Dad is very happy at Devonshire House. He is recovering well with all the good care he is receiving. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Dad doesn't like joining in with the other residents, but the staff are never too busy to stop and have a chat.

My aunt was brought directly from the hospital to Devonshire House rather late in the day due to transport difficulties from the hospital. We arrived shortly after her to ensure she settled in - we needn't have worried! The staff could not have done more for her, despite the late hour. She was comfortable in bed, had a snack/tea, and her possessions were being inventoried and put away. We visited with my aunt, and she said it was the best care she had received. My impression of her first month, care was provided, top-notch and excellent communication.

My partner has only been at the home for a couple of days but has found everyone very helpful and attentive. His meals have been very nice, the activities in the garden in this lovely weather have been great.

Wonderful grounds for visitors to sit with him.

Purpose-built facility with good space control and stimulating fittings. Garden excellent, stimulating space and very well maintained. High cleanliness standards and care of a very high level - staff pleasant, caring and hardworking. Management is open and responsive with good leadership skills and good relationships with both staff and residents. Entertainment/stimulation is excellent. Catering of consistently high level, good range of food, well cooked/presented.

My mum went to the Devonshire House Care Home for post-op respite care for approximately 3 weeks. This was the best decision we made for Mum as a family. The care she received from the moment she arrived to the time I took her back home was amazing. We were greeted on arrival by the care team who went above and beyond to ensure Mum was settled in her room and she was immediately offered refreshments and time to get settled, followed by a full induction of the care setting, which was a real home-from-home. The staff were attentive, caring, supportive and very kind. The home was spotless and beautifully decorated with a calm homely feel and we could not have wished for better care and support for Mum during this challenging and difficult time for her. I cannot thank the staff at Devonshire highly enough for all the care and support they gave to Mum and the reassurance they offered to me. It gave Mum the security and confidence to adjust from her operation - thank you.

Overall Experience

My father, who has advanced dementia and complex health needs, has been a resident at Devonshire House since August. The staff have worked hard to improve his quality of life by overcoming his fear of hoisting. On arrival he was bed-bound but through their perseverance, he is now out of bed daily, mixing with other residents and able to feed himself. Staff work incredibly hard but are unfailingly kind and helpful to residents. They are pleasant to deal with and respond quickly and efficiently to any queries or requests. This is a well-run home and I'm very happy that Dad was able to move here.

Overall Experience
I've only been into the home twice since March due to Covid restrictions so marking the home was difficult.
Since early last year, I've only been able to visit "in person" 4 times. The last two visits have been with us opposite sides of a full-height plastic screen.
The 1st visit of this type was not good as we couldn't hear each other, the 2nd was better as the home had purchased a 2-way baby monitor but it was still not a good experience.
One of the activities ladies has kept us in touch by using her own phone to enable us to use WhatsApp, but I long for the day I am able to visit in person and be in the same room together which, and rightly so, I'm unable to do now.
Government propaganda showing people visiting their relatives in person in care homes is cruel and thoughtless when the reality is that it is NOT possible and is unlikely to be for some time yet.

The care home is doing a good job of keeping residents alive but the situation is taking its toll mentally on residents and relatives.

Reply from Honor Keatley, Managing Director at Devonshire House and Devonshire Lodge Care Home

Thank you very much for your feedback. We completely understand what a difficult situation this is for our residents and also their loved ones as many of us are also experiencing the same thing first hand. I will ask the home to review how the monitor is working or if there is something else we...

Conservatory visit with my dad today through glass screen. They were ready when I arrived went to fetch dad. Comfortable and warm conservatory. Dad always confused but glad to see me. (Only seen three times since March 2020). Upset when leaving but hopefully this time will be back in two weeks. Would like to do test so I can hold his hand soon.
