Living in Lancashire far away, I stayed an extra night in the well-appointed Guest room, as my heart couldn't pull myself away from my very ageing mum. Seeing her loose her ambulate, loose her sight and now with pain, while she still retains her lively spirit. I had seen and knew the Amberwood care
and facilities were excellent. From the nursing to the cleaning, all were excellent but I still worried who would replace me as her attentive son and companion? Who would stroke her hair, sit and play cards and sing with her?
And then I met one of the to Colten Companion Team and the magic happened. I was released and I could book my return train ticket confident that mum was being looked after totally. Thank you Coulton Companions and all at Amberwood House.

We needed a safe warm environment for mum after a serious fall. She is an independent very elderly lady, who appreciates privacy, empathetic care and beautiful surroundings. After a big confidence knock back she wanted to be able to recover steadily, choosing her own pretty room at her own pace. All
needs were met at Amberwood House, after a trusted friend's recommendation. Mum wanted to extend her respite fortnight so although expensive we felt Amberwood House represented all she needed as we are 80 miles away. Warm understanding competent staff, tranquil, stylish rooms, frequent diverse staff visits a lovely home.

All the staff are friendly, just like friends, not distant or aloof. Always on hand to answer questions or attend to a problem.
The residents must like it there because they are also chatty and friendly.

Very caring home. All staff are talkative to residents and very accommodating. Beds could be a bit more comfortable. Staff treat you like humans. Food is good and well cooked, could be a bit more variety.

I moved into Amberwood in 2014 on respite and was so happy that I decided to stay. The food and catering team are excellent. I am very happy living at Amberwood and the staff team are very kind and friendly and very happy with the care and support I receive. Lots of activities which I really enjoy.
I
regularly meet with the Home Manager and assist with interviews as the homes residents representative.

My mother arrived at Amberwood House at the end of January 2016 and the move went very smoothly due to the efficient care of so many staff members. Listed below are a few points I find impressive about Amberwood House.
1. Good first impression on entering the reception area throughout the ground floor.
2. Bright internal furnishings and decor.
3. Good sized bedrooms and bathrooms furnished to a high standard.
4. Friendliness of the staff both of the residents and their guests.
5. Variety and flexibility of the daily meals- often a special pasta dish will be prepared just for my mother as this is her favourite food.
6. The variety of activities throughout the week, especially at the weekend.
7. Might consider getting in a manicurist a couple of days a week in the room used by the hairdresser.

Always clean and fresh smelling. Good/pleasant atmosphere. Approachable staff. Excellent food. Plenty of activities. Nice areas for tea/coffee. Minus point - sometimes parking is difficult.

This home is well run, clean and comfortable. The staff are very kind and considerate to all residents and they maintain a happy and cheerful environment which is very reassuring for myself and my family knowing that our mum is so well cared for now she is bed bound. I would have no hesitation in recommending
this home, which is more like a luxury hotel than a nursing home. Well done and thank you to all concerned.

My father arrived as an interim resident, however quickly settled and enjoys life so much at Amberwood he has decided to stay. Every member of staff appears to have time not just for dad but for me too when I visit. Nothing is a silly question, from management to laundry staff, they all have a smile
on their faces. The whole environment is spotless and a joy to be in. Everyone values dad as we do and that's wonderful.

My husband stayed here three years ago when ill and was looked after very well. Unfortunately he was very ill with cancer and died here on the 22nd of November 3 years ago. The staff had been very good and kind to him and he was looked after well, with great kindness.
I do get very fond of some of
the lovely nurses who look after me, I am very grateful when they cheer me up when I feel low. Some even offered to go shopping with me. I feel so lucky to have them. I am deeply sorry when they are sent to another ward or room.

Rooms are very comfortable and attractive, though chairs could have been more comfortable. Bathroom ok, a good variety of food, laundry service could have been better, I lost two items of clothing which were never found. Staff were great, always pleasant and ready to help.
Reply from Elaine Farrer, Director of Operations at Amberwood HouseThank you for your comments about the staff, management, accommodation, cleanliness and laundry service at Amberwood House. Please note we have a strict labelling programme for clothing in order to prevent items from going astray. This is part of our step-by-step admission guide. Thereafter, we rely on families letting us know when they bring new items of clothing in so they can be labelled as well. We are sorry about the missing clothing mentioned on this occasion. Please be reassured we do our very best to ensure laundry is cared for and not lost and are confident that this matter has now been resolved. Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts.”

Amberwood House is an excellent residential and nursing care home, with a superb staff who gave me great care and treated me with so much kindness. When I spent two weeks there for extra rest after my operation to remove a large growth and full hysterectomy at the age of 91 years. I thank them all/

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.841)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.841) out of 10 for Amberwood House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.916 for Amberwood House is calculated as follows: ( (187 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 202 Ratings = 4.916
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Amberwood House is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
