It was a difficult decision to put Mum in a care home, but necessary. Why did we worry? She was looked after by loving, sensitive, caring staff. Westbourne is not a care home but a home that cares. Mum passed in December 2023. It was a no-brainer when mum-in-law needed care. Westbourne was number one
on the list. Luckily, they were able to take mum-in-law, and it has given her a new lease of life. It's so heartwarming to see her so happy. Thank you, Westbourne. You are angels.
Reply from Helen Haughton, Operations Manager at Westbourne Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words. We adored Mum when she lived with us and we are so glad that you decided to recommend us for your Mother-in-law. We love having her and she brightens up our days.

My mother-in-law has been in Westbourne for nearly 2 years. The standard of care is excellent. She is treated with respect, care and patience, and the staff are attentive and sensitive to her needs. Additionally, the staff are welcoming to family and friends.

Mum moved into Westbourne about 10 months ago. She is very happy there and loves the way she is cared for. All of the staff are excellent and extremely caring. She settled in very quickly and we have no worries at all. Every time I visit, she has tales to tell of the fun she has had with the varied
activities and day trips. I could not recommend them highly enough.
Reply from Frances O'Shaughnessy, Business Administrator at Westbourne Care HomeThank very much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review, it means so much to all the team. It is a pleasure caring for your wonderful mum.

My father has been here since 18th February 2026, and I can honestly say that he has settled in well. I have found all the staff very friendly and helpful. They are all passionate about their work. I cannot find one single thing to criticise. I would thoroughly recommend this care home to everyone.
My father, James, went out with many of the others yesterday on a canal barge; they had a lovely time. I rate Westbourne Care Home 5 stars.

It was an emotional decision to put my 93 year old Mum into a care home, but as soon as I walked into Westbourne Care Home I felt the warmth, cre and professionalism was outstanding. The carer who showed us around was kind, informative and compassionate. My mum has been a resident for 2 weeks now and
is very settled. The staff are caring, warm and understanding, nothing is too much trouble! Food and activities are fantastic. Thank you Westbourne!

Mum has been at Westbourne Care Home since July 2024. She has advanced dementia and also cannot walk so needs help with everything. The staff are wonderful with her; they are caring and patient and always treat mum with respect. Added to this they are cheerful. I visit twice weekly, there is always
a cup of tea on offer, and staff update me as to how mum is and what she has been doing. Mum is happy and settled. The meals are varied and plentiful. There are a wide range of activities offered throughout the week to keep residents entertained and the staff go that extra mile in meeting the residents needs.
I would recommend Westbourne to anyone looking for a friendly, happy care home.

My wife has been a resident since November 24 and has dementia and mobility problems. I visit Westbourne 4 times a week and I'm always greeted with a warm hello from all members of the staff.

I'm very pleased with my wife's care, she's always clean, nicely dressed and cared for. All the staff are

very calm, patient and loving with her and the other residents in her wing.

She can't remember ever eating any of the food! But having sampled the food on a number of occasions it's always very tasty and varied. Cups of tea and snacks are always on hand.

Her room is always neat, tidy and spotlessly clean. I'm very grateful for the care Westbourne gives my wife.

As my mum has been at Westbourne for over 4 years this is my second review.
My mum has always been and still is really happy there.
Westbourne is like one big happy family with a great atmosphere, the staff are really friendly, happy, work hard and always willing to have a chat. They care for the
residents with dignity and compassion.
Any issues I have with my mum are dealt with promptly.
All the meals are good with plenty of variety and choice.
The activities lady is fantastic with all the residents. There is always lots of different activities going on and the residents and staff have so much fun. The staff love dressing up for different events, which the residents really enjoy. In the summer they went on trips to Weston super mare, a wildlife park and various others. I would not hesitate in recommending this care home for anyone looking for a place for their loved one.

We removed Mum from Westbourne at the end of October 2025 due to being unhappy with the care she was receiving. For the 18months or so that Mum was a resident, there seemed to be problem after problem. Initially, furniture was dumped not far from Mum's window & we had to nag to get it removed. She was
never properly assessed for a DoLS (deprivation of liberty safeguard) despite my constant request, as I knew Mum didn't have 'full capacity'. Mum's personal care was pretty shocking. I constantly found dirty underwear in her drawers. Her toenails were left to grow so long, that Mum struggled to get shoes on. Staff turnover was horrendous. The new manageress lasted five weeks in the summer! Communication was awful. The phone would ring & ring and emails quite often unanswered - even at head office level. The home even had the audacity to report me to the authorities saying I removed Mum against her will! We have POA & have always had Mum's best interest at heart.
Reply from Josie Dalli, Director at Westbourne Care HomeWe loved having your Mum with us & she loved being here and that is why we were so worried about her leaving so distressed and questioning why. We recognise (tried to explain & offered Social Worker support to help which you refused) that she does not have full capacity, however, she does have capacity to decide what she wants to wear and who she wants to spend time with etc. We would never override her own decisions if she was safe as you asked us to (and no care home ever should). She had great friends at Westbourne and was a key member of all our brilliant WellBeing activities. She refused chiropody footcare and you failed to help us when we asked you to support us in trying to encourage her. Your Mum was always immaculate and DoLs was fully assessed as you know. I am so sorry that you feel this way, we all tried our very best for your Mum and it was you who we could not satisfy, not her. Fortunately, your brother was very grateful for her care and sent chocolates to say thank you.

I wanted to go into respite care to give my husband a break from being my full time carer. I wasn't sure where I should go or what I should do. Through the council I was placed at Westbourne Care Home. I can only say positive things bout Westbourne Care. They have made me feel really comfortable and
at ease. They have helped me with washing, dressing, getting in and out of bed. Also having nice meals. All of the staff have been really friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to go back.

We were initially really worried about Mum going into residential care. At 90 years old, and having lived with us as part of our family for the last decade on our smallholding, we knew this would be a very hard move for us all. Mum had grown up on a farm and lived in the countryside all of her life
but we could no longer cope with the lack of mobility that Mum was faced with and her inability to move without significant equipment and the support of two carers. Mum was with Westbourne for 5 months, and whilst her decline was sad to see due to many illnesses including blood cancer, we could never fault the care or compassion shown by the staff at Westbourne - it was first class. During the last couple of weeks, when Mum was moved to end of life, the support was outstanding and the staff made what was an incredibly hard time far easier to deal with due to their kindness, attention and dignity. I will never forget the commitment and love shown by the staff to Mum.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.726)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.726) out of 10 for Westbourne Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.726 for Westbourne Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (223 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 263 Ratings = 4.726
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westbourne Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
