My dad was transferred from an NHS hospital to Barchester Hollyfields Care Home for end-of-life care. I found that the staff were excellent and really did go the extra mile to make my dad's short life there as good as possible. They treated him with compassion and dignity. I walked in on many occasions to find that a member of staff was sat with him holding his hand and talking. They also gave support to me at a most difficult time.

My mother moved into Barchester Hollyfields Care Home, initially for respite care in April 2023. Although the move was stressful due to a sudden deterioration in my mother's condition the staff at Hollyfields made the experience much easier.
My mother is now a permanent resident at Hollyfields and is settled in her new home.

My mother receives excellent care. Her physical needs are met with care and consideration. The home environment is comfortable and stimulating. There are many activities provided which my mother enjoys. The staff are friendly, approachable and take care to keep me informed of my mother's welfare.

The bungalow where Dad stayed, Ivy House, was really like a home from home. I really felt the staff got to know Dad in the short time he was there and it was obvious from speaking to them that they had all had conversations with him. We could tell that he had been looked after as well as we would have done at home. We were more than pleased to have found such a lovely place as Barchester Hollyfields Care Home to provide respite care and are very grateful for everything that was done for him there. It is expensive but for us, the value was in knowing Dad was properly cared for. I can't comment on the food and drink or activities as Dad couldn't remember.

The nursing care at Hollyfields is really good and all staff seem caring and resident focussed and always willing to help.

Occasionally activities have to be postponed due to staff shortages, understandable but disappointing. The activities room still waiting to be changed to the hair salon as promised.

Reply from Coral Edwards, Regional Support Manager at Barchester Hollyfields Care Home

Thank you for your valued feedback. The hair salon was completed on 18th July and was in use by the barber on 20th July. The hairdresser is next at Hollyfields on the 8th August and is looking forward to using the new salon.

My experience has been very good. My only criticism would be that my friend has a special diet that is not catered for, she has food bought in and paid for by herself. I think she should be reimbursed for this as she does not use your ingredients.

I am so pleased by the way the staff have allowed my son to gradually settle into what is a life-changing situation. They have been caring and understanding and created a loving, safe, and secure atmosphere where he can enjoy privacy as well as lovely joyful company whoever is on duty. The staff all show a loving devotion and professional attitude and nothing seems a trouble to make certain that whatever the need they do their best to find a solution.
This a really happy place whenever I visit there's a lot of banter with staff and patients and my son enjoys the company this brings. The cat and dog at the home most days add to the patient's experience and the patients are encouraged to do as much as they feel well enough to do to add to their quality of life.

I have been to some care homes but this place is unique in what it can offer and such a comfort to know that what I cannot provide they do their utmost to compensate, I have nothing but praise.

Due to my living abroad, I'm only able to visit my mother every few months. On this visit, I've been delighted with the improvements and standards in the level of care received in all departments. My thanks to all the staff for their dedication and kindness towards my mother. Many go above and beyond in the care that they give.

I continue to be impressed by the standard of care that my mother is receiving. The staff are wonderful, so kind and caring and the attention to detail has improved vastly. The housekeeping staff are unsung heroes likewise the catering staff who manage to provide nutritious and appealing meals 7 days a week. My sister and I attended the Mother's Day lunch and it was delicious, we were treated like VIPs and Mom loved it. Thank you to everyone at Hollyfields, I'm eternally grateful to you all.

I've found all the staff to be immensely welcoming, thoughtful, and kind. The nursing staff and carers are attentive to my comfort and safety and demonstrate their interest and concern for my well-being at every stage.
I'm only 55 and the adjustment to my new lifestyle hasn’t been easy but I have been so impressed and reassured with the high-quality care that they provide.
The home has such a warm and welcoming feel. The environment is bright and attractive, and I can’t speak highly enough of all the staff, the professionalism and dedication of every team member shines through.
I also have to make a special thank you to the puppy and cat who have really helped me relax in this new environment, even though I have to negotiate with the cat every night for a space in my own bed.

I would highly recommend Barchester Hollyfields Care Home if you are looking for a loving and caring home environment.

My husband was only in Hollyfields for a week but the care was excellent. Everyone listened, understood and tried to provide the care he needed. The care and consideration that was also shown to me were impressive and appreciated, especially the fact I was called in as soon it was obvious that my husband was staying. They gave us space and peace of mind and provided me with all the necessities so that I could stay with him through the night.

Holyfield's cared for Dad over the last 15 months of his illness with severe dementia. The staff are caring and compassionate and care very much about the residents. There were tricky times when my dad's aggression and behaviour were extremely difficult to manage and although these caused challenges the home did continue to care for my dad until the end of his life. Once the right medication was used for my dad his behaviour became much more manageable and made a huge difference to his distress and the ability to deliver personal care and appropriate care and support to him. The food is excellent and tailored well towards the old person. At the end of his life, the staff treated my dad with respect and dignity and also supported us as a family. The entertainment person is caring and committed to the residents and giving them the best experience.

The staff all put a huge effort in with my dad and as a family, we are extremely grateful for all their care and compassion.

Alison Moseley-ShawJob Title:Senior General ManagerJoined: 2022

My journey in Healthcare began in 2004 when I graduated with a BSC (Hons) qualification. I started my career on an NHS ward, where I gained invaluable experience and honed my skills in patient care. Over time, I transitioned my skills into medical education, expanding my knowledge and expertise.

In 2016, I decided to explore new opportunities in private healthcare and accepted a role as Deputy Ward Manager. This experience allowed me to further develop my leadership abilities while continuing to prioritise the well-being of patients.

In 2022, I made the transition into a nursing home, taking on the role of Deputy Manager. Here, my passion for the well-being of both residents and staff truly flourished. It was a privilege to contribute to creating a supportive and nurturing environment for all.

In 2023, I was honoured to be promoted to General Manager, a role that allows me to lead with compassion and dedication. My commitment to the well-being of residents and staff remains at the forefront of everything I do, driving me to continually strive for excellence in care provision.

Outside of work, I'm a proud mum to four wonderful grown-up children and step-mum to two younger children. Family means everything to me, and I cherish the time we spend together. Being a Nanna to two wonderful grandsons brings me immense joy, and I treasure every moment with them.

In my free time, I love nothing more than going on holidays with my husband. Whether it's exploring new destinations or returning to our favourite spots, I find immense happiness in discovering new cultures, cuisines and experiences. Travelling allows me to unwind, recharge, and create lifelong memories.
