The general manager has been a delight to deal with, nothing is too much trouble and he is immediately responsive. My mother was a very reluctant arrival but is settling well and engaging with everything. The home is beautifully appointed and my parent's room is very comfy and modern. Delicious food, which I am looking forward to sampling! Fantastic activities and a really active on social media so we can see our folks enjoying everything! Such a relief - thank you!

My 97 yr old father with dementia had an emergency admission on the afternoon of 23.12.22 - having contacted the care home only that morning. The manager came and assessed him immediately and arranged for transport to pick him up. He was admitted to a clean room with good facilities. His clothes and belongings were immediately tagged. The nursing staff looking after him were kind and attentive and cheerful. They made him comfortable and undertook regular observation. On 25.12 he was ready to come to us for Christmas lunch by 10.30 am. Unfortunately on the evening of the 27th, he deteriorated further. He required quite a lot of input from the senior nurses overnight, who arranged for him to be seen by the paramedics and then the on-call doctor for the area.

The family had already decided that aggressive treatment was futile in my father's case - so he remained in the nursing home receiving exemplary end-of-life care. We were made to feel welcome and were able to stay until he died.

My mother spent the last 6 months of her life at Hunters Lodge. She had just lost her husband and had become very confused and upset. She came for respite care initially but we knew she couldn't cope alone in her apartment. She moved to Hunters permanently to be near me and had a beautiful newly refurbished room which opened out onto the courtyard. She loved the outdoors so much and this was really important for her. She had a lovely summer in the courtyard, eating outside and socialising with her new friends. She had really started to settle, join in activities and make friendships.

From the beginning, all the staff were amazing caring and welcoming to my mother and us. It was good to know she was safe, warm and well-fed. Hunter's lodge is a very special place because of the wonderful staff. They cared so well for Mum and since her death, they have also cared for me.

We would like to say a big heartfelt thank you to everyone who knew and cared for our lovely Dad on Memory Lane, who sadly left us all on Thursday 1st September. His long struggle with dementia is finally over but his spirit will live on.
My Dad received so much love and respect from everyone, it will never be forgotten. Hunters became his home but you all became his second family, he loved you all as did we.

It takes somebody special to do the job that you all do. You can't learn it from a book, it's either in your heart or not. You are all amazing people and we will miss seeing you all. Thank you again for everything that you did for Dad and for your massive support and kindness when he passed away.

Hunters Care Home provided care for my mum in what turned out to be the last week of her life.
We knew when organising a place for her it would be end-of-life care, and the home manager was so supportive and helpful in guiding me through the process.
They responded quickly to my mum's needs and went above and beyond to speed up her admission.
Once at Hunters, the staff were so caring and compassionate and were happy to respond to any requests.
They treated my mum with care and respect and made me feel comfortable in what was an incredibly difficult and emotional time.

I can’t thank the staff enough; they do an amazing job, and the management was so supportive and responsive. I would recommend them without hesitation.

Review from Ann L (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 December 2021 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My 98-year-old mother needed to have respite care and took advantage of a three for two weeks offer. This was to give my 98-year-old father a break - it was pleasing to see strict adherence to Covid precautions, which did not waver. My mother was encouraged to join other residents at mealtimes and for activities, which she declined. She was well-fed, warm and cared for by everyone from the management, receptionist, care staff, cleaners, maintenance men, catering and hairdressers and, in fact, everyone she came into contact with. Although she was reluctant to come, I think she will be back sooner rather than later.

My Grandmother, at the age of ninety-eight, went to Barchester Hunters Care Centre from the hospital for respite and to get a “feel” of the care homes as she was finding it more difficult to live independently. She has been so welcomed by the staff and is always greeted when they pass her. There are lots of amenities and activities, but these are not pushed on residents, and if they prefer to stay in their room, that is respected. The grounds are kept beautifully, and the menu choices are amazing. I’m kept informed by Barchester Hunters Care Centre regularly, but most of all, my Grandmother feels safe, which gives me peace of mind.

Hunters took Dad into its care during the pandemic, not the easiest time to move it. My mother has been a resident of Hunters for 7 years. She began in the assisted living area, moved to Hunters View as she needed more care and has recently moved to Memory Lane due to her progressing dementia needs.
The standard of care provided by the team at Hunters has been excellent. The staff treat my mother with great respect and have helped her maintain her dignity. They are always friendly, compassionate and totally professional.
The care home is well maintained, clean and comfortable. Activities are provided and the staff make great efforts to ensure that all residents are included and encouraged to join in.
I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful team to anyone as they work tirelessly to provide an exemplary standard of care.

I would like to thank everyone at Hunters for the support, care and affection they have shown my mother throughout her stay. Their handling of the COVID crisis has also been excellent, keeping residents safe and family informed.
