In the dementia care suites, residents have access to sensory areas, reminiscence activities and memory boxes. With its own minibus, residents frequently get out and about on day trips to places of local interest.
The home is divided into small care suites with residents enjoying spacious en-suite rooms. Each suite also has its own lounge, dining facilities, updated lifestyle kitchen and care team ensuring that residents are cared for by the same familiar faces every day. Bowood Court recently opened The Queen Elizabeth Arms, a traditional pub complete with a beer garden, which is situated in the centre of the home, providing a social hub for residents and their loved ones to meet for a drink, watch sporting events or enjoy a game of dominoes.

They all had the ability to make her feel safe and happy, which was the most important thing to us. It meant when we visited we could relax and enjoy our time with her. It was the end of life care she received which really meant the most to us. The care, dignity and respect she was shown went above and beyond what we could have hoped for. They couldn't do enough for us either and our memories of what is the most difficult time are so special due to the way we were all treated. The care, love and support shown to mum during her last 6 months stay was truly outstanding. There is a genuine warmth throughout the whole team. It was an incredibly difficult decision for us to move mum into care due to her progressive dementia and frailty. Within weeks she was showing signs of improvement, and enjoying her life again. It was a pleasure to visit her, get to know her carers and other residents - you become part of a big family. Most importantly, mums end of life care was calm, peaceful, dignified and respectful. Both the day and night teams did their upmost to ensure that mum was as comfortable as possible. They also supported us with the same level of care. As mum left Bowood for the very last time, all the staff gathered to pay their respects - incredibly moving and a moment which will stay with my forever. My negative thoughts surrounding the upstairs areas are that it is in need of refurbishment. The carpets are in need of changing, carpets are dirty and sticky underfoot which, in turn, makes the surrounding area smell unpleasant. Also, the windows need cleaning inside and out which would make the areas look a little brighter too.

My husband has been in Bowood Court Care Home for two and a half years. Since day one, I have been relieved Bowood was chosen as the "caring" care he gets is second to none. Amazing and wonderful team of staff. All my husband's needs are met at all times. The whole atmosphere at Bowood is one of calm and empathy. This also extends to me as a relative. A "family" care home most certainly. All rooms are kept clean, also corridors etc. They deserve a gold star!

Negative reviews aren't great but it only feels right to do so considering the approach Bowood took towards care. After a short stay, we decided to relocate our Mom after weeks of trying to solve problems with no success. Ongoing dietary problems were never solved, a toileting routine was not established, and no incontinence referral was done. Mom became isolated fast even though we visited regularly as a family. Their approach was to blame us as we hadn't followed their communication pathway even though concerns were discussed with carers, senior carers, care manager, chef, and area manager. Mom went from being very and left to soil herself when needing the toilet. An awful smell got into every item of her clothing, we started taking clothes home to wash so at least she had the dignity of wearing fresh, clean clothes. Moving Mom was the best decision we've made both for us and definitely for her.
