Chestnut Court offers up to 80 residents compassionate, individualised nursing, dementia and respite care in a modern, comfortable environment. Opened in 2009, the home is in an attractive residential area, close to all local amenities in Quedgeley.

This modern home radiates a homely atmosphere. With your comfort and well-being in mind, this welcoming home is designed around four 'households'. You will find somewhere to relax or socialise with family and friends from your own spacious bed-sitting room, with en-suite facilities, to communal lounge and dining areas which are light, bright and comfortable.

Interesting scents, shapes and colours are provided all year round in their landscaped gardens. There are raised planting beds so you can join in the gardening activities if you so wish. To give you the support you need when you need it, a friendly, professionally trained team are on hand around-the-clock to support you in how you wish to spend your day enabling you to continue to enjoy a fulfilling and independent lifestyle.

Dedicated Activities Coordinators organise a varied programme of events around each individual's requests, hobbies and interests. The team will be delighted to assist you to continue with existing pastimes, as well as give you the opportunity to try something new if you would like to. They make sure everyone is able to enjoy themselves to the fullest, be that with arts and crafts, a coffee morning or more individual pursuits. Visits from outside entertainers happen regularly. The home has access to a Trust minibus for trips out.

A talented cook and kitchen team prepares tasty, home-cooked meals. The freshly-prepared, delicious dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and take into account individual dietary requirements and preferences. Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join.

Your fees cover several areas while in their care.
These services are: Personal care, accommodation,
utilities, use of communal areas, meals, drinks and

Services NOT included in price are: dentistry, chiropody,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, opticians, hairdressing,
medications, toiletries, clothing, newspapers/magazines.
During your stay, you may need to purchase additional goods
and services. If they are able to provide such goods and
services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
services at the time you request them.
They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
be paid for by yourself.

Mum has settled in really well due to the combination of a bright, sunny and clean room, excellent food, ability to come out with family and friends unrestricted, but most of all due to the genuine, outstanding care shown to her at all times, making her feel so special, giving the whole family peace
of mind.

My Mum has been at Chestnut Court for 6 weeks. First as a patient in the nursing unit and then as a resident. She has received exemplary care from both nursing and care staff. She has now settled into the residential unit, with bits and pieces from home to help her settle in. As a family, we have felt
welcomed and supported by staff, particularly as we have negotiated the complexities of social care and financial assessments. When Mum was very poorly a few days ago paramedics were called promptly and I was contacted straight away. After a day in A&E Mum was very happy to come back 'home' to Chestnut Court and I think that says it all!

The all round care is excellent, the food is of good quality, well cooked and presented, I have a meal with my wife at least three times a week, and it is very good. The staff are very understanding and very caring, and that goes for the office staff as well. The home is very clean and you are made
very welcome. Well done.

My husband has been in Chestnut Court for just over a year and has had excellent care from all the staff. The carers handle difficult situations with patience and humour and my husband responds positively to both. I would definitely recommend this home as a very loving and caring home - not only to
the residents but to their families also.

My mum has been a resident for about two years and, in overall terms, she is happy and well looked after. It is evident that the pandemic has had an impact on the home and that they have had staffing difficulties in the past but it seems that the worst of these things is now behind them. The staff (including
catering, cleaning, activity and care staff) seem to be a thoroughly dedicated group of people who are committed to the care and well-being of the residents. They are all great!
Management systems do not always work - external appointments are not always recorded, events and needs not always passed on from shift to shift, advice from the district nurse is not always followed up.
There is also a challenge when it comes to providing care which sits on the borderline between medical and personal care which has resulted in Mum not getting some of the care she needs. The rooms are starting to look a little frayed around the edges.

I think Chestnut Court Care Home is a huge improvement compared to the previous care home my brother was formally a resident. The staff are very caring and seem to spend lots of time with the residents. Two members of staff are especially friendly and nothing seems to be too much bother for them.
I
think this care home, as a whole, is very clean and well-maintained. My brother's room is spotless like you would expect if you were staying in a hotel.
I would certainly rate Chestnut Court as excellent.

Superb staff team with good communication about care needs. The environment of the dementia units is very friendly for sufferers, with lots of varied stimuli, colours/sensate/pictures etc.
Assessment unit - light, airy and clean with a good feel.

Staff, environment and food, all excellent. From the moment we first visited Chestnut Court Care Home, everyone was so welcoming and helpful in settling Mum into her new environment. We cannot praise or thank the staff for helping Mum settle into her new home. It's a pleasure to visit. The home has
a wonderful atmosphere with various activities going on. Would highly recommend Chestnut Court to my friends or anyone who is looking for an outstanding care home.

This was a sad time for the family. My father had cancer and his life expectancy was short. The home supported us and allowed us to visit at any time, day or night. We were able to use all the facilities and discuss my father's care round the clock. They did all they could to give a holistic approach
to the nursing of my father.

The staff are going above and beyond with helping Dad. The food is excellent. One member of staff is very good with Dad and keeping us updated.

I cannot recommend Chestnut Court Care Home highly enough, both my parents have been residents there on the dementia unit. The care they have received has been fantastic, the staff are all so friendly and have treated both my parents with kindness, dignity and empathy, also myself and my family.
The
home is clean and rooms are a great size, allowing residents to have personal items, like pictures, or a favourite chair to feel at home and a lovely garden.
Both parents also enjoyed the home-cooked meals.

Mom is happy and likes her surroundings.
Staff are lovely but realise they are short-staffed at the moment. They are very caring.
Nice that the activities are able to resume after all the Covid restrictions and that the residents are able to go out.

We feel very lucky to have placed Nan in such a wonderful place. The staff are so friendly and very approachable. Throughout Nan's stay, as she is declining, we are kept up to date and involved as her needs change. Equally, if we see/observe changes, we feel totally at ease talking to the carers.

Our mother recently passed away at Chestnut Court. Your excellent care home and caring professional staff really wasted her passing. She died peacefully with dignity. The care home was a wonderful facility but not too clinical. It had a homely feel, and her last days were spent in the best possible
place. My mother and the wider family were supported by supportive staff.

Ruth and Leah

Ruth and Leah Jefferies

Job Title: Activity Co-ordinators

Joined: 2004

Ruth and Leah are our mother and daughter dream team of Activity Co-ordinators at Chestnut Court.


Having worked at Chestnut Court for over 16 years, Ruth sees the home as much more than just a place of work and can’t imagine working anywhere else.


“I am passionate about Chestnut Court. I see the residents here as my friends and I am very lucky that I get to spend time with them as part of my job.”


Leah also has a strong connection with Chestnut Court, having spent so much time at the home with residents during her upbringing.


“I have been coming to Chestnut Court since I was 9 years old. I can remember coming into the home to spend with residents here whilst growing up – even on Christmas Day! Whilst at University studying Illustration, I would come back to Chestnut Court during my time off to help out as well.”


Their role as Activity Co-ordinators within the home is to support the wellbeing of residents with a stimulating and varied programme of activities.


“Our aim is to allow people to maintain the interests and hobbies they have had all their lives as much as we can. We also enjoy helping them to develop new interests and overcome barriers.”


With such a strong connection to the home built up over a number of years, it was impossible for Ruth and Leah to pick just one favourite memory of their time at Chestnut Court.


“We love spending time with the residents. There have been times when we have done the conga around the home with residents, looked through their photo albums with them and so much more. Hearing some of their brilliant life stories and getting them to open up to us is the best feeling.”

Gence

Gence Mekkunnel

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2020

Gence started working at Chestnut Court as the Home Manager in February 2020. Before moving to Chestnut Court, Gence had spent 8 years working as a Home Manager with another care provider. Gence has a background in nursing with over 20 years’ experience.


“From the first moment I visited Chestnut Court, I knew it was the home for me. There was a lovely atmosphere running throughout the home. I was also attracted to the values OSJCT has an organisation. They put their residents and team at the heart of everything they do.” Gence said.


During his time at Chestnut Court, Gence has overseen an improved CQC rating and led the home throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, Gence acknowledges that his proudest moment is the way the team has stuck together throughout.


“I am incredibly proud of the way the team has stuck together. I could not have done it without them.”
