Milford House Care Home is a Salisbury residence originally built for the Earl of Ilchester, surrounded by scenic countryside and lovely gardens close to numerous local amenities, offering 24-hour nursing, respite, palliative and end of life care and where visitors and family members are welcome at all times.

The home has been extended and refurbished to provide a supportive and relaxing atmosphere which maximises the charm and character of the property whilst offering dedicated person centre nursing care.

Staff members are highly-qualified and passionate about the quality of care and support offered to each resident and all departments, care, catering, domestic, laundry and activities, work together to provide a friendly and homely environment that encourages each resident to pursue an active lifestyle and their own personal interests. This ethos of care is reflected by the home's recent CQC inspection, carried out in November 2020, where ratings of 'Good' were achieved across all the five key areas of inspection.

My mother was extremely worried about going into a care home for respite care. After a couple of days, she said "This is a really nice place to live". By the end of the week, she was calling it home and wanting to stay permanently. My mother is not the easiest of people to please, so a big thank you
to all the lovely staff who have made her feel welcome, cared for her needs without fussing and ensured she is happy and comfortable. I am very much relieved that she has been so happy and it is the most relaxed that I have seen my mother since my Dad died. Thank you so much.
Reply from Marie Therese Tiernan, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words. We are so delighted that your Mother's stay with us was a positive experience for all of you. I and all my staff think of Milford House as foremostly a home and I am so pleased that your experience reflected this.

Absolutely fabulous care - treated with respect and dignity at all times. Mum has nothing but praise for all the staff the food and the entertainment. The most important thing for us is we know she is safe and well cared for so even during Covid times we didn't worry unduly.

After living with increasing support at home, my mother moved into Milford House Care Home about a year and a half ago. During all that time, she has been suffering from Vascular Dementia and struggles to remember anything or to form meaningful sentences. Since moving into the home we have noticed how
happy she is. She loves being surrounded by people who are kind and look after her. There are wonderful activities which she thoroughly enjoys. Although she can't express this in her own words, we can see it in her eyes and members of staff tell us lovely stories of the ways she enjoys dancing with them. We can't thank Milford House enough.
Reply from Marie Therese Tiernan, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your kind words and for sharing your mother with us. It's wonderful that your mother is happy and settled at Milford House.

My friend went into the Barchester Milford House Care Home 18 months ago because of incapacity and unable to manage at home even with community care. Everyone at the home was so kind and helpful to special needs. Her room was nicely decorated and with lovely views across the fields. I was able to book
and have lunch with her before the restrictions of Covid. She has recently passed away and was treated with dignity, we will all miss her bright smiley face.

My husband was admitted to Milford House recently and my children and I have been very pleased with the level of care he is receiving. I can trust the staff to give him just the right amount of medication to control pain without making him too drowsy.

My brief convalescence at Barchester Milford House achieved everything I had hoped for.
Everybody I met seemed cheerful and unfailingly helpful in getting me back on my feet.
Although I understand the reason for it, 5.30 was three hours too early for the last meal of the day but retaining the bun
from afternoon tea and the dessert from supper until later saw me through.
Reply from Marie Therese Tiernan, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeVery glad your short stay was successful for your rehab. Note taken regarding mealtimes. We do offer a light cold supper later in the evening. Apologies that this was not communicated to you. Thank you for staying with us and for your feedback.

A pleasant room overlooking a courtyard garden with doors to the garden. Comfortable and clean. Nursing care very good and carers well trained and helpful. Laundry service much appreciated. The food varies not exciting but adequate. More fresh fruit needed but available on request. Impressed by excellent
management. Friendly and caring staff would book again if needed.

Even though due to coronavirus I cannot visit my mother in her room, I can tell on our outdoor visits that she is looking healthy and well cared for. If ever I have any questions or concerns, they are addressed promptly and courteously. All the staff I have ever met have been friendly, helpful and very
professional. I have always been made to feel very welcome.

I have been quite happy here. The staff are friendly. I have a nice room overlooking the garden. A bit noisy at night - but I knew that when I took the room.
I am only here for 3 weeks respite - but I would be happy to stay longer if I had to.
All the carers are very happy which is good to see!

Mum needed nursing home care and was admitted in March just prior to the nationwide lock-down. The worst possible time to go into "care" where she could have felt abandoned by family and friends. However, Barchester Milford House staff have been wonderful throughout the whole pandemic keeping families
informed. Skype calls were offered, which for my 91-year-old mother was an experience. However, she was well supported through these and enjoyed having a chat. We have subsequently visited on 1 July under strict guidance (absolutely necessary) and my daughter and I were so pleased to see my mother looking well and very happy. I feel I could not have chosen a better home for my mother. Thank you to all the staff who have worked so hard during these recent months.
Reply from Marie Therese Tiernan, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you so much for your kind comments which I will ensure get passed on to all our staff members. We have worked really hard to keep all our residents and their families and friends in touch and it is really rewarding to hear that your mother enjoyed the new experience. Like you, we are all delighted that we are now able to facilitate visits - albeit outside and under strict guidance - and it has been wonderful to see families re-united although socially distanced.

My father is very well looked after in Milford House. He was with my mother until she passed away in April 2020. Dad was escorted to the funeral of Mum and was and still is well looked after. They were both very happy from 2015-2020 in the home. Dad is still very well looked after. Thank you to all
staff in this difficult time.

My parents (both aged 89) moved into Milford House together in December 2019. Although there were no double rooms available, the manager was very helpful and arranged two adjacent rooms for them. These were set up as a living room and a bedroom so that Mum and Dad could sleep in the same room together.
Recently, during the COVID-19 lockdown, they have moved into two larger next-door rooms, which they tell me they are even happier with.
The care my parents have received over the last 6-months has been exemplary. They both have chronic health conditions which made staying in their own home untenable, even with care from me and daily visits from carers. Neither of them was at all happy about moving into a care home, but they have settled very well at Milford House which is testament to the high standard of care they have received there from all of the staff. I feel at ease now knowing my parents are safe and well cared for at Milford House.
Reply from Marie Therese Tiernan, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you so much for sharing your parents with us at Milford House. We are very proud of the care we provide and it is lovely for that to be reflected in your thoughtful comments.

We have always been impressed with the standard of care provided by Milford House. The home always has a warm and friendly atmosphere, the staff go above and beyond what would be expected. During this Coronavirus crisis, it is comforting to know that my brother-in-law is being so well looked after

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.719)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.719) out of 10 for Barchester Milford House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.719 for Barchester Milford House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (241 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 306 Ratings = 4.719
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Milford House Care Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
