The Lawns Nursing Home, in Kempsey, near Worcester, is an award-winning home with a reputation for the highest standards of care. Nominated for the Gold Standard Framework for provision of End of Life Care "Care Home of the Year" award in 2019, and in October 2022 reaccredited with the Platinum Award for the next 3 years.

The home opened a new purpose-built extension of 22 beds in late 2018 which caters for both residential and nursing residents as well as a recent extensive refurbishment of the Manor House which is the oldest part of the home. Staff believe the best way for you to find out more about the home is to speak to the resident ambassador, residents and their families, to read the reviews for the care that is provided and of course to come and visit the home, open any time.

Family values are important to The Lawns, and they pride themselves on providing a warm and friendly homely environment supporting both residents and their families. The lifestyle and well-being team are dedicated to providing a varied and full programme of events, ranging from individual beauty therapies to charity dog shows to themed weeks and evenings. They encourage independent living as much as possible, from being involved in the preparation of meals to getting out of the home where possible. Families are always welcome to also attend outings.

Care is delivered by a registered nursing team and long-serving care and ancillary teams.

The Lawns specialises in providing end-of-life care and has obtained Gold Standard Framework Platinum status in this speciality. They also care for younger adults with a range of conditions, including acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions.

The service was adequate.
My husband was only at the home for 9 days.
The few people I met were very nice indeed.

My mother was at a home that was closing. The Lawns very promptly had a room and all the arrangements were made with no fuss or worries. On arriving Mum was warmly welcomed and despite her severe dementia, the staff are kind and caring - nothing too much trouble. So much improved on her last nursing
home. She always looks fresh and tidy and by the amount of shampoo and bubble bath used is regularly showered and hair washed, something that rarely happened at the last place.

The Nursing Home treat my Father with the dignity and respect that he deserves at his time in life. He always looks clean and content and enjoys the food provided. His room is kept tidy and has a lovely view that he enjoys. The staff are friendly and will try and get him involved with activities and
make him smile. Thank You to all the staff concerned.

Very happy with the care my father received at Lawns Nursing Home. He was extremely grateful to them for all the care they gave to him in his 10 weeks at the home. Staff very friendly and welcoming when we visited. The food wasn't much to dad's liking but he was terminally ill so appetite was limited.
In all, The Lawns is a very good nursing home which I would recommend.

I was worried when told that my husband would need to go into a nursing home, but all those worries have disappeared as this is like home from home. The home is spotless and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. There is something for the residents to do or join in activities every day.

My husband has been here in palliative care since Sept 30th, he is always treated with the utmost care and consideration. He is bed bound and has to be fed and have everything done for him. The nurses, carers and all the workers at the home make sure he is well looked after and spoken to, although he
can not often give an answer because the Parkinson's has taken his speech.

My mother arrived at The Lawns on December 21st 2015, very ill straight from hospital, to be met by the staff in Xmas fancy dress, all smiling and welcoming. So the great T.L.C began over the next few weeks. She improved and loved where she was, and enjoyed her 95th Birthday in February, where the
same love and care was shown to the whole family. Sadly mum passed away on May 8th and again the care, love and friendship to the whole family was outstanding at this very sad time. The whole team at The Lawns are so professional and caring. I will always remember them. With many thanks and love.

As someone who visits several care homes in my work as a catholic priest, I can say that The Lawns is one of the best. This is due to: friendly and caring staff, cleanliness of rooms and public areas. Satisfaction from families and residents who are also my parishioners. Spiritual care is a priority
for the staff.

My mother was only in the home for about 3 weeks. In that time we always found the staff friendly and helpful and very considerate of my mother and her needs. The room was very pleasant, there were plenty of activities even though my mother never got a chance to use them.

I feel very happy about the care that my mother has received. The staff have been very patient allowing my mother to express herself despite her communication difficulties. A lot of effort is put into activities to enhance the quality of life of the residents. The staff are very supportive and welcoming

Many thanks to all the staff for organising a Halloween party tea for all the residents and relatives. They all wore fancy dress and decorated the dining room to create a fantastic Halloween atmosphere, even down to the plates and cups. Really wonderful. Thank you

My husband was resident at The Lawns Nursing Home from December 2014 to when he died in March 2015. At all times he was treated both kindly and with dignity. Staff at all times were compassionate and encouraging and generally concerned if he wouldn't eat or became depressed with his condition - (he
had Parkinson's followed by a stroke). Couldn't fault the home, even if at times staffing levels low- appreciate though with best made places this can happen due to illness etc..

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.927)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.927) out of 10 for The Lawns is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.927 for The Lawns is calculated as follows: ( (457 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 493 Ratings = 4.927
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lawns is based on 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 42 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
