This review relates to my 88-year-old uncle who has now been resident at St Giles for 12 months. He was living alone and was unable to care for himself. Having looked around the area for a suitable home, we found right from the start the management and staff were approachable and helpful, and the home itself appeared to have a happy atmosphere. I feel we could not have made a better choice. Right from day one he was well looked after and cared for by all of the staff and management team. Understandably it took him a while to settle in, but now he is like one of the family, contented, well-fed, happy and so well looked after. He takes part in the activities that are organised on a daily basis (there is always something going on). With the Covid-19 situation that is ongoing, the home were quick to identify the seriousness of the situation and straightaway went into lockdown in order to safely protect the residents. I cannot thank the staff enough for the care they give him.

St Giles has a wonderful, warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff are outstanding and since my dad joined them, have really given him a fantastic quality of life despite his ill health. St Giles has really changed my opinion of care homes and the reputation they have.

My mother is treated with respect, compassion, courtesy by management, carers, and indeed all the staff at St Giles. She is fully compos mentis and engages with everyone. The care she has received during the current coronavirus pandemic has been excellent and is much appreciated by my mother and all her family.

My grandad lives at St Giles and has been there for about 3 months, I can’t say enough about the team there. My grandad is the happiest he has been for a while, the residents are well looked after, the staff always willing to help, he is spoilt with attention. The managers always come to say hello and speak to him, I wasn’t sure about a care home at first because of horror stories in the news but was the best decision we could have made, keep up the good work St Giles.

Very disappointing. Room was shabby and definitely not as advertised.

Management had a very negative attitude to minor reasonable requests.

Just small, but "every day" features we would like to thank you for; to list three things, among many others.

1. The wine glasses on each dining table.
2. The large 'Menu' board on the dining room wall.

3. Most importantly, residents and staff were totally unhurried over finishing breakfast, chatting and having another drink.

And that this felt like a hotel and was a pleasant place to spend time with our loved Auntie.

My mum has been a resident of St Giles for over 12mths now. The managers are brilliant, so approachable and will go out of their way to help us. Mum is treated with the utmost respect and dignity by all the staff who may I say are so kind and work so hard to provide the best care they can, I can live my life content and happy knowing that my mum is being given such wonderful care whilst I’m not able too due to work commitments. They do lovely personal things like birthdays, Xmas, always make mum feel special, we had a fabulous day out to Weston this month and the staff worked so hard to give the residents a day to remember. It’s the personal touch you wouldn’t find in many care homes. Thank you all so very much.

Don't be fooled by the brochure. This place is disgusting. My mother came to this home today, for respite from Solihull Hospital, having suffered a stroke. She was found by my sister, just dumped on an unmade bed, with no pillows and no water or food offered. My sister went straight to matrons office to ask why and was told it's down to the staff, no, the buck stops with the matron, why didn't she check that everything was OK when my mother arrived, or is a meet and greet beneath her? There's no TV, as advertised in the brochure, so my mom was just lying on her unmade bed staring into space! When my sister left my mom was in tears. Is this how they treat their residents? Perhaps social services will need to get involved or an unexpected visit from CQC?

Beyond disappointing experience - no greeting or formal introductions for my 89-year-old mother. She was allocated a room with a cracked, leaking toilet and was left to walk in socks (she could not wear slippers as feet bandit swollen) like this for 3 days. I gave up and took her home. We were told no one could repair it till the Monday - she arrived Friday! So unwelcoming and not very caring! My complaint not yet addressed - very very disappointed.

It is a lovely caring place the staff are so friendly and have a lot of time for the residents, and do a lot of fun activities with them and get them all to join in.

Could not fault the care home.

Mom is cared for with lots of respect and is very happy with the standard of care she gets. Sometimes it can get busy but they always explain and then come and help Mom. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Always something going on to keep Mom busy. Most importantly, Mom feels safe and happy.

All the staff including Carers, Nurses, Reception, Manager showed compassion, empathy and humanity towards my mother and our family. We were all amazed by this because we had post care at my mother's previous home.

They could not do enough for my mother and our family- we all felt very much at home. We cannot thank them enough. St Giles have a very special team of staff that will be hard to find anywhere else.

When my husband came to reside here, I was a bit unsure about the place. My husband took a while to settle in. Over the last few weeks, things are a lot better. I have come to understand the workings of the home and how hard the staff work, and their dedication. If I had any doubts before, I don't now. Well done everyone involved. Full marks!

I'm disappointed in this care home. My dad stayed for a while after a stroke and was often not looked after correctly. He had a fall the first night, was given drinks without thickener and stodgy food when on a pureed diet. His room was left for days without being cleaned.

The last few days he was there being the worst; with his bed not changed, floor not vacuumed, bins not emptied, urine and wet tissue all over the bathroom floor with dirty pads piled up.

I'm grateful to the few that did their job correctly but cleaning standards are low.
