Mum has Dementia and prior to her admittance to Newstead House Nursing and Residential Home in January 21 she was very lonely (partly due to Covid 19), extremely anxious and stressed.
It was a huge decision to make but we have never looked back! Mum’s health and wellbeing has been restored, she participates in all the daily activities which are both well planned and stimulating. She has been able to retain her independence and enjoy the freedom of the outdoors and looks the picture of health.
The photographs online speak a thousand words, as we can see in that moment Mum really enjoying herself and always has the biggest smile. This is so reassuring for my family to see Mum so happy and healthy.
The outcome for Mum would not have been possible without the care, compassion and dedication of the management and staff at Newstead. I really can’t thank them enough.

Finally, when I mention the meals at Newstead Mum always says “they’re good”!

My mother went into Newstead House when her Dementia became too severe for my father to look after her at home. As they did not want to be separated, the Home was able to offer them a lovely double room until my father died 18 months ago. My mother then moved into a single room but was still able to have her personal possessions around her. The care shown by the staff was outstanding, even taking my mother to visit my father in hospital when he broke his hip. When my mother became bedbound, she was still kept clean and tidy with the respect we would all hope for. In her final hours, I was constantly kept updated, as I live quite a distance away and a priest was called to administer the Last Rites, as she would have wanted. I cannot praise the care given too highly!

Our relationship with Newstead House began 7 years ago when my father, by then in his 90's with Parkinson's disease and other age-related health issues, needed 24-hour care and nursing support. From the outset, Newstead was like home from home. My father received the very best of care but more importantly the respect of all concerned. This extended to family members and when visiting (which was never, before Covid, restricted to certain times) the same friendly, approachable but professional atmosphere prevailed. My mother, to whom Dad was married for more than 70 years, always felt reassured that, if she could no longer care for him, he was in the very best hands. So much so that when Dad passed away and she herself, by then aged 94, needed the same support, she had no hesitation in choosing to go to Newstead, where she felt most comfortable and she was given the same level of exceptional and loving care from everyone involved and I cannot thank the staff highly enough.

It took time for Mum to adapt to her new environment but with the professional care, sensitive and gentle encouragement, she has begun to settle. Mum loves the food and is constantly telling me how kind and friendly the staff are. The various activities have now begun again, after a break due to lockdown, and she takes part in the ones she likes. With the current situation thrust upon them, the staff at Newstead have taken (what some would consider) almost extreme measures to avoid Covid entering the care home and subsequently endangering the lives of so many vulnerable residents. Whilst my Mum cannot quite understand why she only gets to see me a couple of times a month, I assure her that it is for her safety as much as anyone and that nobody should be put at any kind of risk. I know that Newstead is the right place for Mum to be and, to all the wonderful staff there, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping my precious Mum as happy as possible but, most of all safe.

Over this difficult period covering the COVID-19 pandemic, Newstead House staff and management have been excellent. Heritage Manor stopped visits to their care home before the national requirement as they had identified the risks to their residents. This was carefully explained to relatives and offers of how to keep in touch were made. On enquiring about staff access to PPE and other support I was very reassured that they were fully committed to keeping both themselves and residents safe. Staff have been very understanding of relative’s anxieties and provided excellent care over this period. I know my mother is not only cared for very well but has been given the love and attention she needed while I have not been able to visit. My heartfelt thanks go to all the staff, there is no way to adequately thank them for their self-sacrifice in continuing to do their jobs.

My Mother lived at Newstead Nursing Home for a few months of this year and the care she received was outstanding. We’d like to make a special mention of the deputy manager who was extremely professional, compassionate, patient and thoughtful in her delivery of care to my mother. We’d definitely recommend this care home to any potential residents as it’s clean, comfortable, spacious and safe. Every member of staff was exceptional in their roles.

Difficult to find words to describe the home. The standards in all departments are of course excellent but it is that little extra that makes such a huge difference. Seeing the staff in action you realise that extra something is invariably there, it is many many small ways that the staff show their concern for their resident in a manner that seems completely natural to them. I do find it very difficult to highlight specifics because all aspects of Newstead must and do function as a unit and in doing so achieve their aim to provide a home for residents and long may that continue. Hats off to all Newstead staff.

I have visited a number of care homes over the years, in connection with finding a home for a close relative.
Out of many, I visited, I chose three which were all of an excellent standard in all aspects. So no complaints with them.

However, Newstead House is far superior to all others I had seen.

Personal view of care provider very positive. Both for residential and nursing provision. Senior and assistant nursing staff always friendly, polite and cooperative. Entertainment and activities organised weekly, also Summer Garden Fete in July and Christmas Carol Services in December. Very grateful for palliative nursing care on behalf of my aunt who died (aged 101) on 9th January 2020.

I have been a volunteer at Newstead House for a number of months now. It is a lovely home with friendly and professional staff.

It does not feel like a care home and it has a lovely atmosphere, very calm and peaceful. The residents are well cared for, and there is a lot of fun and laughter in the home. The home is well maintained, with some lovely communal spaces. I really enjoy my time at the home and look forward to visiting each week.

Since my next of kin was brought in on respite care, it has given myself and the family great peace of mind and also he is receiving the very best care he deserves which he was not receiving in the community. Professionalism and caring standards are very high. He has now decided to remain at Newstead for long term care.

When I visit, the staff make me feel so welcome. It is very pleasing to know my mum-in-law is in such a lovely warm and friendly place. She has told me the food is very good. My father-in-law was a resident here too for a while and he enjoyed his stay, being waited on and the company. He also enjoyed walking around the garden.

My mum was admitted after a long struggle with dementia, a very independent, private lady who fought against going into care, but medical conditions proved we had no choice but choose a suitable home for her.
Newstead was chosen and from the beginning mum settled in, the staff gaining her trust and respect. She ended her last months with us a contented lady who was looked after by a wonderful team.
The home is absolutely spotless, a lovely room with a view, set out on a long corridor which meant there was always somebody passing usually waving or checking people were ok, we always felt that if there was a problem someone would be at hand straight away. A great comfort after spending many years worrying if everything was ok with mum.
I have no idea how we would have managed without Newstead, their care for mum and us was outstanding, I can’t thank them enough. They truly are a wonderful team of nursing and caring people.

Thank you and well done Newstead House.
