Overall Experience
My mother went into Devonshire House for respite as I had hip surgery in October and became a permanent resident because I very quickly realised that the staff were able to do so much more for her dementia.
The staff are so very caring and, during these times of covid, are doing everything they can to make sure that I am not worrying about her.

I had my first window visit with her today and could see for myself how much the staff love her and care for her and for that I say a very big thank you.

Reply from Honor Keatley, Managing Director at Devonshire House and Devonshire Lodge Care Home

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I am so happy you have been able to have a window visit. It's so good for the team to know what a difference they make, not only to your mum but also in giving you that reassurance.

My mum went to Devonshire House in May 2020 during the testing and stressful lockdown time for families and staff. The team at Devonshire House have welcomed Mum with care and sensitivity during these difficult times. Mum appears to be settled and doing well in the home. The staff make the time to assist the family to do regular video chats with Mum, which we all know is so vital while we are all in lockdown. Thank goodness Devonshire House is a real home for Mum that seeks to look after her dementia needs. They are a credit to the care home system.

Mum has been at Devonshire House for two years and we have been very pleased with the levels of care and very impressed with the standards of cleanliness and individual attention. The staff are always kind, attentive and helpful and give mum the personal touch. Mum has very complex physical and mental difficulties and we feel that they not only understand her but go out of their way to accommodate her needs and make her everyday experience as positive as possible. We are so grateful for this care and just want to say a huge thank you to Rachel and the whole team at Devonshire.

My father has been in the nursing dementia part of Devonshire House since the beginning of 2020. Despite recent news about nursing homes and Covid 19, I actually feel so relieved that my father is now a resident at Devonshire rather than having care at home. The team are being so careful about hygiene, infection control and social distancing. It is much harder for nursing staff and activities coordinators with lockdown as the wide range of external activity providers are currently unable to come in. The staff are doing a wonderful job to provide a wide variety of interesting activities themselves. My father enjoys physical activities with balls, or games, such as dominoes, pamper sessions, ensure residents feel cared for, but also look smart with hair cut and nails manicured. We have just started group video calls and myself and my sisters can have a catch up with Dad and the staff, the social media pages also have exciting insights into residents days and the staff’s sense of fun.

Very friendly and welcoming environment. Carers and nurses are professional, patient and go 'above and beyond' to ensure care is individualised to meet Mum's needs; this even includes giving her the odd glass of wine in the evenings, which she thoroughly enjoys.

Residents are kept stimulated with singers/entertainment, and always appear happy; such a relief to know she is being so well cared for.

Just like to say my mum who’s a resident is being well looked after by the staff and one care lady, in particular, has kindly used her own mobile phone to allow me to video call my mum. A very kind caring lady, so thank you to her.

During this period of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is so reassuring to know that my stepfather is being so well cared for. I live over 320 miles away so the social media posts showing dad so well and happy have been great. I must say a specific thank you to the activities clearer for all of her hard work and especially for enabling video calls. To know dad is so well cared for removes anxieties for the family at this difficult time. Thank you to all the team.

A bright and cheerful welcome was how I remember my first day visiting the home to look around. We celebrated when a bed became available some weeks later. Without fail this is a great place with such caring people who do everything and more to ensure all are safe, well supported and cared for with dignity and respect. The whole home is full of smiles and laughter and within each section of the home, the care needs are met with compassion and understanding. We are so thankful our dad is there with you all and can’t thank you all enough for all you do each day with such energy and enthusiasm. Well done team Devonshire. Outstanding in every way, every day!

I can highly recommend this home. My mum has been here for nearly 2 years, it has been very hard as mum has Dementia. Mum was still aware of her surroundings when she went in and was very scared. The love and support from everyone there, when times are hard, they not only support mum but me as well. I know mum is safe, very well cared for, mum has been in a few homes, this is by far the best with just the nicest people who really do care. I can’t thank them enough for taking mum through each stage and comforting her, mum isn’t the easiest they are so patient. In this current situation they know it’s been hard but they kept her safe and busy and family involved. Thank you, everyone, at Devonshire.

My mother stayed here for 5 weeks after a bad fall at home. She settled in very well and we found all the staff to be very caring. Nothing seemed to be a problem with the care taken to make my mum feel at home. She very quickly made friends with other residents and would meet them for meals and activities. So from my sister and I a big thank you to all the nurses of all grades. And to maintenance guys for help with tv and lighting. And activities staff for all they put on mum enjoyed it. Cleaning staff too, the place is so clean. The meals there are fantastic all cooked fresh in open kitchens you can see into where again all the staff were friendly. The food is also grown in the gardens and stunning in summer I have heard but its Jan and cold. Even on leaving I was helped out by a member of staff with the heavy items. So a big thank you to all.

The staff at Devonshire House showed Dad the utmost care and love, you would not have imagined. From their sheer professionalism to the little things that make a difference, the care Dad received was first class and I write this review to counter the horror stories one hears about some nursing homes. I give the Devonshire top marks!

It was the first time taking the father in law to a group. As it was a lovely day, we went to the garden. It was great to listen to the short stories read by the carer/activity person but was even better to hear the memories of the residents in the group. There was plenty of smiles and laughter which was great to see. The group leader engaged the whole group well.

My mum was put into Devonshire House after a series of hospital visits lasting from 1 week to 5 weeks. She is being cared for in the best way. Her health has improved due to staff ensuring she is eating and drinking well and her meds are being taken care of. Also, the extra bits of care as social interaction are taken care of.
