Furzehatt is above all a Care Home. The team of staff from cleaners to admin, carers and management are outstanding in the level of care provided. Mum is currently end of life and the team have been amazing in terms of respect, kindness, support, caring - even coming in on days off and holidays to visit Mum and support the family. Mum has previously commented on the kindness of the staff and we couldn't have asked for more during Mum's final months.

Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home

My Mum resided in the nursing side of Furzehatt for approximately 3 years prior to then she had resided in 2 other residential care homes. The Registered Nursing staff are some of the most excellent Nurses I have had the privilege to meet they always ensured My mother's Medical needs were addressed. They always respected my concerns and included me in decision making.

Mum had end stage Alzheimer's the time she was admitted to Furzehatt carers ensued she was treated with dignity and respect they excepted me as Mums advocate checking in with me ensuring her care needs were being met. After having not good experiences in other residential homes the day we brought Mum into Furzehatt my sister and I felt she had come home. Mum was settled in to a bright sunny room given a lovely lunch and the smile across her face was priceless a smile we had not seen in along time. Mum passed in Furzehatt March 2025 after being poorly for approximately 8 weeks the staff couldn't have been more attentive.

Mum was transferred to Furzehatt nursing home just before Christmas 2024. She settled in well and was comfortable there. We were called up to Furzehatt home early hours in the morning in the new year, when the on duty nurse noticed mum's condition had changed. Although night time, all staff kept checking on mum plus making sure we were all okay. When mum passed away they treated her with dignity and respect. The nurse was excellent and helped us through a very sad time and in a gentle way explained next steps. Although mum was there for a short time, we were very impressed with her care and all of the staff.

My wife has been here for the past eight years and I have visited every day even through Covid. I came and spoke through the windows and luckily she was on the ground floor. I have to say that visiting every day I have experienced a lot of staff turnover. With our new management team now, I think every day is very enjoyable as I have never heard so much laughter and singing. Everyone is very competent in what they do. Well done all and thank you.

Our overall view of the home is excellent. The staff are very obliging. We realise that we are not supported to name people but here are a couple of employees who go above and beyond their job descriptions and did a great job with the planting etc. The food is of good quality and plentiful. There is always a good selection available.

This is not necessarily a complaint but more an observation and a suggestion. At the inner front door to open, some people have to wait up to 15 minutes for the door to be opened. Surely it should be possible to put a push button keypad on the outside lobby door and enter a code to open the door from the outside, the same as the inside.

Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home

Thank you for your high-scoring review for Furzehatt. We appreciate there can occasionally be a wait at the weekends, but please rest assured that while we can't have a code for security reasons, we are reviewing our door entry system.

I couldn't thank the staff enough for looking after my dad, all went beyond and above for him. They truly know the meaning of the importance of a therapeutic relationship between staff and service user. They delivered such high patient-centred care and in turn, this made my dad feel safe, cared for and he has been able to be the best version of himself. The home is clean, well-staffed, friendly and accommodated not only to Dad but with family too. Dad loved the food, the interaction and he is extremely happy. Thank you.

My sister-in-law moved into the home in December. It is a lovely home with lovely staff who have made her feel safe and well cared for. The food is lovely and her room is nice. Her laundry is always handled with care and the care staff are very polite and welcoming. All of her needs are met and she loves the activities that are in the home even when they have creature comforts in with snakes and spiders eek. Everyone knows her by name and understands her needs, wishes, likes and dislikes, she is not a number but is treated and loved as a person. I feel so reassured that she is in this home with such highly skilled and trained staff. They are truly remarkable.

Despite this care home being a cheaper care home due to funds, the carer in the home is always lovely and most of the team always check on me and my family when we come in each day. The care my dad has received has been good.

The nursing part of Furzehatt is where our father resides on the ground floor. We feel very happy with leaving dad in the care of the staff/nursing/laundry care/activity teams. We can visit dad whenever we like and sit with him day and night. We are afforded refreshments when we are sitting with dad for long periods. The home is clean and smells fresh and residents are supported quickly when necessary (mishaps). Nursing staff are quick to change clinical practices when needed and will change practices to meet individual needs. Food is excellent portions if anything too big. The auxiliary staff have made every effort to support our requests on behalf of dad in his bedroom. The care staff are friendly and respectful of and towards him thank you. The managers came up with a plan to accommodate additional storage to support the well-being and anxiety of dad.

A wonderful care home. They have cared for my wife very well. Will be booking again for respite after Christmas. My wife enjoyed the range of activities and the staff are very friendly. The food is good but could do with some different fresh fruits each day. The home is warm, smells nice and appears to be in order. The managers are kind and their door is open and people can go in any time. It was nice to see residents just sat in the managers office having a drink and even a little sleep as they worked and chatted away. Thank you for a lovely first respite.
