 2020, the Covid era. The staff at Winscombe made him very welcome and I have fond memories of his smiling face at that time. Visiting during 2021 was intermittent due to Covid restrictions, but my step mum continued to visit as often as allowed.
The staff were always pleased to see her and she became part of the furniture, which was lovely. Latterly his health deteriorated and sadly we lost dad in November. The last month was heartbreaking but I cannot speak highly enough of all of the staff during that period. From the senior manager, deputy manager and wonderful nurses through to all of the brilliant carers he was looked after like a king. Nothing was too much trouble. So in addition to recommending Winscombe Hall for future residents, I would also like to place on record my family's heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all of the wonderful team. Thank you.

The staff are all first-class. So caring, polite, helpful and understanding of my mum's needs and requirements. First-class care is given and such a personal touch that shows it's not just a job to them, but they actually do care about the person they are looking after and can't fault them. The cleaning
staff do such a great job and not a smell in the home, unlike some where as soon as you walk in you smell urine, but not here, clean from the top to bottom. So fresh and friendly to walk into every visit with full marks. Every time I visit mum she is so happy and content as they give a personal response to each individual, reassuring that you know your loved one is in safe hands. Staff accommodate your personal visit either in the lounge, your own room or in the beautiful gardens. As I have cared for my mum, I know how difficult it is to do, but now with my dad on end-of-life with cancer, we can rest assured that mum is in the best place and all her needs and requirements are in place giving you peace of mind your loved ones are ok.

I was contacted by staff relating to concerns about my mother. All of the staff that I spoke to were very helpful and went to great pains to keep me fully updated. Although my mother had not been in the home long it was clear that they had a good understanding of her health, personality and needs. I
felt as though I was fully involved in the decisions made and the strategies that would be undertaken and that my mother's welfare was their prime concern.

Mum has been a resident at Winscombe Hall for over three years and has been well cared for all that time. She has a lovely spacious sunny room with views of the garden. The staff understand her well, despite her dementia. The new manager seems to be doing a very good job and I was pleased to be involved
with Mum's recent care plan.
It has been a very tough time during Covid for staff, residents and their families - especially when visits were either not allowed or very restricted and lines of communication were not always ideal during this time but seem to be improving now.
I would be happy to recommend Winscombe Hall to anyone.

Unfortunately not the best experience. My sister was here for her final stages of life, around 10 days they were not equipped or familiar with this. Although the staff did their best, lack of communication and my sister suffered massively at the end due to only one nurse who could administer drugs for
around 40 patients. I saw my sister suffer so much it was heartbreaking. The buzzer volume which alerted staff was turned off at the station so they did not hear when ringing for assistance, it was appalling! Did not think this could happen in this day and age, 8 months later I am still in shock this could happen.

My father was admitted to Winscombe Hall Care Centre after a difficult 6 months with hospital stays and community care. The manager and her team have been highly attentive to our needs, they are a credit to the industry. The manager's compassion, enthusiasm and positivity are catching and what love
she has for her job, a refreshing change from previous experiences. Thank you to all the staff who go above and beyond for Dad and we can, at last, have a peaceful sleep at night. Such happy souls in a stunning environment.

It is difficult to write an up to date review as I have not been inside the home since March 2020 because of covid but I feel happy that my mother is receiving a high level of both medical and personal care. Staff turnover seems to be high but my mother always says how kind and helpful all the staff
are. When I was allowed to visit I was very impressed with the activities laid on for the residents, including visiting performers, crafts, gardening etc. Unfortunately, these have been curtailed because of covid restrictions. In my experience, all of the staff, including management, are extremely caring and show genuine concern and affection for the residents. I very much look forward to being able to visit the home again and mingle normally with the residents and staff.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience of our Winscombe Hall Care Centre. Not being able to have the usual visiting arrangements for our residents was something that we did not take lightly and we understand how frustrating it was during the pandemic for our residents and their families. We are still following the Government guidelines during these final stages of restrictions, as the health and safety of our residents and team are paramount to us. Thank you for your support and understanding at this time and we look forward to being able to see you in our home, in an environment that enables the visiting of loved ones to be a much more interactive one than the past 19 months have allowed. My wonderful late husband stayed at this beautiful home recently. The care was outstanding. I spent some time with the clinical manager and her nursing team whilst he was very poorly and the new care manager, my apologies her name escapes me. All extremely caring and knowledgable. What would have normally
been a very distressing time for us all was made into a loving one by the staff. I would like to thank the clinical manager for giving me that extra time, I was such a mess, her empathy meant a lot to us all.

I only have one constructive criticism and that is the lady in the office is too quick on the phone and in person, sometimes we need more time as climbing those awful stairs at my age was a chore. Maybe the offices would be better suited where families and residents can access them.

I do talk to all my friends about the lovely experience we have had, thank you.

The care she received was excellent and she was reasonably content. Unfortunately, at that time, the only secure unit was that for dementia patients. Most of them more advanced than she was so she had only staff (who were very good) to mix and chat with.

I haven’t managed to visit the home as often as I like but recently went to visit my uncle who had a short stay at Winscombe Hall.
The location and building are beautiful, the staff made me feel extremely welcome (offering a drink) and were present within the Home.
His room was clean, it felt very
homely, warm and welcoming.
My uncle explained the activities that happen in the Home, which he is encouraged to join with (if he feels up to it) and the food he says is excellent as he gets a choice of what he would like to eat every day.
The care he receives from the staff is brilliant and my family are so thankful that we have a local place to help care for our family when we are in need.

During my late mother's time at Winscombe Hall she was treated with dignity and she was happy and comfortable. The staff were all very helpful and compassionate with all her care needs. If she had any problems it was always easy to talk with staff and the problem resolved. Mum loved the woodland view

All the staff worked so hard and with such goodwill and fun to make Christmas a memorable one for both residents and relatives. Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2019

I started my career training to be a beauty therapist, where I gained the highest
qualifications. I initially moved to domiciliary care because I wanted to work in a profession
where I could help people, which has always been a passion of mine. I have never looked
back and genuinely feel it has been my calling.
My journey at Winscombe Hall began in 2019, where I quickly proved my dedication and
work ethic. Within eight weeks, I progressed from a carer to a Floor Manager, a testament to
my commitment to providing excellent care and my ability to take on new challenges.
In 2021, I was offered the position of Deputy Manager, and I have enjoyed the challenge and
learning the more in-depth nuances of care.
At the end of 2024, when the Manager decided to move on to pastures new, I was offered
the position of Home Manager. It was my great pleasure to accept, as Winscombe Hall holds
a large space in my heart, and I have great pride in the home. I am proud to be part of the
Winscombe Hall family and share in its achievements.
As I look to the future, I am excited about the opportunities to further enhance Winscombe
Hall. I am committed to maintaining its current high standards and am eager to explore new
ways to improve and innovate, ensuring that it remains a fantastic home for all.

Job Title: Home Finance Administrator Joined: 2024

My career has always revolved around administration, but I only entered the care industry
when I moved to Weston in 2013. I love working in the care industry; even when you are
working in an office setting and not on the floor, it can still be so rewarding. I get to meet and
speak to the residents' families, from the first visit when they are viewing the home to an
ongoing point of contact throughout their journey, building positive relationships for all who
live and work here.
My journey with the Cedars Group began at Winscombe Hall in April 2024. The first time I
visited the home to meet the manager, I was immediately struck by the grandeur of the
country manor home. This unique setting is something I deeply appreciate and it's a privilege
to work in such a distinguished beautiful environment.
