Reviews

8.6 The Rosary Nursing Home has a Review Score of 8.6 (8.624)

The Review Score of 8.6 (maximum of 10) for The Rosary Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 19 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Rosary Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.134 for The Rosary Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (104 Goods x 4) + (30 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 216 Ratings = 4.134

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.49 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Rosary Nursing Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 20.4 positive Reviews (102 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 20.4 Target = 0.490

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I am happy to say I have seen several improvements to my concerns during recent months. The numbers of staff per shift has increased and this has lead to a much calmer atmosphere, and the care staff are able to spend more time with the residents paying attention to all their needs. The nurses and care staff are all excellent and we hope that they will be given the encouragement and remuneration to remain working at The Rosary. There is now a very good range of activities and entertainment available to all. I feel there is a much-improved structure to the general running of the home, which can only be a good thing!

I do not know anything about the management, cost or facilities. I have been visiting my friend for a number of years in this care home and have found the staff to be friendly and caring and ready to listen and act on any concerns which have been mentioned. So much depends on the numbers of staff on duty. This is not an easy task in any way to care for loved ones who have severe dementia and a lot depends on the mentors who have the responsibility to teach the new beginners and show them carefully what is needed.

The overall care is excellent and all the staff I have met appear caring and conscientious.

Standard of food is excellent. I have paid for lesser food quality in a restaurant.
The actual "nurses" in blue cannot be faulted and I have found them to be both efficient and caring. The management struggle at times with staffing levels but always maintain a positive helpful approach.

We would like to see some plain English food and assistance with cutting it up, also a bib, they never seem to arrive.

For £975 a week, paid by us, sometimes it's a bit disappointing.

Home manager said: Thank you for your review - I am really disappointed to read your comments. We always pride ourselves on the variety of food available for residents throughout the day and night which includes a meat, fish and vegetarian option daily and our chef will happily make something else if our residents don’t like what is on offer. Also, we are very mindful that we are available to provide support to those residents who need it during mealtimes. Please do come and speak to me about your concerns as I’m very keen to get these resolved.

I can't fault the staff, who are friendly, approachable and caring. It's like having a second family.

Following a spell in hospital, my 79-year-old husband has been recuperating for the last six weeks at The Rosary. As he is on a large number of pills (medication) and eye-drops so his care is not simple. I have found the staff at all levels, helpful, kind and competent during this and previous stays. There are also interesting things available during afternoons (such as music entertainer).

My father was taken ill and admitted to hospital. He was my mother's carer and as a result, we had to find somewhere for my mother to stay as she could not look after herself at home. Social Services were contacted and the Rosary was recommended to us. On arrival, we were met by the manager who welcomed my mother and took us to her room which is en-suite and has a window overlooking the Quantock hills. She was made very welcome and shown where things were and how to get assistance. Due to circumstances, her stay has been made permanent. She is being very well looked after and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. The meals are very good and if required relatives are able to have lunch on site during their visit if pre-booked at a small cost. Mother is transported by the home to hospital appointments when needed with a carer to look after her. Activity days are provided for residents to take part in if they wish. I would like to say a very big thank you to all staff.

I have several experiences of friends and loved ones being in The Rosary, some good and some not so. The negative ones were several years ago and I must say that I think there have been many great improvements made in recent years. My husbands grandmother has recently passed away after being there for several years and we have nothing but praise for her stay there. I also visit a very good friend there now and I would say some of the staff go above and beyond with their care and attention but unfortunately a few could do better.

I visit my mother everyday and on numerous occasions my mothers sheets have smelt of urine, she has had the same clothes on for 4 days until I complained. The home is lovely. Just few things that need addressing. The staff are fantastic, helpful and friendly just certain issues need correcting.
