Amberwood House is a beautiful home in Ferndown.

Residents enjoy companionship and can join in with singing, music, exercise and arts and crafts sessions. There is the opportunity for gentle gardening activities in the summer sunshine, and there is a busy pen pal scheme.
The home is registered for nursing care and staffed by dedicated nurses and health care professionals with extensive experience in caring for age-related conditions and fully trained in infection control.

Amberwood House offers a homely environment that is both caring and professional. It is well led by a General Manager and Health Care Manager who are both very approachable and supportive. All the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to meet the needs of their residents nothing is too much
trouble. The catering is excellent and offers a varied and appetising choice of dishes each day. Guests are allowed to visit at any time which is very flexible. Highly recommend the home.

My father arrived at Amberwood in August 2020 following a major stroke. His mental health had been hugely affected by the stroke and he was extremely unsettled. The staff at Amberwood have been wonderful and shown so much kindness and consideration to my father’s condition. The staff have been very
supportive to me during difficult times and I’ve seen an almost miraculous improvement in my dad’s condition. He is very settled and very fond of the staff led by the manager. I feel there’s excellent team morale and a strong working ethos with an emphasis on compassion. I thoroughly recommend Amberwood.

It has been sad to see my mother lose her independence but I believe Amberwood has been an excellent choice. The care home is very welcoming and the residents are treated with kindness and respect. The food is very good and the staff have gone out of their way to be helpful and they have a happy and
positive view. I couldn't ask for more - apart from the end of covid!

My mum is in a great place for all the reasons indicated in the ratings. This gives me and the family peace of mind as we mostly live in Scotland. The team here are to be congratulated as it's not the easiest job in the world.

The care staff, nursing staff, and management all invest their interests in the residents and genuinely seem to care about mum's wellbeing this makes the world of difference. They go over and above the call of duty with their level of interest in their residents.

Everyone without exception at Amberwood House are so dedicated, they are just one big happy family. Straight away my mother was put at ease, nothing has been too much trouble and she was soon enveloped into the fold, Mum so enjoys the food.
The care and professionalism given to Mum when we found she
needed extensive nursing care has been exemplary and my sister, brother and myself are so, so pleased that our mother is residing with Amberwood

I recently visited my relative at Amberwood and was very impressed by the efforts that were made to make my visit safe for everyone. eg P.P.E. Even in these difficult times the staff have managed to retain their kindness and compassion towards the residents and visitors and I was made to feel extremely
welcomed.
My relative has been at Amberwood for several years now and in all that time I have felt confident that the staff have provided a safe and happy home where she can be looked after and cared for.
I'm sure I am not alone in wishing to thank all the staff for their continued love and care that they give day after day, and the extra efforts they have made to help us keep in touch with our family.
I look forward to a time when we can visit freely and enjoy your hospitality again. ( I miss the scrumptious cakes!!!)

Amberwood staff do really well looking after us all. The food and the way it is served is very appealing always with nice choices, good cutlery and serviettes. Coffee is good too. The staff take their time, they are kind and always on the go. You can ask them any questions. I don't stay up too long,
and I enjoyed the art classes in the morning.

Although I found it quite strange living in a care home initially, I feel far more relaxed about it now.
The staff are very good from the young ones to the elderly ones; they are all really lovely.
On the whole, I enjoy the meals, but I am a fussy eater. If I ask for something special, the staff always
try to get it for me. The gardens are very well maintained, and I enjoy spending time sitting outside.

I want to thank everyone at Amberwood House for all the care they have provided. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They have been great, especially as it has been a tough time over the last few weeks not being able to see my friend regularly. It is lovely that we are able

From initial contact to placing my friend in Amberwood, the attention to detail from the type of care through to medical needs was dealt with professionally but also considerately. When there has been any need to contact me with regard to hid health or needs; this has been done straight away.
Given
the extremely testing circumstances, we all face at this moment in time, Amberwood has kept us up to date with all matters that may be of interest or concern to us. Although worried and frustrated by the circumstances, he finds himself very satisfied with his level of care.

A true care home with kindness and respect for the patient. My one month here has felt like home. Although I am a poor eater after a major operation, the food was well prepared and mashed at the same time of arrival and now improved to proper meals, all be it small size.

My Mother has been a permanent resident at Amberwood House for six years and throughout this time she and we, her family, have been very happy with the care and nursing that she has received. The home is well maintained with lovely gardens to use and comfortable lounges for relaxation. The whole building
is spotlessly clean. She enjoys a wide range of activities and bus excursions. We are very happy with the care given to our Mother and know that we can always chat with the Manager if any problems arise.

I found the staff to be very friendly and polite and two staff I had a good laugh with, with my impersonation of Darth Vader of Star Wars. They thought it was great!


The care given to my mum was very good and on the two occasions I was able to get to see Mum, a meal was provided which was very kind

of them!


Great staff, first class!


NB - the food and menu were not great and Mum said they kept getting the request for the menu wrong.

I understand that since submitting this review, the Home Manager has made direct contact with your mother who has clarified that on one occasion the wrong meal was served to her room, she made staff aware of the issue and this was rectified immediately. We understand that there may have been some misunderstanding between yourself and your mother with you thinking this was a regular issue rather than a one-off occurrence. Your mother has since informed staff that although she has a very small appetite, she has found the food enjoyable.

My mother went to Amberwood House for respite care. Prior to this Mum was living alone with carers going in twice a day. When the respite period came to an end, Mum realised that she would miss the companionship. Not only is it wonderful for Mum but it gives me the comfort that Mum is cared for so well.
The staff at Amberwood are a credit to Colten Care. Nothing is too much of a chore for them and they are so caring.
