After four turbulent weeks between wards in the wonderful hospital, my grandma came to Barchester Milford House Care Home for end-of-life care. The last weeks of her 97 years were dignified and peaceful. The manager and all her team could not do enough for us at all hours of the day and night. Grandma
was afforded excellent nursing care in the quiet and comfort of a five-star hotel. A tremendous thank you to all and I felt such a connection to them, I asked if I could volunteer there.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeFirstly, please accept our condolences for your loss but thank you so much for taking the time to let us know your experience of Milford House. I am so pleased that you felt that we were able to make a difference and provide the support and care that your grandmother needed in her final weeks. It was our privilege to be able to care for her and I will pass on your kind words to the the whole care team. When you feel able, we will look forward to you coming to the home to volunteer. Kind regards.

My stepmother moved here in Autumn 2019 and has been very well cared for - treated with respect, cheerful friendliness and kindness. She felt part of the community of residents and staff. She became very unwell and received end-of-life care at home which helped give her peace. I am very grateful to
the team for their care.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeFrom all the Milford team please accept our condolences on the loss of your stepmother. It was our privilege to care for her over the last 5 years and it is so nice to hear that she felt such a part of our community which is what we strive for, and is part of what I feel makes Milford special. I will pass on your kind comments to the teams in the home as it will mean a lot to them. Kind regards

Management was very pleasant. Some carers were very poor in their attitude and not understanding of the situation.
I thought that the food was poor quality and didn't enjoy the meals.
The day trip on a boat was most enjoyable.
Overall, it turned out to be a not very enjoyable but expensive two weeks.
Reply from Feedback Team, The Feedback Team at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThanks for your review. We're disappointed to read some of your comments in relation to our Milford House Care Home. My friend experienced nothing but kindness and respect during his last few weeks of life when he came to Barchester Milford House Care Home. It was a relief to see him visibly happy and he was able to trust those who were caring for him. As visitors, we were very impressed. A tranquil confidence exuded
each time we visited my friend.
Thank you for helping him to end his life in peace and with dignity.

One cannot expect perfection as we who have been asked to make the judgements have good days and bad days. Routines get disturbed. However, my 90th birthday last week showed up the loving, inspired party planner's skills; getting to know me, what and why I love the birds, flowers and butterflies to
decorate the dining table making it worthy of the delicious meals the chefs create. The festive air brought out happy greetings from those coming and going on daily rounds. No better care home is there.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you so much for sharing your experience of Milford House with us and we are so pleased that your birthday party was such a success. We were honoured to be able to play a part in making the day special for you and your guests. Thank you for being so positive about our home. There is always room for improvement and we all strive very hard to improve our standards continuously.

My mother had requested a bird-themed table setting for her 90th birthday party. Milford House Care Home surpassed all expectations - providing a log from one carer's garden that was decorated with little bird figures, including a nut hatch and a woodpecker. It was truly delightful and quite beautiful.
They were so kind towards her and I think have made one person extremely happy and created amazing memories of a blessed day. Thank you.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your kind words which I will pass on to the team. I'd like to relay my thanks to the activities team for inviting me to a special Father's Day lunch.
It was a lovely idea, in a relaxed setting, with wine and table decorations.
The team are always looking for new activities that are suitable for the residents, including outings.

Thanks for organising a Father's Day lunch. A really nice idea as it is sometimes hard to take Dad out for a meal. Also, nice to get some of the male residents together for a change.
Perhaps something could be done to get them together to watch some matches in the Euros too (ladies also invited!)
Please
do it again.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your review. It's great to hear that you and your dad enjoyed this special event. We are all looking forward to watching some matches in the Euros and the England game was on yesterday at Milford House where all of us supported the team. Our activity team provide a range of outstanding events and we are planning more and more great things in the coming months which I'm sure everyone will enjoy!

My friend was very reluctant and apprehensive about having to go into a care home. When his circumstances changed and he moved into Milford House Care Home, he soon settled in and is now extremely happy to be living there. He is very well looked after and enjoys the delicious food they provide. All
the staff are warm, friendly and very helpful. There is a lovely family atmosphere in the home. I can't praise them enough, especially the manager, for the wonderful work they do.

My sister and I were extremely emotional when our 90-year-old mother was deemed unsafe to be at home, due to her frailty and dementia. Barchester Milford House Care Home has dispelled all of our worries. All of the staff are so kind and caring and we thank them all. Also, our thanks to the manager for
working so hard to secure a place for Mum. We could not be happier with Milford House, a safe and secure environment with a happy atmosphere.

Overall, good. I was welcomed and cared for as needed, not that I needed much except for helping me shower and dispense medicines. My partner had the luxury of two weeks without having to care for me, which was well worth the expense.
The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful.
A few details:
1)
I was a bit disappointed in the 'institutional-style' food. I realise that you are constrained here by the needs of some of the residents. It was disappointing not to have any form of dressing for the salads - surely a sachet of vinaigrette or mayonnaise could be provided. 'Unimaginative' would be my description.
2) I felt that the management side was a bit weak. I'd asked when arriving if a visit from a chiropodist to cut my toenails could be arranged. I was told it would be, but nothing happened.
3) I got the impression that you are understaffed, not helped by the kitchen refurbishment.
4) The housekeeping was a bit chaotic: dirty towels left on the toilet floor weren't cleared away.
Reply from Gemma Hicks, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you so much for your feedback as it helps us to understand how and where we need to improve. I am pleased to hear that you were warmly welcomed and felt that overall the time you spent with us was worthwhile. However, there were clearly aspects that could have been improved upon and I can only apologise that you did not get your chiropodist appointment. I will be highlighting your comments to the relevant teams within the home so that we can work on making adjustments so that we can provide the best possible service.

I recently supported a friend who was visiting their mum at Milford House and while it wasn't my family member, I would absolutely use their service should I ever need to. I thought the staff were exceptionally friendly, warm and respectful with their patients to make them as happy and comfortable as
possible. I feel like they cared deeply about the patient's well-being. They also had activities going on the same which the patients were really excited about and absolutely engaged by. The building and environment as a whole are welcoming and felt like it was a really safe space - the food looked pretty good too!
5 stars!

My husband has been a Milford House user since leaving the Spinal Unit in 2010. At first, he was there for 6 months while I had a property converted for his needs and then a respite user.
His needs altered in 2018 and I became unable to care for him at home, and he was admitted to Milford House on
a permanent basis. The staff have been kind and supportive to him and me since then and have nurtured him back to better health, and he is happy to stay there.
This year the staff supported him in arranging a (surprise) proposal on Valentine's Day, even helping him obtain an engagement ring, and also assisted him, and attended, our wedding in July on his 70th birthday.
The staff make us feel part of a large family and I am so glad we were able to find such a fantastic place for him to stay.
Reply from Gemma Hicks, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your lovely feedback which is much appreciated. I visited a friend at Milford House last weekend and I must say how impressed I was. There was a lovely, homely atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the care my friend received was wonderful. We spent some time looking at their current art exhibition and what joy that has given to the residents,
friends and family of the home. It certainly is a unique concept to have the exhibition on the doorstep. It has been a real talking point with my friends in the women's institute back home.
My friend says that the 3-course meals at lunchtime are of a high standard and there is a varied menu each day. It is just like being in a restaurant.
Reply from Gemma Hicks, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeYour comments are much appreciated and we are so delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the art exhibition. Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.671)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.671) out of 10 for Barchester Milford House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.671 for Barchester Milford House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (241 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 328 Ratings = 4.671
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Milford House Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
