With an excellent reputation for the high standard of care, the long-serving team at Furzehatt are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents. Providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, they also offer respite care breaks.

There are so many activities to enjoy, from baking, yoga, animal therapy and music sessions, to gardening, indoor bowls, church services, games, a book club and crafts.

The community is embraced into life in the home, with regular volunteers enjoying activities too, as well as local school children and college students. The home also has a piano for music sessions.

This summer the team completely revamped the gardens ‘Ground Force’ style! The makeover looks beautiful, with two water features, a tortoise garden, home to Malcolm and Murtle and a new herb and vegetable garden.

The residents have enjoyed growing their own herbs and vegetables, which the chef used in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement.

And the home-cooked cuisine is a real highlight, with everything from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays, and home-baking for afternoon tea.

The team champion their residents to have a very active role to play in how their home is run. There are resident ambassadors, who do everything from interviewing potential staff, to showing new residents and their loved ones around their home.

There are so many homely spaces to relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time, from welcoming lounges and quiet spaces, to a conservatory overlooking the gardens. There is also a hair salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser. And a chiropodist also visits monthly.

Furzehatt also has a private family and friends Facebook page, with regular photos, videos and updates on what the residents have been enjoying doing.

The staff have gone above and beyond to organise a family get together, providing a private area where Frank could spend some quality time with his family. The staff always have a smile for all the residents, and organise lots of activities for them. Lovely!

Mum continues to be car e d for with compassion and respect. The cleaner just popped in to do an afternoon clean, and table wipe down. She came quietly into the room, said hello to Mum and asked if it would be okay for her to vacuum and wipe down the services. This demonstrates such respect for Mum
as an individual, even when asked to look out for the crumbs under the bed, " that I've put down for the birds" . Reassurance that she would and not to worry ill sort it.
This is just one snippet of the care that Mum receives, she varies in her understanding of what is happening from day- to- day. Sometimes actively disengaging from care. All of this is taken with calm respect.
The Furzehatt Team are great, keep doing what you are doing, you are five star!

I cannot praise all the staff at Furzehatt enough for making the care home such a caring, friendly and sociable place to live. It makes me very happy knowing my friend is now living in such a wonderful environment and being cared for. The team at Furzehatt organise lovely activities for the residents
especially now leading up to Christmas. My friend has always been very sociable and therefore is enjoying all the activities that Furzehatt arrange. They are also very friendly towards residents friends and family and actively invite them to all their social events. Thankyou Furzehatt.

My husband has been a resident at Furzehatt for the last 19 mths and I can honestly say that the care he has received has been amazing from the Chef, the activities co-ordinator to the domestics and the wonderful care staff ,they have all been very kind and considerate ,the nurses that are on duty on
a day to day basis are compassionate and extremely professional. the Deputy Manager has the welfare of the residents first and foremost and any problems are dealt with promptly ,she is always available should you need to discuss anything that is of concern to you. There will always be times when things sometimes go wrong but in my experience these thing are dealt with promptly and in a professional manner , I cannot speak for everyone in the home but the families that I have spoken to are very happy with the care that they receive .We have some really happy times and I would happily recommend this home to anyone

My friend came to Furzehatt Nursing Home in January 2025. She was in a very frail state, confused, weighed 6 stone and could not walk unaided. Within 5 months, she was able to walk on her own and had gained a stone in weight. All down to the nursing staff.
Everyone was very kind.
My one complaint
would be the laundry. Although everything was clean, not all of my friend's clothes were returned to her room.
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing HomeThank you so much for sharing your friend's journey with us. It's truly heartening to hear how much progress she's made with the support of our dedicated team. We're saddened to hear about the issue with laundry and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Feedback like this helps us continue to improve every aspect of our care.

Nice veneer, but underneath there are, in my experience, fundamental issues of concern. Observed one staff member bully and chide a resident for their disability. The same staff member (right in front of me) also completely dismissed requests for advice and assistance from two carers trying to assist
my loved one in a manner which was both completely unprofessional and bordering on spiteful in my view. Some really good staff there, however, but sadly a lot seem to have moved on in recent times for reasons that I cannot share in order to respect their privacy. Whilst food and drink is available all day, main meals seem often not to be suited to the resident's dietary needs and eating capabilities. Care equipment found to be left blocking/impeding access routes that pose fall/trip hazards that even when pointed out kept happening. So much more, too. Good at presentation, actual content (care) less so. The resident cat is ace, though.
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're saddened to hear that aspects of your visit left you feeling concerned. We're committed to providing compassionate, respectful care and take all feedback seriously. It's reassuring to hear you found some of our team members to be excellent, and we're glad the resident cat brought some joy. Your comments will be shared with our team so we can reflect and continue working to enrich the lives of those we care for.

I'll start with some positive feedback. Some staff- caring and kind. Some good activities.
Many staff appeared not to want to be there. Poor attitude.
If your loved one is on the residential side, you may find this home acceptable. If on the nursing side, possibly not.
If activities are top of your
list, you may love it here, but if you want expert, kind nursing care, this home may not meet expectations.
Our experience of the some of the nursing care was severely lacking. Certain staff rude, dismissive, unprofessional and bordering on cruel, from what we experienced. We left because of this lack of proper nursing care.
Issues raised with management were not taken seriously.
Now we have found a home that provides exemplary care, we can make a comparison and realise how poor it was at Furzehatt. In our experience.
If you end up placing a loved one here, pay close attention. All is not as it seems. In our experience.
Reply from Fae Doherty, Senior Marketing Officer at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing HomeWe're truly saddened to read this review for our home and that you felt your experience did not meet the high standards of care and compassion we are proud to provide every day.

We're proud of the kindness and dedication shown by many of our team members, and we're pleased you found some of the activities beneficial. However, we're naturally disappointed to read your comments about aspects of our nursing care and team.

All the staff are friendly & helpful. The smell is pretty strong at times upstairs. The food needs to be catered for elderly people - not pizza and beans or salads, most can't eat it, old-fashioned cottage pie, onions, fish pie, etc, 1970's food and cups of tea and coffee throughout the day whenever
they want one. Let people know who's working the shift, and give a menu on a regular basis to those who can't get downstairs; also, sometimes they just want a little bit of company.

Mum has been a resident at Furzehatt for 16 months. From the day mum arrived, she & my brother & sister have been treated with the utmost respect. Mum is very happy and always speaks highly of all the staff. In her words, "can't fault the place". As a family, we are extremely grateful for the care provided
to Mum. Nothing is too much trouble. Mum is now safe and well nourished, and that means a lot to me. The staff are great and all of them should be recognised for their fantastic work. Thank you.

My mum's time at Furzehatt care home, was like home from home with the added bonus of beautiful cooked meals 3 times a day, daily activities, weekly church services and much more.
That is before I begin on to the care and nursing team at Furzehatt, especially in the last two weeks before our mum passed
away. Mum was treated with the upmost dignity and compassion and the staff go up and beyond their job description in the care they all showed to our mum. This also went to us the family they looked after us so well too. If anyone is looking for care for a loved one, I couldn't recommend Furzehatt more. The cleaning team kept all the rooms immaculate along with all the communal lounges and dining rooms.
Thank you doesn't express enough what we feel for The Furzehatt team, from Management to all the carers, nurses, housekeeping, chefs and the wonderful reception team that always make you feel so welcome. Keep up the good work and be proud of your team.

Furzehatt is above all a Care Home. The team of staff from cleaners to admin, carers and management are outstanding in the level of care provided. Mum is currently end of life and the team have been amazing in terms of respect, kindness, support, caring - even coming in on days off and holidays to visit
Mum and support the family. Mum has previously commented on the kindness of the staff and we couldn't have asked for more during Mum's final months.

My Mum resided in the nursing side of Furzehatt for approximately 3 years prior to then she had resided in 2 other residential care homes. The Registered Nursing staff are some of the most excellent Nurses I have had the privilege to meet they always ensured My mother's Medical needs were addressed.
They always respected my concerns and included me in decision making.
Mum had end stage Alzheimer's the time she was admitted to Furzehatt carers ensued she was treated with dignity and respect they excepted me as Mums advocate checking in with me ensuring her care needs were being met. After having not good experiences in other residential homes the day we brought Mum into Furzehatt my sister and I felt she had come home. Mum was settled in to a bright sunny room given a lovely lunch and the smile across her face was priceless a smile we had not seen in along time. Mum passed in Furzehatt March 2025 after being poorly for approximately 8 weeks the staff couldn't have been more attentive.

Mum was transferred to Furzehatt nursing home just before Christmas 2024. She settled in well and was comfortable there. We were called up to Furzehatt home early hours in the morning in the new year, when the on duty nurse noticed mum's condition had changed. Although night time, all staff kept checking
on mum plus making sure we were all okay. When mum passed away they treated her with dignity and respect. The nurse was excellent and helped us through a very sad time and in a gentle way explained next steps. Although mum was there for a short time, we were very impressed with her care and all of the staff.

My wife has been here for the past eight years and I have visited every day even through Covid. I came and spoke through the windows and luckily she was on the ground floor. I have to say that visiting every day I have experienced a lot of staff turnover. With our new management team now, I think every
day is very enjoyable as I have never heard so much laughter and singing. Everyone is very competent in what they do. Well done all and thank you.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
