Torrwood is a purpose-built nursing care home for 82 people with residential, dementia and nursing care needs. With countryside surroundings and within close proximity to the pretty cathedral city of Wells, the home offer long term and respite care in safe, warm and welcoming surroundings.

All Torrwood residents enjoy en-suite bedrooms and the use of comfortably furnished social areas, while there is also a reminiscence room and a cinema room that offer numerous hours of enjoyment and mental health benefits.

Some of the activities available to residents include arts and crafts sessions, musical events and regular outings to a popular attractions. The friendly, experienced and qualified registered nurses are available around the clock to provide the support you or your loved one might need. I've had experience of Torrwood house in Wells through finding a place for my stepmother and brief respite care for my father. The situation has been tricky and has needed care, professionalism and expert knowledge. The manager and staff at Torrwood have been exemplary in their support and knowledge
and have made a difficult problem solvable. As family members, we too have felt cared for with great warmth and kindness from all staff.
The home itself is very well run, with a good atmosphere, excellent staff and a feeling of care and respect for the residents. This is exactly what a care home should be like.

Mum was suffering from Dementia and had been a resident at Torrwood for 18 months. For the last 3 weeks, until her death, she had been moved into the nursing care section. We have nothing but praise for all of the staff that looked after mum, they were hard-working and very caring. Many of the staff
who had looked after her in the residential section called in to see mum in the nursing section during the past 3 weeks, often doing so in their break times. The bedrooms and dayrooms were all very clean and fresh and the food was always nice and with a choice. Mum regularly had her hair done in the purpose-built salon and she had regular treatments from the visiting lady to do nail care etc. The visiting chaplain regularly spoke to and comforted mum. I have to say again that all of the staff were so helpful and caring and nothing we asked was ever too much trouble for them.

This care home stood out from the rest, I inspected many. Everything from the warm welcome my aunt and I received, the truly excellent care, cleanliness and freshness of all areas and lovely rooms. Nice fabrics and carpets make it feel like home.
The bedrooms are exceptional, all en-suite/wet room
with plenty of space, all with a nice view. There is also a very nice wheel chair accessible garden which we enjoyed. As for the food, it’s all home cooked and there always seems to be teas, coffees, and cake (it’s so important that the eating is something to look forward to, so thanks to the chef!)
There are activities to keep everyone busy. Exercise class, hairdresser, church service with singing, quizzes and music therapy.
The staff are all very caring, highly trained and treat everyone with compassion and dignity.
I wish to thank you all for your friendship and kindness and for taking such excellent care of my aunt in her final four years, I know she was happy at Torrwood.

My mum entered Torrwood with signs of dementia already showing. This alone was stressful enough and putting your trust in other people to care for your mother was not easy. However, all I saw was caring staff showing empathy and understanding for Mum and family. I would not hesitate to use Torrwood
if the need arose.

We were very well supported when my father had to go in for respite care suddenly. They made a huge effort to make him feel welcome. Care staff all very kind, thoughtful and professional. The care given to Mum is exemplary - the staff go above and beyond what is asked of them to ensure she is comfortable and well looked after. The home is clean, fresh and we are very comfortable spending time there, which we do a lot of when we visit, due to living a long distance away.
It gives us
comfort to know we have chosen such a lovely place for Mum and that she is safe and never alone. The carers and nurses are also so understanding of our family’s needs when we visit.

I moved my sister to Torrwood Care Centre as she needed more qualified care. In the 5 weeks she has been a resident the improvement in her has been astounding.

My mum has been at Torrwood Care Centre for 8 months on their nursing floor. The staff are friendly and understand mums care needs. She enjoys the food which is homely, loves the cakes at teatime. The nurses know my mum well and meet her needs, she is very happy and quickly got used to her new home.
She loves the pom pom group and it is great to see her smile and engage with other residents.

Respite care for my grandmother. A really welcoming home with a lovely clean room and attentive staff who were very caring. There is always plenty going on and it was nice to see my grandmother mixing with other residents and enjoying a laugh. Definitely a home I would consider if my grandmother's care
needs became permanent.

I cannot praise Torrwood Care Centre highly enough and would unreservedly recommend it to others.
My parents have been resident here for the last 7 months and have very differing needs. Torrwood has enabled mum and dad to be cared for under the same roof and has daily contact which is so important
after 64 years of marriage.
Every member of staff on both Oak and Beech has shown such kindness not only to my parents but also to our family whenever we visit. They are always cheerful, professional and very caring. It is evident that they work hard to go the extra mile and nothing is too much trouble.
Thank you to each and every one of you. You've made a very big difference to our lives and we are truly grateful.

From my first visit to Torrwood, I feel that the "atmosphere" is really good.
The staff are amazing from sister to health care assistants. My husband settled very quickly which indicated how caring everyone is.

My sister and I felt extremely fortunate to have been offered a room for my 95-year-old mother during the last four months of her life. Her health condition and deterioration during that time meant that she needed increased amounts of care, all of which were provided with respect and compassion by
nursing and care staff. The home was clean, bright and airy, with the regular involvement of volunteers who engaged with the residents in a positive way. The location of Torrwood, on the edge of Wells, was ideally suited to my mother and enabled the family to visit easily.
We were pleased to be able to use a not for profit service, knowing that the quality of care was most important. Thank you to the staff and other residents who made my mother's last few weeks as comfortable and safe as possible.

One day I hope all nursing and residential homes will be this good. Torrwood came very highly recommended - after we had already decided that it was the best in the area - and it has surpassed our high expectations. Simply outstanding.


The warm, patient, friendly and professional way the staff are

looking after and caring for my elderly father is as good as I could possibly hope for. He has settled very happily and his health is improving daily after some quite challenging experiences.

The staff at Torrwood are very kind and caring. My Mother had some very complex and serious health issues when she first arrived and was thought to be in a terminal state. However, the excellent nursing care has brought her back to a much healthier situation and she is happy in her in her surroundings
and loves the staff. I feel well supported as a relative. If I have any issues, they are quickly and efficiently dealt with. My only issues at the moment that I am unhappy about is the 9.5% increase in rent.

My mother in law arrived one week ago, we were all very apprehensive about her going into a care home (even though we had visited Torrwood two weeks before). I was so impressed from the very first moment she entered Torrwood, the way she was spoken to and made welcome. We were able to have lunch with
her on the first day and were thrilled to see her eating and enjoying her first meal in weeks. I can honestly say we have seen a huge improvement in her in only a few days.

My mother has been a Resident at Torrwood for the last 3 years, she passed away 12th March 2018.
Mother had Vascular Dementia with additional medical issues.
All the staff, Senior to Junior were kind, caring and professional - I could not fault the attention my Mother received.
Good food, nice cosy
room, plenty of activities if desired and in beautiful surroundings. Mother was very happy here.

My husband has been in Torrwood Care Centre for two years and settled quickly. I have found the staff pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere is good and communication excellent. They are aware of the residents' needs. It has helped me to make the adjustment of living without my husband. The administrative

    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months.   4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
