A wonderful care home. The staff and whole team are amazing and supportive, always showing care and compassion to residents and visitors alike. They are incredibly welcoming and the home is always clean and well presented. The home has no odour or mess, unlike other homes I've visited. An incredibly lovely place!

After looking after my Mother for a few years I found it becoming very difficult, she refused any treatment and help from carers and nurses. I would wake with a dread of what the day would bring. The first day in St Giles I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. The nurses and carers were wonderful, like a home from home, so pleasant and caring. A big thank you to all staff at St Giles.

Dad came here from another care home after becoming very ill with dementia and cancer. He was assessed and has been catered for by the nursing and care staff.
We cannot fault them! Every single member of the team has been truly wonderful. They just care. They smile at patients and visitors in equal measure. One member of staff runs a very tight ship. You can feel the organisation is led with warmth and tenderness.
Every day we visit Dad, his wife, although not a resident, visits regularly, and they make her so welcome. This is so helpful, thoughtful and perfectly human. My faith in humanity has been restored. It is a difficult job - no two patients are the same; however, when you see how easily the staff move from one patient to the next, you are filled with respect and awe.

The lady in well-being stretches out her arms to all; she will know if you're feeling down and do her best to pick you back up. She's so kind to the patients. All the staff are professional with patience and diligence.

St Giles offers the best care. I love the professional yet friendly staff and how they manage to provide such a family, friendly environment. I always feel as though I'm visiting Mom at a friend's house, not a care home, and that is 100% due to the staff, whether they are admin, carers or nurses - each and every one of them are amazing.

Dad was admitted to St Giles to spend his final months of life. All staff that had contact with Dad were caring, compassionate and truly amazing people who clearly love the work they do. Communication from management could and should be better; at times, it did feel like the family were left out in the cold.

We are delighted with the overall experience of our regular visit to my mother. The rooms are good in size.

We know my mother is very restricted in movement; however, perhaps she could be encouraged more to leave her room and enjoys the lounge, library and dining room.

Feeling that staff are stretched and are not able to give residents the 100% service that they would like to provide.

Communication with the home could be better. Difficult to get any kind of information. Not transparent.

As a long-term resident, my father received very good care at this home, and the staff didn't just care for him but for my elderly mother too, who visited over many years. I know that the staff really knew my father well and understood his needs. Senior care staff are highly skilled and knowledgable about their resident's medical and emotional needs. I can only thank all staff, carers, cleaners and activity leaders for their love and kindness to my father.

My mother has been in St Giles since May. Unfortunately, she has dementia, and it's very hard leaving her. I am so grateful for the lovely care she receives from the nurse on the 2nd floor; she really does give me peace of mind knowing my mother is in good hands when she is on.

Our sister was 90 in July, and none of the family could visit, so the manager of St Giles did a fantastic surprise for her with a great cake, balloons and a lovely tea. We thought it was wonderful that they took all that trouble to make her day special. We, as a family, cannot praise the care that they are giving enough. Thank you all.

My aunt was sent to St Giles from the hospital in April 2020 having suffered a stroke at home in March 2020. Obviously, very strict Covid restrictions were in place at the time of her admittance. The staff did their best under the circumstances to engage with us and to give my aunt all the support she needed. Now with the restrictions fully lifted, we are able to visit and communicate with my aunt, and the staff and my aunt is able to get involved in all the activities and events run in the home. My aunt has gone from strength to strength, and it has given her a new lease of life.

Overall Experience
My mom was a resident of St Giles from June 2020 until March 2022 when we sadly lost her. We had an incredibly difficult journey at times because of Covid and the enforced restrictions on visiting. But during this journey, the whole team looked after Mom as if she was their own - stepping in for us and giving her all the love and attention she so deserved when we couldn’t. Thanks to the well-being team who helped Mom keep in touch with all of her family, she never forgot who we were and always knew she was still a very big part of our lives, even though we couldn’t visit her.

Since the management change in December, this home has gone from strength to strength. She is always happy to speak to you about any issues you may have and acts promptly if needed. When Mom was approaching her final days, she treated Mom, and us, with such compassion and dignity, as did all the team, and we will never forget this. It made a very painful time slightly more bearable.

The staff cared for my grandmother, and she was happy in their care. She told me the staff were very kind to her. She was always well looked after, clean and tidy. My grandmother and our family were treated with dignity and respect in her final days. My grandmother had her 100th birthday during the pandemic, the staff were amazing, testing us all and allowing us to see her outside to celebrate with her while keeping her and other residents safe. I must stress they did not allow us on the premises to keep all residents safe but still allowed us to celebrate her amazing milestone with a tea party.

Reply from Faye Gailey, Home Manager at St Giles Care Home - Avery Healthcare
