Chollacott House Nursing Home & Drake Unit is situated close to the centre of Tavistock and is set in its own grounds. The home offers full nursing care in an attractive period property that has been very well re-created, with purpose-built facilities. Day Service facilities are also provided, including "lunch club". The property is convenient for local amenities. Chollacot House provides a very desirable lifestyle encompassing care, with an emphasis on person-centred attention and that 'family-home' feel. The Drake Unit at Chollacott House opened in January 2012 and offers full time and respite care and full assessment to persons affected by Neurological Conditions. It became necessary 30 months ago for a close personal friend to enter Chollacott House Nursing Home for full-time care, a place where they have received good care, helping with the many changing challenges in life they now have.
Staff always appear happy and bright when spoken to either by myself
or a friend.
Meals are very much enjoyed, especially cake with afternoon tea.
Their room has always been clean and tidy.

During my 2 week visit to the UK to visit my blind 103 year old father, he was taken ill and the doctor was called in. The care, attention and love he received was just wonderful and the doctor's visit was prompt, respectful, professional and gentle. The day to day care is always loving and wonderful
which is a huge comfort for someone who lives abroad. I am hugely impressed with the wonderful team who look after him day and night.

We arrived to see my mum at approximately 11 o'clock in the morning she had her personal care done and was being helped into the conservatory. There was a drink on hand for her at her table. The staff were cheerful and friendly. The nurse care to see my mum and was able to answer my questions relating
to an ongoing problem. It was a nice day so we took mum out into the garden and the staff said if we needed help just to ask but we didn't need any. At the end of the visit, we took mum back into the conservatory again the staff were there if we needed help. We left about 12:30 when it was mum's lunchtime. Whilst outside mum was brought a drink by a member of staff.

My husband was at the home on respite, he was very upset as it was his first time away.He said the staff were very caring and helpful. He was not showered as I had asked for every day however when I mentioned this he was then showered every day. I felt there needed to be more staff.

Good afternoon. Many thanks for taking the time to write and submit this feedback following your husband's respite stay with us at Chollacott House. It's great to hear that the care team were caring and helpful. Sorry to hear that you had to remind the care team that you had requested daily showers. With regards to the feeling that more staff were needed - our care home managers have full autonomy over staffing and ensure that we have the right number of staff on duty at any time in order to meet the care needs of the residents in the home. It's always possible to have 'more staff' but this does mean we have to increase our care fees, where fee payers are happy to pay more we are able to put more staff on the rota. This can all be discussed as a part of individual care packages with the care home manager.

The majority of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Although my father's behaviour and language is quite bad at times due to his dementia, the staff are very patient ans seem to be genuinely fond of him which is very reassuring for us. Some improvements have been made with new furniture etc and
it's good to know investment is being made to keep this place homely and in good condition.

Mum says care here is mostly good. "It never drops to poor but sometimes drops to satisfactory". "I enjoy the food but I don't want too much". We find the care mum receives consistently good, the carers patient and attentive. The extra activities have provided an extra interest and involvement to the

Since my mother has been a resident, she has been very happy. All the staff are kind and helpful, not only to my mum, but to me. Also the room is clean and tidy and the food is delicious. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, always happy. I have no concerns.

I am a 45 year old disabled lady. I have very complex care meaning I need 24 hour care. The Drake Unit facilitates me getting the care I need, so that the care is tailored to my needs. The medication, food and personal needs are arranged with you so you have choice over your personal care and attention
to make you feel like home but it also gives you some control in a setting through ill health etc which can feel vulnerable. I have been allowed to decorate my room to my taste and I have been allowed to have a puppy to keep me active and having company along with unconditional love. The gardens and views are beautiful. For me it feels like the staff are friends they also do something that is really important to me they anticipate your needs this shows they are no just doing a job. I am really happy here.

Chollacott House is a lovely nursing home. They looked after dad really well, taking all the time they needed to ensure his needs were met. Nothing was too much trouble, very committed management and staff. I would really recommend this nursing home.
