St.Giles care home is a really lovely place decorated beautifully. The level of Care is 2nd to none. The staff are amazing with the residence and families are like.

I've seen firsthand how the resident are included in normal day-to-day activities like Christmas birthday parties Easter and even football. The Care team work extremely hard I have witnessed and are very kind and calming to the resident.

Really welcoming home. Staff always stop to say hello. Non-family members who visit always comment on this. Carers go the extra mile. We said we would never place mom (or dad) in a home but due to circumstances had to. Mom feels safe and secure in her room. Any little problems that may arise are always dealt with. Always feel a little sorry for carers as they work so hard and as with all care home, more staff would be ideal but the carers always remain cheerful and couldn'y be more kind and caring.

We are very happy with Dad's Care. The Staff at St Giles are exceptional, especially the entertainment team. There's plenty for Dad to do (if he wants to).

Bathroom floor needs to be cleaned more often as very wee stained and smells often, otherwise room lovely!

Overall Experience
My uncle Ron stayed at St Giles for two weeks respite care. The staff at the home looked after him really well, they were always caring and kind and I felt confident that he was being well cared for. The events coordinator (I can't remember her name but she has a northern accent) was brilliant with the residents and had such a warm and bubbly personality that she was perfect for that role.
Staff were very kind when 4 family members visited and they found a quiet private room for us to sit with Ron. I didn't ask for this, they just offered.
There were lots of events going on and staff were regularly taken out on day trips.

My uncle had recently been told that he had to go into a care home as he could no longer safely stay home. I was determined that he should return to St Giles, rather than go anywhere else, as I know he would have been well cared for. Unfortunately he passed away before this could happen. I would definitely recommend St Giles.

Review from D D (Wife of Resident) published on 28 February 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
The staff are amazing going the extra mile, they really do care for the residents. The lower floor with fewer Dementia residents has a lot more daily activity. Unfortunately the upper floor, mainly Dementia residents spend most time sat in front of the television, shouting out of boredom. Dementia patients need daily activities, stimulation, comfort, kind reassurance. They don't like being alone, there's need for 1 staff member in daily attendance.
The food is in great need of improvement, so much waste, tasteless dry and rarely fresh greens. I have asked on numerous occasions for gravy or sauce, this falls on deaf ears. Carrots and potatoes hard (most of the residents have very few teeth). Mashed cheese and potatoes, surely an easy option. I requested again numerous times for custard with bananas or any fruit that can be mashed, again no.

The rooms have little space for special equipment, ie. sling and tilt chairs. Excellent care home but lacking in the Dementia department.

Didn't know what to expect as I had heard so many bad things about care homes, to say I was surprised was an understatement. First thing I noticed was the pleasant smell as I entered, the lady on reception was welcoming and friendly and all staff I met throughout my visit were so polite and helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them. The home is bright and clean, bedrooms are standard but again clean. Resident were sat chatting and all looked happy and content.
My friend tells me how good the staff are and how well they care for her, I'm so happy she feels safe and happy here.

St Giles Care Home has changed my view on care homes. You have a great team. I appreciate everything you do.

Recently after a very difficult decision, we moved our mother into a care home and we couldn't be happier with the smooth transition and welcome mom has received from St Giles. The home is lovely and clean and very well presented. Everyone is so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The care she receives is very attentive, dignified, and friendly. Already they have noted Mom's needs and are acting accordingly to make her as happy, stimulated, and in the best environment for her. The care home has made such a stressful decision for the family effortless. I really love visiting and being part of her new little family.

My mum initially came for respite but was so well looked after, respected and cared for accepted a long-term placement. Her mobility is very poor and wouldn't have been safe to return home. The food is excellent. My mum loves all the staff and even remembers some of their names! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff including management for both my mum and the family. I am secure in her care and feel so relieved to have found a suitable place. It is her home now. Thank you.

My father has only been a resident for a month, during this time we can not fault anything, more than happy with the care he is receiving. The home is immaculate. All the staff we have met, regardless of their positions within the home, are friendly, helpful, and polite. Always greeted with a hello/morning and a smile. What more could anyone wish for?

Dad loves being there. We find the staff very pleasant and accommodating.

The only bug bear is the loss of clothing and blankets which are all labelled. Sometimes he's left very late for his lunch due to him only wanting sandwiches.
