With an excellent reputation for the high standard of care, the long-serving team at Furzehatt are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents. Providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, they also offer respite care breaks.

There are so many activities to enjoy, from baking, yoga, animal therapy and music sessions, to gardening, indoor bowls, church services, games, a book club and crafts.

The community is embraced into life in the home, with regular volunteers enjoying activities too, as well as local school children and college students. The home also has a piano for music sessions.

This summer the team completely revamped the gardens ‘Ground Force’ style! The makeover looks beautiful, with two water features, a tortoise garden, home to Malcolm and Murtle and a new herb and vegetable garden.

The residents have enjoyed growing their own herbs and vegetables, which the chef used in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement.

And the home-cooked cuisine is a real highlight, with everything from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays, and home-baking for afternoon tea.

The team champion their residents to have a very active role to play in how their home is run. There are resident ambassadors, who do everything from interviewing potential staff, to showing new residents and their loved ones around their home.

There are so many homely spaces to relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time, from welcoming lounges and quiet spaces, to a conservatory overlooking the gardens. There is also a hair salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser. And a chiropodist also visits monthly.

Furzehatt also has a private family and friends Facebook page, with regular photos, videos and updates on what the residents have been enjoying doing.

An absolutely fantastic home. Furzehatt is highly recommended. My dad has been at two other homes, and Furzehatt is by far the best, and I should know as I am a nurse. The nursing staff are very knowledgeable, and the carers made sure we had everything we could wish for. The food looked good, and when
Dad lost his appetite, they even got his favourite sweets in for him to enjoy. The manager came in during the evening to introduce herself as the ambulance was late. She put our fears and worries at ease due to her kindness and reassurance. The deputy was also very kind. When Dad was passing, the team called for Mum to get there in time, and the manager came in at 2 am to see the family. The nurses are highly skilled and understand medication management very well. All the staff are lovely, and even though Dad was there for a few short weeks, we really appreciate all they did for us. Including asking for any ways to improve. Highly recommended.

I am unable to eat chicken, cheese, onions, lamb and mushrooms as they make me vomit. Sometimes there seems to be a lot of meals with chicken. This leaves me short of meal options. Otherwise, I am very happy here.

My parents have been living at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home for a year now. The dedicated care of the staff is first class. My parents have nothing but praise for the staff. As a family, we are well communicated with. On top of this, the staff team put on regular wonderful activities. I can’t
recommend this home highly enough.

The staff at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home have been amazing looking after my dad. They all have such a lovely and caring manner, which helps put my dad at ease. They also are brilliant at communicating with me and my brothers and keeping us up to date with any changes in my dad's needs. It
is always a pleasure to visit and my dad has been very happy here.

Very pleased with this care home, easy parking, clean and very happy with the staff. Mum is happy with the food - Mum prefers to sit in the lounge, she likes to talk to people. I can visit any time at all, always friendly staff. Mum enjoys activities, bingo, games and reading club. It would be good
if she got out more, maybe Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home could get transport in the future.

My first experience of a care home, very mixed conditions and ages of residents. People shouting out, disturbing other residents. Staff are excellent at dealing with their episodes. The food is excellent, rooms are a good size. Please keep up this very important vocation.

After Mum was moved to Furzehatt Care from a very noisy Hospital, it was exactly what was needed for the short period Mum had left. A peaceful room with lovely kind staff, including nurses. Mum was with you only ten days before she passed away peacefully 26.8.2022. We thank you for your gentle care
and kindness to a wonderful lady.

During my placement at Furzehatt, I was made to feel welcome and as part of a wonderful team. The care the residents received was second to none, with all staff putting the resident's needs first. There is a great bond between staff and the residents, and I couldn't recommend this home highly enough.

Mum lived at Furzehatt for 14 years and was treated as part of the family. It's always been a good home but improved dramatically in the last few years. Sadly the manager who made such a difference was posted elsewhere. Mum passed away on 6th July 2022. The care and attention she received in her last
days were excellent. My sister and I have been touched by the support of certain staff. Over the years, one, in particular, who carried out Mum's last care so beautifully. She is the foundation of Furzehatt.

Nothing but a great experience at Furzehatt. The staff are attentive and professional but really put a personalised touch on everything they do. The residents they look after are treated as though they were the staffs own family. They certainly do not get enough praise for the hard work they do at all
times!

I cannot explain how grateful I am for all the staff at Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Care Home. My dad is only 67 years old but with his medical condition putting him into this care home to keep him safe was a huge adjustment for him and family to come to terms with. They treat Dad with great respect
and the care is patient centred, they’ve given my dad life and purpose again, something he lost in himself. He has nothing but positive comments for this care home, he loves the care staff, he loves the independence he has with the security of care if needed. The food he has never said a bad word about, his room is a nice size with a toilet and sink, the grounds are beautiful. The biggest factor I am grateful for is bringing my dad back his smile, the staff are fantastic with him the activities he really enjoys and I couldn’t be any more grateful to everyone there.

The standard of care is ok, but I have often found her wearing someone else's clothes. I've asked staff not to do this and check her clothing is hers, but she is still wearing other people's items (XXL shirt on a size 10 75-year-old woman).
A week after Mother's Day, the clothing I took in for her
was in a ball behind her TV! The bag was sticking out!
There is only one lift, so when out of use, Mum is unable to get downstairs or use the new seating area.

Visiting Mum this week, after quite a long time, as I don't live locally. There are one or two new personnel as well as the wonderful familiar staff that I have come to know over a long time period.
Mum has been well looked after over many years and now she is frailer, staff are considerate of her
needs, as she is unable to communicate them herself.
The staff listened when I spoke with them and they act appropriately.
I feel the comfort that Mum is well cared for in this well-run care home.

My experience at Furzehatt Care Home was always a positive one, staff are friendly and seem happy to be working there. They are very knowledgable about their job and no question has ever been dismissed. The environment is nice and there are staff around so the residents are always looked after well.
Senior staff and nursing staff are always around to talk to if there are any queries and concerns. All in all the home is top notch and I’d put a member of my family in here.

Furzehatt in my opinion is one of the best care homes I have been to. They are professional, extremely caring and make everybody feel at ease. They treat every patient as if they were their relative going above and beyond to make sure all their needs are met. It's clean all the time, and whenever you
are there you're never short of seeing a cleaner around. I highly recommend the use of Furzehatt for caring needs or working needs. You won't get any better than you get here.

I have had several clients residing at Furzehatt. One of my clients always spoke very highly of Furzehatt staff and how she liked living there. I had visited her room prior to lockdown and it was spacious and homely. I have noticed when carrying out video calls with staff/Manager and my clients or visits,
that the staff I have had contact with have a good interaction with my clients and our very informative. I have not been aware of any safety and security concerns regarding my clients. The Manager always keeps me informed of any significant changes. One of my clients always spoke highly of the food.

I have visited on a few occasions and I can honestly say it is like family at Furzehatt. The staff and all the residents are all so well known to each other and the familiarity extends to the friends and family. It is so lovely to be somewhere with such warmth and caring in the atmosphere. I couldn't
fault the home in any way at all. And if I ever need care in the future, Furzehatt is at the top of my list.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.409)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.409) out of 10 for Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.409 for Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (238 Excellents x 5) + (71 Goods x 4) + (28 Satisfactorys x 3) + (13 Poors x 2) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 362 Ratings = 4.409
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I enjoy spending as much time with our residents as I possibly can and seeing them smile and enjoy their time with us, is so heart-warming.
