Arrived after a long period in hospital for a recovery period. Immediately welcomed by friendly, caring staff who have always provided for my needs with courtesy, care, and friendliness. It has given me a place of security and calm to cope with my unsettled health.

I've only been into the home twice since March due to Covid restrictions so marking the home was difficult.
Since early last year, I've only been able to visit "in person" 4 times. The last two visits have been with us opposite sides of a full-height plastic screen.
The 1st visit of this type was
not good as we couldn't hear each other, the 2nd was better as the home had purchased a 2-way baby monitor but it was still not a good experience.
One of the activities ladies has kept us in touch by using her own phone to enable us to use WhatsApp, but I long for the day I am able to visit in person and be in the same room together which, and rightly so, I'm unable to do now.
Government propaganda showing people visiting their relatives in person in care homes is cruel and thoughtless when the reality is that it is NOT possible and is unlikely to be for some time yet.
The care home is doing a good job of keeping residents alive but the situation is taking its toll mentally on residents and relatives.
Reply from Honor Keatley, Managing Director at Devonshire House and Devonshire Lodge Care HomeThank you very much for your feedback. We completely understand what a difficult situation this is for our residents and also their loved ones as many of us are also experiencing the same thing first hand. I will ask the home to review how the monitor is working or if there is something else we could put in, in its place. Nothing is as good as being able to hug your loved one but we must follow National and Local Government guidance in order to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Conservatory visit with my dad today through glass screen. They were ready when I arrived went to fetch dad. Comfortable and warm conservatory. Dad always confused but glad to see me. (Only seen three times since March 2020). Upset when leaving but hopefully this time will be back in two weeks. Would
like to do test so I can hold his hand soon.

My mother went into Devonshire House for respite as I had hip surgery in October and became a permanent resident because I very quickly realised that the staff were able to do so much more for her dementia.
The staff are so very caring and, during these times of covid, are doing everything they can
to make sure that I am not worrying about her.
I had my first window visit with her today and could see for myself how much the staff love her and care for her and for that I say a very big thank you.

My mum went to Devonshire House in May 2020 during the testing and stressful lockdown time for families and staff. The team at Devonshire House have welcomed Mum with care and sensitivity during these difficult times. Mum appears to be settled and doing well in the home. The staff make the time to assist
the family to do regular video chats with Mum, which we all know is so vital while we are all in lockdown. Thank goodness Devonshire House is a real home for Mum that seeks to look after her dementia needs. They are a credit to the care home system.

Mum has been at Devonshire House for two years and we have been very pleased with the levels of care and very impressed with the standards of cleanliness and individual attention. The staff are always kind, attentive and helpful and give mum the personal touch. Mum has very complex physical and mental
difficulties and we feel that they not only understand her but go out of their way to accommodate her needs and make her everyday experience as positive as possible. We are so grateful for this care and just want to say a huge thank you to Rachel and the whole team at Devonshire.

My father has been in the nursing dementia part of Devonshire House since the beginning of 2020. Despite recent news about nursing homes and Covid 19, I actually feel so relieved that my father is now a resident at Devonshire rather than having care at home. The team are being so careful about hygiene,
infection control and social distancing. It is much harder for nursing staff and activities coordinators with lockdown as the wide range of external activity providers are currently unable to come in. The staff are doing a wonderful job to provide a wide variety of interesting activities themselves. My father enjoys physical activities with balls, or games, such as dominoes, pamper sessions, ensure residents feel cared for, but also look smart with hair cut and nails manicured. We have just started group video calls and myself and my sisters can have a catch up with Dad and the staff, the social media pages also have exciting insights into residents days and the staff’s sense of fun.
Reply from Honor Keatley, Managing Director at Devonshire House and Devonshire Lodge Care HomeWhat a lovely review - thank you. We are so grateful for the technology that enables residents and their loved ones to stay in touch. Thank you also for acknowledging what a great job the team are doing.

Very friendly and welcoming environment. Carers and nurses are professional, patient and go 'above and beyond' to ensure care is individualised to meet Mum's needs; this even includes giving her the odd glass of wine in the evenings, which she thoroughly enjoys.
Residents are kept stimulated with
singers/entertainment, and always appear happy; such a relief to know she is being so well cared for.

During this period of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is so reassuring to know that my stepfather is being so well cared for. I live over 320 miles away so the social media posts showing dad so well and happy have been great. I must say a specific thank you to the activities clearer for all of her hard
work and especially for enabling video calls. To know dad is so well cared for removes anxieties for the family at this difficult time. Thank you to all the team.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.665)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.665) out of 10 for Devonshire House and Devonshire Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.665 for Devonshire House and Devonshire Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (236 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 316 Ratings = 4.665
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Devonshire House and Devonshire Lodge Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 77 registered maximum number of service users is 15.4, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
