My mum is 95 and has dementia, she suffered a stroke just after Xmas 2025.

That event spelt the end of the ability to maintain her independence. As her son, I felt guilt for not being able to look after her full time, concern at what to do next and a fear that I was solely responsible for her care.

We managed to secure a room at Deerhurst, so conveniently located at the top of mum's road. Since then I've been struck by the level of care, the efforts to create interest and enjoyment and the culture at Deerhurst.

My fear of the future has turned into huge relief and gratitude to many of the team, I didn't know existed a few months back, as they care for my precious mum SO well, and have become friends to me. The efforts they go to, to create quality of life for many in their care, involving travel, trips, entertainment, crafts, conversation and comfort has to be massively applauded.

Well done and thank you to Leslie and team at Deerhurst.

Thank you so much for that wonderful review - we try very hard to support the families as much as the resident as we recognise how tough that decision to find a care home is - it's a pleasure to care for your mum & the staff appreciate the lovely comments x

This is a review I meant to write a while ago. Dad has since passed but I needed to write this. Dad spent time at Deerhurst firstly on an ad-hoc basis for day care; to provide mum with much needed respite. When his health declined and after a few hospital stays we needed to find permanent care for him. Dad had always enjoyed his day visits and Deerhurst was our first choice for him. He moved in there in November 2025, and apart from a scare in December, he came on leaps and bounds. His physical health was quite poor but in the space of a few months he was walking with a walker, progressing to walking on his own. The care he received was just amazing and I never felt he was treated just as another patient. He enjoyed being there immensely and was always smiling and content. ALL of the staff are just fantastic and so caring. There were always activities that Dad could join if he wanted and was able to. It was such a relief to us all knowing he was so well cared for and happy.

An excellent care home. My sister-in-law is 93. And was worried about care. She is very happy joins in most activities (which she wouldn't have done at home)

The staff are excellent & she is really happy would recommend Deerhurst to anyone who needs care. The resident is Pat J.

I cannot fault any of the staff at Deerhurst, they are all amazing. They take time to engage with all the residents, & their families & there are always things going on to keep residents stimulated & happy. Residents' rooms are always kept spotlessly clean & they are a really good size. The activities & day trips are well thought out & organised.

My mum's care is of the highest standard. I honestly could not ask for anything more for her. I am reassured by the support, care and experience of all the staff. The team are managed brilliantly, and are a team to be proud of. I know my mum is safe at all times, and her best interests are at the forefront of all decisions made. This care home is a shining example of fabulous community care.

Deerhurst is a life saver. The staff are next level and it very much feels like a care home should, where our precious and most vulnerable relatives are looked after with personalized and tender respect and love. It feels like a family and I would be lost without the place and people.

My Dad previously attended Deershurst as a day care/ respite patient & when he later required full time care, we as a family were very pleased for him to return there, the staff are absolutely amazing & treat him & his specific needs with such care, compassion & empathy, it's so reassuring that he's being taken care off & stimulated so well, Deershurst came with a great reputation & I wouldn't hesitate recommending them to anyone looking for such professional & personal care for their loved ones.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. My mum went into Deerhurst Over 3 years ago with dementia. Lesley the manager is absolutely amazing along with her entire staff team. Nothing is too much for them. They have all got a great knowledge of dealing with dementia along with other issues. There is entertainment from within and from outside regularly. My mum has seen a multitude of different animals which have been brought into the home and have been encouraged to interact with the residents. They hold a weekly 'bring our babies' in for the residents and they love this time with the babies. They have their own transport for residents who are mobile and in wheelchairs and often go on visits to the zoo, lama farm, river boat trips and local parks to mention a few. I know some residents went to the theatre last week but my mum did not join in on that. I could list a multitude of great things about this care home and all the carers who work within but it would be never ending.

My sister has advanced dementia requiring total personal care. Staff alway treat her with respect and dignity. They are calm in approach which helps my sister feel safe and so calm herself allowing hands-on care. They work hard to engage her in the daily activities, so that she is busy and not bored. The photos and videos sent are a joy to see.

Deerhurst is an outstanding care home. The dignity and respect shown to every resident is exceptional - my husband moved here from another care home a year ago, and the difference between the two homes is unbelievable. At Deerhurst, every resident is immediately welcomed into the wider family, and is encouraged to take part in the many daily activities on offer. The home is full of music, laughter and love.
The manager and her team are remarkable - so well trained and professional that they make this level of care look easy! They take the time to really get to know and understand their residents so that they can adapt their approach and care plan to each individual.
Beyond that, the relatives are also treated as part of the family - welcomed by name, and invited to share in activities and mealtimes. The Carers Support Group brings relatives together to share concerns and to help each other through difficult times.

A remarkable place - we feel so blessed to be part of their family.

Excellent facilities and care
Only thing I would rate lower is food and never anyone in office on left as you come in so makes it less welcoming as always full of junk
Also needs a bit of an upgrade looks dated

But from the care side excellent and good activities and grounds to go out

When Mum moved to Deerhust, we were doubtful that she would see her next birthday as her physical and mental health had deteriorated so much. Almost exactly 5 years later, we can't believe how quickly she settled and how well she has been. It was hard for us to accept that we couldn't meet all her needs, but gradually we realised why our friend had recommended Deerhurst so highly, and are so glad Mum is here. The manager and staff are so efficient and use such effective approaches to meet everyone's needs (including families'). But most importantly they are caring, they laugh, dance and also sit quietly chatting, listening and understanding.

My mother arrived at Deerhurst in such poor physical and emotional condition after being physically and emotionally abused by carers at a large, big brand care home.
The carers at Deerhurst were horrified by her condition, swollen legs, cellulitis and wounds on her shins that had been ineffectively treated for quite some time.
My mother has dementia so the move was quite distressing for her but the staff at every level are so patient and kind that she settled in much more quickly than we anticipated (and has never been so moisturised in her life!).
She's been at Deerhurst now for two years and is content, there's so many things going on with themed weeks, incursions, excursions there's no time for boredom . The care Home staff are so committed and dedicated to the residents physically, emotionally as well enabling as much as possible my mother's sense of self and agency.

At Deerhurst respect is a guarantee not an added bonus. I'm delighted and relieved mums here.

This care home is just simply wonderful! The staff are all lovely, friendly and welcoming.
The care home itself has a warm cozy and relaxed feel. All the staff go above and beyond to make not just my father but every resident happy content and safe. There are activities every day, this is something that is very unique as we have had an experience before with a different care Home that my father was in. They have singers in, all different types of

entertainment. Art classes, cooking classes, lots of choices of board games and books from library. They have relaxation time, which is just lovely. Farm yard animals and even reptiles. The children from the local school write to the residents. The local church pop in and sometimes they have a sing song. The food and choices of food, it is in my eyes outstanding different choices of bread, lots of choices of breakfasts whatever drink that they would require Deerhurst has. Deerhurst always smells clean and everything is alway clean

My partner has been in Deerhurst care home for just over a year now. He is very settled there, he knows and likes all the staff and they all know him and his likes and dislikes, his needs and his medical issues. All the staff are unfailingly kind, considerate and very alert to the residents needs. I have observed on many occasions whilst visiting my partner how quickly the staff respond to any situations that might arise, usually defusing problems before they happen. It really is an excellent care home, I wouldn't want my loved one to be anywhere else.

Mum has been resident at Deerhurst for two and a half years now. She will not ask for the help she needs and when living on her own was making unsafe decisions. Staff respect her wish to remain as independent as possible whilst being very caring and mindful of the need to keep her safe. To achieve this they have made adjustments that suit Mum.

It is a huge relief to our family seeing Mum both content and so well cared for. There is such a variety of daily activities and outings, many of which Mum really enjoys. I have never encountered a staff member who was anything but kind, caring and cheerful. Internal communication is brilliant as is that with relatives. The leadership is excellent and it shows in every aspect of Deerhurst.

I can not praise Lesley and her team enough.

My husband has Huntingtons Disease, which he was diagnosed with on the 16th October 2007. It was devastating news as you can imagine but we grabbed life by the horns and travelled the world.

As Robins conditioned worsened he started having respite at Deerhurst then on 30th July 2020. Not being political, but that was the day the prime minister held his party in the middle of Covid when we were not mixing at all .

This meant I was unable to visit Robin for 3 months. However, i waved at him through thr front doot of home. Lesley contacted me immediately a room was available and he moved in full time.

Lesley and her team do not only care for Robin but me and my family, which is wonderful and I have made many new friends within the wider Brunelcare organisation.

They thoroughly deserved this recognition.

Many, many thanks

Heather
