The Drake Unit at Chollacott House opened in January 2012 and offers full time and respite care and full assessment to persons affected by Neurological Conditions. The caregivers at Chollacott House Nursing Home & Drake Unit appear to be very thoughtful and attentive to the residents. The manager has always been extremely accommodating in coordinating visits, given our limited time and Covid. One member of staff is always a joy to see and is full of energy which
I think greatly benefits the environment in which the residents live. Another member of staff has been a great and important friendly face for my grandad. You can tell that he truly cares and goes the extra mile to engage, make connections with and really get to know the residents on a more personal level.

The residents experience all local and national events without exception. The home recently marked the passing of the Queen extremely sympathetically and even treated residents to candy floss when the fair came to town. The residents are at the heart of their decisions and this is hugely appreciated

The manager and staff have taken us out and to home on a few occasions. They do so whenever we request it and always provide the time we want. Nothing is too much trouble, and they make us very comfortable. They are extremely friendly, courteous and kind.
Punctuality is "spot on".

Before my aunt need to be in care, she was an incredibly house-proud lady and I do feel that her room could be left tidier after the personal care routines have been finished and that the pillows on her bed should be replaced more often, as being washed so often breaks down the stuffing and leaves them
lumpy.
In general, I think my aunt is safe has good personal care and is looked after well.
However, when I showed the review form to her in regard to the question "treated with dignity" she said she would score this as very unsatisfactory. She said a couple of the carers are "very push and pull" when dealing with her personal care.

I am overall very satisfied with the care given to my nan. I can not complain about anything being under satisfactory if I ask for something on my nan's behalf it is promptly addressed and help provided. Have been allowed to decorate and personalise my nan's room to make it her own, she's given 3 good
meals a day and always has company around. All the staff are very friendly. No concerns.

My mother-in-law has been at Chollacott House Nursing Home for over two years. She is happy there and enjoys chatting with the staff. She was able to bring some of her own furniture with her and she has plenty of storage space for clothes, etc and an en-suite toilet. Her room is kept very clean. She
enjoys the food, especially lunch and the afternoon tea and cake. Because of her memory loss and confusion, she has never mastered how to use the call button system so she relies on the staff to check on her frequently, which they do. I was impressed with how quickly a new visiting suite was built with a glass partition to enable safe visiting during Covid-19. Pre-lockdown she enjoyed minibus trips and loved the hairdresser coming every week, although she has said she would like more activities. There is always a nurse on duty so her medical needs are well met and they are very quick to get the doctor in if she has symptoms of illness and to keep me informed. I feel she is safe and well cared for.

My uncle appears content in Chollacott. When I have spoken to him, he always comments on how nice and helpful all the staff are. He says he enjoys the meals and always has plenty of snacks to have. he tells me that he likes joining in with activities. When I call the home the staff are all friendly
and keep me updated with hos my Uncle is.

Mum spent the last two years and four months at Chollacott. They are very precious memories for me and my family. Any time I had issues or concerns they were addressed. The last week of mum's life we were with mum day and night. The staff were amazing and allowed mum to pass away with dignity. Nothing

My husband has received top service and attention at this home since he was admitted in September 2018. The staff are friendly and helpful in all they do to make life easier for him. His main aim is to return home and will be sorry to leave Chollacott, but at the moment is content to use this home as
rehabilitation and one step to complete recovery.

My mum is very happy here, she has been made to feel very welcome.
The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble, I have not seen my mum look as well as she does now and I think this is down to a nice comfortable environment, a good diet, good activities and most of all, good care.
The only
fault I can find is the laundry system - clothes, underwear going missing even though clearly marked with her name and this upsets my mum, but staff are very apologetic and ensure some are found.

From day one, we were treated in a really homely way, all the staff were friendly and very helpful. The management team, including the nursing team, were always helpful and willing to discuss situations with you.
The only problem I found were times that my wife would press her bell for attention, there
were times of delay. These happened when they had staff shortages and at busy times of the day. Overall, the home was very good.
