Milford House Care Home is a Salisbury residence originally built for the Earl of Ilchester, surrounded by scenic countryside and lovely gardens close to numerous local amenities, offering 24-hour nursing, respite, palliative and end of life care and where visitors and family members are welcome at all times.

The home has been extended and refurbished to provide a supportive and relaxing atmosphere which maximises the charm and character of the property whilst offering dedicated person centre nursing care.

Staff members are highly-qualified and passionate about the quality of care and support offered to each resident and all departments, care, catering, domestic, laundry and activities, work together to provide a friendly and homely environment that encourages each resident to pursue an active lifestyle and their own personal interests. This ethos of care is reflected by the home's recent CQC inspection, carried out in November 2020, where ratings of 'Good' were achieved across all the five key areas of inspection.

My mother had requested a bird-themed table setting for her 90th birthday party. Milford House Care Home surpassed all expectations - providing a log from one carer's garden that was decorated with little bird figures, including a nut hatch and a woodpecker. It was truly delightful and quite beautiful.
They were so kind towards her and I think have made one person extremely happy and created amazing memories of a blessed day. Thank you.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your kind words which I will pass on to the team. We were so delighted to be able to contribute towards your special celebrations, and it is lovely to know that what we did went towards making the day even more memorable.

I'd like to relay my thanks to the activities team for inviting me to a special Father's Day lunch.
It was a lovely idea, in a relaxed setting, with wine and table decorations.
The team are always looking for new activities that are suitable for the residents, including outings.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeI am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the lunch and will pass on your kind comments to the activity team. We work very hard at Milford House to create a varied activity programme that caters to a wide range of interests and particularly try to put on activities and events that involve family and friends who are always welcome to attend any activities that we have scheduled.

Thanks for organising a Father's Day lunch. A really nice idea as it is sometimes hard to take Dad out for a meal. Also, nice to get some of the male residents together for a change.
Perhaps something could be done to get them together to watch some matches in the Euros too (ladies also invited!)
Please
do it again.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your review. It's great to hear that you and your dad enjoyed this special event. We are all looking forward to watching some matches in the Euros and the England game was on yesterday at Milford House where all of us supported the team. Our activity team provide a range of outstanding events and we are planning more and more great things in the coming months which I'm sure everyone will enjoy!

My friend was very reluctant and apprehensive about having to go into a care home. When his circumstances changed and he moved into Milford House Care Home, he soon settled in and is now extremely happy to be living there. He is very well looked after and enjoys the delicious food they provide. All
the staff are warm, friendly and very helpful. There is a lovely family atmosphere in the home. I can't praise them enough, especially the manager, for the wonderful work they do.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the wonderful staff at Milford House Nursing Home. Dad was a resident for just over 2 years. The staff worked with Dad and saw his personality which allowed him to feel comfortable and safe, such a gift for his family. Special thanks to the activity
team for the outings that Dad so enjoyed and gave meaning to his life. Also thank you for the love, care and compassion shown to all the family.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are really sorry for the loss of your Dad, our sincere condolences to your family. I am so glad you and your Dad had these experiences. Everyone will be delighted to read your feedback, thank you. With my best wishes to you and your family, Aga.

My sister and I were extremely emotional when our 90-year-old mother was deemed unsafe to be at home, due to her frailty and dementia. Barchester Milford House Care Home has dispelled all of our worries. All of the staff are so kind and caring and we thank them all. Also, our thanks to the manager for
working so hard to secure a place for Mum. We could not be happier with Milford House, a safe and secure environment with a happy atmosphere.
Reply from Aga Musial, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your kind words, bringing a loved one to a care home can be a worrying and daunting prospect and we are so pleased that it has worked out for your mum. I will pass on your comments to our home teams as well as the care that we give is always a team effort.

Overall, good. I was welcomed and cared for as needed, not that I needed much except for helping me shower and dispense medicines. My partner had the luxury of two weeks without having to care for me, which was well worth the expense.
The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful.
A few details:
1)
I was a bit disappointed in the 'institutional-style' food. I realise that you are constrained here by the needs of some of the residents. It was disappointing not to have any form of dressing for the salads - surely a sachet of vinaigrette or mayonnaise could be provided. 'Unimaginative' would be my description.
2) I felt that the management side was a bit weak. I'd asked when arriving if a visit from a chiropodist to cut my toenails could be arranged. I was told it would be, but nothing happened.
3) I got the impression that you are understaffed, not helped by the kitchen refurbishment.
4) The housekeeping was a bit chaotic: dirty towels left on the toilet floor weren't cleared away.
Reply from Gemma Hicks, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you so much for your feedback as it helps us to understand how and where we need to improve. I am pleased to hear that you were warmly welcomed and felt that overall the time you spent with us was worthwhile. However, there were clearly aspects that could have been improved upon and I can only apologise that you did not get your chiropodist appointment. I will be highlighting your comments to the relevant teams within the home so that we can work on making adjustments so that we can provide the best possible service.

My mother went to Milford House for two weeks of respite.
Initially, she did not like it, but by the end of her stay, she did not want to go home.
The staff were all lovely and made my mother's stay really super.

I recently supported a friend who was visiting their mum at Milford House and while it wasn't my family member, I would absolutely use their service should I ever need to. I thought the staff were exceptionally friendly, warm and respectful with their patients to make them as happy and comfortable as
possible. I feel like they cared deeply about the patient's well-being. They also had activities going on the same which the patients were really excited about and absolutely engaged by. The building and environment as a whole are welcoming and felt like it was a really safe space - the food looked pretty good too!
5 stars!

My husband has been a Milford House user since leaving the Spinal Unit in 2010. At first, he was there for 6 months while I had a property converted for his needs and then a respite user.
His needs altered in 2018 and I became unable to care for him at home, and he was admitted to Milford House on
a permanent basis. The staff have been kind and supportive to him and me since then and have nurtured him back to better health, and he is happy to stay there.
This year the staff supported him in arranging a (surprise) proposal on Valentine's Day, even helping him obtain an engagement ring, and also assisted him, and attended, our wedding in July on his 70th birthday.
The staff make us feel part of a large family and I am so glad we were able to find such a fantastic place for him to stay.
Reply from Gemma Hicks, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeThank you for your lovely feedback which is much appreciated. We have been so fortunate to be able to assist and be part of the special events you have shared this year - everyone at the home so enjoyed hearing about them and being part of the celebrations - they gave everyone such a boost to be able to share in your joy.

I visited a friend at Milford House last weekend and I must say how impressed I was. There was a lovely, homely atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the care my friend received was wonderful. We spent some time looking at their current art exhibition and what joy that has given to the residents,
friends and family of the home. It certainly is a unique concept to have the exhibition on the doorstep. It has been a real talking point with my friends in the women's institute back home.
My friend says that the 3-course meals at lunchtime are of a high standard and there is a varied menu each day. It is just like being in a restaurant.
Reply from Gemma Hicks, General Manager at Barchester Milford House Care HomeYour comments are much appreciated and we are so delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the art exhibition. This is something new for us at the home and it was such a success that we are hosting another group of artists early in the new year so hopefully you will be able to enjoy this when you come again.

Friendly and caring staff. Since being in the Milfdor House as a resident, my mother has only undertaken planned hospital visits. Previously, she spent 23 out of 26 weeks in and out of the hospital for various ailments. This illuminates for me the impact of 24-hour nursing care along with 24-hour live-in
care.

I was impressed by the management of Milford, her experience, commitment and high standards. Some of her staff have been here for a considerable length of time.
Cleanliness is very good and genuine practical support from the carers. Catering was varied with choices and well cooked.
All this strengthened
me and I would certainly recommend Milford to anyone.
A very minor point, if Grapefruit is on the daily breakfast menu please provide it. How about a physical exercise room for some who need it.

I cannot praise the staff highly enough the manager and her team for the wonderful, outstanding, support, kindness and commitment they showed my family and I whilst my Auntie was a palliative care patient at Milford House. We feel extremely fortunate that we chose Milford House and that my aunt found
comfort and contentment for much longer than initially thought. We are convinced this was a result of the wonderful care she received there. We will always feel indebted to all the wonderful staff at Milford House. Thank you all.

A positive experience during what was a trying and difficult time for all concerned. The care afforded to my mother could not have been more empathetic, professional or thorough. My mother entered the home suffering, in addition to Alzheimer’s, acute anxiety and depression. The latter two symptoms
were addressed and managed expeditiously. Staff were open and frank with me over all aspects of my mother’s care and devoted considerable time and resources to make her feel safe, comfortable and respected.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.719)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.719) out of 10 for Barchester Milford House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.719 for Barchester Milford House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (241 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 306 Ratings = 4.719
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Milford House Care Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
