With an excellent reputation for the high standard of care, the long-serving team at Furzehatt are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents. Providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, they also offer respite care breaks.

There are so many activities to enjoy, from baking, yoga, animal therapy and music sessions, to gardening, indoor bowls, church services, games, a book club and crafts.

The community is embraced into life in the home, with regular volunteers enjoying activities too, as well as local school children and college students. The home also has a piano for music sessions.

This summer the team completely revamped the gardens ‘Ground Force’ style! The makeover looks beautiful, with two water features, a tortoise garden, home to Malcolm and Murtle and a new herb and vegetable garden.   

The residents have enjoyed growing their own herbs and vegetables, which the chef used in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement.

And the home-cooked cuisine is a real highlight, with everything from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays, and home-baking for afternoon tea.

The team champion their residents to have a very active role to play in how their home is run. There are resident ambassadors, who do everything from interviewing potential staff, to showing new residents and their loved ones around their home.

There are so many homely spaces to relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time, from welcoming lounges and quiet spaces, to a conservatory overlooking the gardens. There is also a hair salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser. And a chiropodist also visits monthly.

Furzehatt also has a private family and friends Facebook page, with regular photos, videos and updates on what the residents have been enjoying doing.

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed. Our 2025 weekly care fees for residential care start from £1125 and for nursing care £1337, but may be in the region of 30% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options.

The care that my mother receives continues to be excellent, despite her increasing disability. The staff, all of them, are incredibly caring and patient, even when under severe pressure. I visit the home most days and have never heard any of the staff lose their temper or complain to the residents.
The food at Furzehatt is also of high quality and activities and concerts for the residents are provided on a regular basis.

My wife suffers from Alzheimer's and cannot now do anything at all. She has to be washed and fed, cannot talk or communicate and is incontinent.
From the manager down everybody makes the effort to talk to her and shows her different things which makes her laugh and giggle all day long. The entertainment
lady really goes the extra mile to involve her in all of the activities. All of this makes me very satisfied!!

The care of residents here is clear to see. The staff go above and beyond and for that, we as a family are so grateful. It's an extremely difficult decision to admit a loved one into any kind of care but we sleep well knowing dad is getting the very best of care and kindness.

Dad settled into Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home very quickly as he was allowed to bring furniture from home and the colour scheme is his choice. The rooms are generously proportioned. The daily food menus are very useful. Although dad is not able to join in the activities there seems to be enough
going on. The staff are very friendly and work very hard. There is a beautiful secluded garden for residents to enjoy and the home welcomes pets which help pass the time and always raises smiles from everyone. There are regular residents meetings which welcome family members to participate.

My experience of 8 years of visiting this home was always one of welcome but all staff. Questions were always answered readily.

From the time my father went into Furzehatt, he has been treated with brilliant care and dignity. The staff know each resident well, the likes and dislikes and treat them accordingly. Each staff member knows their role but will, when necessary cover any task needed. The manager's door is always open
and she is always prepared to listen. The food is prepared beautifully by fully trained chefs and presented well. Overall I am very pleased with the choice of Furzehatt for my very elderly father's care.

My father was here for four months until he passed away and he had the best possible care. The Nursing Home is light and airy and very modern but homely, the staff are absolutely wonderful and so caring. The standard of care is second to none, my father was always washed, shaved and wearing clean
clothes every day, the food is superb and beautifully presented and there is always something going on e.g entertainment and activities. There is a resident dog, cat and budgies and the staff are familiar with each resident. As my father came to the end he was treated with tremendous dignity and respect and the very capable and well-trained Nurses were just so gentle with him treating him as they would if he were their own father. I cannot praise this place highly enough, it is well managed and the staff are well trained and professional and extremely efficient.

Really can't praise the staff enough for the care and kindness shown to my wife in her last days of dementia. She was only at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home a short period but she was well looked after each day. The staff were fantastic with the family on the days leading up to her passing,
we were given tea and sandwiches to see us through the night. I cannot thank them enough, great care and compassion shown to my wife.

I had to go with my husband to Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home as a medical crisis and was dreading it, but I was amazed on arrival to be welcomed by three staff members, welcoming us and immediately putting us at ease. Their care, sensitivity was amazing for the week my husband survived he was
cared for in every way and our family were reassured and made welcome at every visit. It was wonderful to have my husband's last hours together in such a caring place. Staff sensitivity provided us with drinks, sandwiches or a meal without being asked, if my husband had lived longer we would have been thankful he was in Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home

All the staff that I met over the 5 weeks she was in the home, were most kind and considerate tot he patient and to all the family members who attended visits, we were always greeted with an update on her condition and asked if we would like a refreshment. I cannot speak more highly of the attention

very impressed by the home where my sister has been for five years. The staff are friendly and helpful. I spoke to the nurse about my sisters long term care and was given a full and honest account. I have come along way to see her (from Norwich to Plymouth) and very reassured by the care.
