Milford House Care Home is a Salisbury residence originally built for the Earl of Ilchester, surrounded by scenic countryside and lovely gardens close to numerous local amenities, offering 24-hour nursing, respite, palliative and end of life care and where visitors and family members are welcome at all times.

The home has been extended and refurbished to provide a supportive and relaxing atmosphere which maximises the charm and character of the property whilst offering dedicated person centre nursing care.

Staff members are highly-qualified and passionate about the quality of care and support offered to each resident and all departments, care, catering, domestic, laundry and activities, work together to provide a friendly and homely environment that encourages each resident to pursue an active lifestyle and their own personal interests. This ethos of care is reflected by the home's recent CQC inspection, carried out in November 2020, where ratings of 'Good' were achieved across all the five key areas of inspection.

Very comfortable. Plenty of staff around who are very patient and cheerful.
My only concern is that messages don't always seem to get through.
Although my husband always wants to go home, I am happy leaving him in your care.

I loved the layout of the drawing room, super impressed with the staff. They came when needed and went beyond my expectations. I have a recommendation of having therapy dogs. I did see a few people that had stayed in one place all day, and I really think therapy dogs would get the patients up and moving,
providing mental and physical stimulation.
Reply from Marie Therese Tiernan, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your comments about our dedicated team and for your recommendation. We have in the past been lucky enough to have a therapy dog visit our residents and the visits were so well received and enjoyed. We would welcome anyone with a therapy dog to get in touch with us if visiting our residents is something they can offer.

Very welcoming clean and caring. For the two weeks respite my mother received the care I would give at home and I think she may have enjoyed her stay. (She has severe dementia and cannot talk) The staff got to know mum very quickly and for me, I know I can leave mum in this home and go away and not
worry. This is big for me as I am a nurse and worry.

All the staff, from the manager down, made my father's stay as welcoming as possible. After the initial settling in period, he began to feel at home and the carers got to know him. He developed a rapport with them. There was never any doubt my father was getting the best of attention. In his last few
days and when he passed away the girls couldn't have done any more for him and they were also very helpful to my partner and I.
I would certainly recommend Milford House.

My mother has been consistently well cared for since entering Milford House three years ago. If there have been any concerns during this time, they have generally related to the excessive heat in her room during hot summer weather, when perhaps it would have been more comfortable at times had the patio
door been opened. Please note that this is more the nature of an observation than a complaint. Otherwise, all Ok, except to note that mother gets far more out of the activities when it has been ensured that her hearing aid is present. The nurses and carers are particularly attentive and friendly, with this, contributes to my mother's contentment.
Reply from Berni, Customer Relationship Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeMay I take this opportunity to thank you for your kind words and observation, our team at Milford always work towards ensuring all our residents are well cared for. We have noted the heat in your Mother's room and will monitor this during the summer. We appreciate you taking the time to write the review. I arrived at Milford House straight from a stay in hospital, and found myself in a really lovely room for two week's convalescence.

The staff were so welcoming - I could not ask for more attention.

The daily menus provided a nice choice of food.

By the time I left, I felt so much better for

all the care I received.

My dad recently was transferred to Milford House from a hospital, in final stage cancer. From the moment he arrived, he was treated like a king. He had more care in 10 minutes in Milford House than he had had in the hospital for 5 weeks!! Dad was relaxed and relieved to feel safe and mum and all the
family were welcomed by the staff. It felt like home and we are so grateful this precious man got to live his final days surrounded by his family and care staff, who went above and beyond.
There are no words to say how grateful we are and I would have no doubt ever recommending this wonderful home.

My nan spent her last year in Milford House. In this year she was the happiest in a long time so we were able to enjoy quality time together. My mum spent a week in Milford House on respite in September and loved it. All the staff are so friendly. Mum's nights were the worst for her, being a poor sleeper
but staff brought her endless cups of decaf tea and chatted with her. Mum loved the varied food so much that she regained her appetite. Sadly Mum passed away in November in hospital having previously lived with dad in another care home, not of our choice. My dad moved to Milford House in December. He has improved so much since moving to Milford House, he has his sense of humour back, he loves his lovely room overlooking Salisbury Cathedral. It's lovely seeing him regain his appetite. I am so happy with Milford House, it's an amazing place and has amazing staff. I can't really thank you enough. They even look after me and make sure I'm alright!

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.671)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.671) out of 10 for Barchester Milford House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.671 for Barchester Milford House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (241 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 328 Ratings = 4.671
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Milford House Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Outside of work, Sally loves reading, learning how to crochet and travelling adventures, especially travelling across the world to meet up with her youngest son, who is living and working in Sydney, Australia.
