My father spent 2 weeks of respite care after a hospital visit. He had a number of complications that the staff handled very well. They were friendly, reassuring and professional and showed genuine empathy even though he was only there for a short time. My father has a restrictive diet and did find
the food repetitive and not very exciting. Apart from that, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the whole home has a welcoming feel to it. Thank you for looking after him so well.

Friendly, highly professional staff ensure that a wonderful relaxed atmosphere exists. Staff seem to genuinely care about wellbeing of the residents and nothing seems too much trouble. There always seems to be an activity going on outside of meal times including afternoon trips. Premises are spotless.
Well done!

I have visited my friend weekly for the last two years. Great empathy has been shown to her since her arrival. Initially unhappy to be in a "home", she is now both settled and content. The most impressive part of Merlin Court is the outstanding staff, courteous, cheerful and supportive not only to residents
but to relatives and friends.

I have been visiting a close relative in Merlin Court for the last six months. I am hugely impressed with the excellent care and support they get. As soon as you walk into the reception area you are greeted with a big smile and a warm welcome by the receptionist. The carers and nurses are all so kind,
caring, understanding and always show respect and dignity. They all go the extra mile to both residents and families. The room and communal rooms are spotlessly clean. The housekeepers are another very kind and friendly team. Keep up the good work Merlin Court staff.
Reply from Ian Robertson, Home Manager at Merlin Court Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your incredibly kind review and we are delighted that you are so happy with Merlin Court. The decision to move your loved family member into a care home is always complex and emotional. We feel that the environment and care provided by Merlin Court has been exemplary. It is a "safe space" where elderly residents can thrive and interact socially with others, where staff genuinely demonstrate
empathy, always smiling and brimming with positivity. Thus allowing extended family to sleep soundly knowing that their mother/father is getting the best care delivered with compassion.
Reply from Ian Robertson, Home Manager at Merlin Court Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your extraordinarily kind review. It is both an honour and a privilege to care for people in their later years, and we are delighted to hear that you are reassured by our home and hope that you and your relative continue to be happy for many years to come. Thank you once again.

I would like to thank the staff at Merlin Court Care Home for the love and care they have shown to my mum and dad over the last four years. My dad died last year and we chose that he his last days at Merlin rather than a hospital. We felt supported in every way in the decisions we made and my dad died
with grace and dignity. My mum tells me that she feels lucky because she knows she is safe and my sister and I witness the kindness and respect she receives every time we see her. For that, we are grateful because we can just enjoy being her daughters again.

My mother has now been a resident at Merlin Court for almost two years, and she is very happy there. Every member of the team has been kind and helpful throughout, and when we have had requests or small concerns, these have been listened to and resolved. Such positivity comes from the top, and we have
been impressed by the manager, his deputy and the senior nurses, as well as the attitude of many of the carers, which is positive and upbeat.
I would recommend Merlin Court to anyone considering the home. Mum has described it as "a happy place", and I find that very reassuring.

Merlin Court Care Home provides a safe, secure, comfortable and homely environment for my Father. He enjoys interactions with the staff who are friendly, helpful and highly competent. He also enjoys the company of other residents and especially with men who are generally in short supply. His room is
very clean, bright, comfortable, private and quiet yet he can summon help very quickly. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and safe. My Father feels he belongs there, he also feels safe which is good for him and good for us. Whenever there has been a problem the home has called us very promptly and see to it that meds and care is provided rapidly.

Merlin Court Care Home have cared for my uncle for the past six years until he sadly passed away quite recently. All aspects of his care have been excellent. All the staff are kind, respectful and caring. Always supportive and engaging with all the residents and family members. Palliative and end-of-life
care were done with the utmost sensitivity. Words cannot express our gratitude to all the staff for the fabulous care provided.
Thank you to all members of staff. Highly recommended.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.667)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.667) out of 10 for Merlin Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.667 for Merlin Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (91 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 336 Ratings = 4.667
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Merlin Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I am very cheerful and happy. I love to care for people and make sure they are getting the best they can out of later life. I love seeing the residents happy and doing activities with them.

My proudest achievement is working within the care sector for 34 years and still love working with residents.
