My wife was a resident at the care home until she died. The food was disgusting. My wife was a coeliac and needed a gluten-free diet but half the time the cook just sent up any old mush, leftovers a lot of the time. The nurses would move away from my wife's bedside and start discussing her in their
native language, totally unacceptable. There was a couple of the staff that I would commend, but on the surface most were very bad.
Reply from Bilal Khan, Director at Brindley Manor Nursing HomeI have investigated the issues surrounding your wifes stay, which was some 5 months ago. I believe your wife started on a normal diet and needed to switch to puree food which can look unappetising and be disconcerting for Residents/family. Unfortunately, this must be done for clinical and safety reasons. I also checked the coeliac issue you raised and the kitchen staff purchased gluten-free foods and snacks before your wife arrived to meet her dietary needs. We have a zero-tolerance policy on speaking non-English languages and we act immediately on any instances of this. We strongly encourage Residents or family/friends to raise any issues to the Nurse/Manager so it can be addressed straight away as delays in reporting makes it harder for us to take action. We have received many positive comments about the food but we do understand the concerns you raised and are always looking to continually improve for our Residents. Our Manager would be more than happy to meet to discuss further.

End-of-life care for my dear mother was exceptionally good. Caring, compassionate staff made Mom's passing easier for her and us as a family. Knowing that Mom was pain free and comfortable was of utmost importance to us as a family, as she was clearly loved. Thank you to all staff.

Our brother came to Brindley Manor Nursing Home for end of life care and passed away peacefully and pain free thanks to the excellent care that was provided by all staff. The environment is friendly and welcoming to visitors with staff always at hand to answer any questions or attend to their resident's
needs. Our family cannot thank them enough.

My dad was transferred from hospital to Brindley Manor for end of life care, which in itself was a blessing for us, as it enabled my mom, in particular, to see dad every day at any time, which was a great comfort to her and the rest of the family. He had a lovely room overlooking the garden that gave
him the peace he needed. The care, understanding and compassion that the staff showed to my dad and to me and my family during this most distressing time, was exceptional and I can't thank them enough for this.

Would just like to say thank you for how you looked after my dad and step mum, while in your care. The staff were magnificent in looking after them. The home itself may need a bit more TLC, but it's made up by your team! Both Dad and step mum wanted to have their last days together at home. Their leaving
you is no reflection on the home, it was just their wish to go home.

My Mom was cared for at Brindley Manor in March this year. The care she received was of a very high standard, Mom was treated with kindness and dignity by all the staff.
All my family were welcomed into the home each time we visited, nothing was ever too much trouble and the Carers always had time
to talk to us and update us on how Mom had been that day.
I am really grateful to Brindley Manor and all its staff for the care my Mom received.

My mother came to live here in 2015 and the home became Brindley Manor Nursing Home a couple of years ago. In general, the home is run well, with clear communication and the facilities are good. The home is always clean and tidy with regular activities. The standout, however, is the staff. An incredible
group of people committed to their work and to the care of those under their charge. During the Covid-19 period, there were minimal outbreaks and the fact that my mother, as frail as she was did not contract the disease is a testimony to the efforts of staff and management, whilst they also went out of their way to accommodate family visits and make contact as far as possible. The respect, care and love they showed to my mother and to the whole family over the term of my mother's stay was like extended family. Mum was from time to time quite ill and then would be bouncing back and I suspect often, this was due to the care of those around her. When she finally passed, the sensitivity of the team was clear and comforting. Thank you!

My mom came to Brindley Manor Nursing Home in March of this year as she required twenty-four-hour nursing care. From the moment she went in we were greeted by friendly staff. I can only say she has received the highest care possible and treated with respect and dignity of which she deserved. All staff
have been wonderful from management to carers, cleaners, everybody. I shall always be truly grateful to Brindley Manor for looking after my mom.

Truly excellent throughout my mum's six years at Brindley Manor (previously St Johns) Care Home.
The dedication and kindness of the staff, their delivery of high standard holistic care and an obvious determination to do a first-class job, was evident every single day. As an NHS healthcare professional
myself, it was a great comfort to have confidence that Mum was being cared for to such a high standard. Never, in six years, was anything too much trouble. The management team were clearly fully engaged in the resident's day-to-day life, providing accurate, up-to-date information and advice, with compassion and understanding. The entire Care Home, 'root and branch', were exceptional.

A good friend moved into the home after a long stay in hospital and was deemed as unsafe to be home alone.
My friend has been in the home since July 2021.
Brinley Manor has done a marvellous job with my good friend, over the last 8 months. She was very unwell when she first arrived, and her behaviour
could be very challenging. The staff have shown her great understanding, patience and empathy, and their focus has been and continues to be maintaining her dignity. The food is also excellent, as are the activities and entertainment.
The home is also very clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The staff are always very welcoming. Admin works well and is customer-focused. All in all first-class, Keep it up.
I highly recommend the establishment.

My Dad has sadly passed away, with his last few weeks being cared for by the most amazing team. Nothing was ever too much trouble, with Dad's best interests always being at the centre of all decisions. Somehow the team combined all the Covid safety restrictions with a warm and welcoming environment
for us as a family. We will be forever grateful that Dad was with the two of us at his actual passing. This was made very peaceful and personal as well as being a true privilege for us.

My mother is in a bed to assess. The staff are very friendly and kind to her. One particular carer goes over and above to help her which we very much appreciate. Any requests we may have are always dealt with swiftly. The only thing I would feel happier about is given my mother is in a vulnerable situation,
I would feel happier knowing there was CCTV or this outside and in the home...

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.883)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.883) out of 10 for Brindley Manor Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 69 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 69 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.883 for Brindley Manor Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (713 Excellents x 5) + (80 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 800 Ratings = 4.883
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brindley Manor Nursing Home is based on 69 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8, which has been reached with 69 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
