My wife is well looked after and is very happy there. She is about to enter her fourth year, she is attended regularly by medical staff, and is given all her medication on time. She enjoys her food and that is of a good quality. The staff try to keep the residents entertained and comfortable.

A weak point is communication, while staff will ring in cases of (say) a fall, management rarely communicate on general matters eg. visiting arrangements.

Reply from Sarah Chalmers, Admissions Co-ordinator at Moundsley Hall Care Village

We really appreciate you taking this time to leave us this review. We note your comments on communication but would like to explain that as guidelines around visiting have been changing frequently it has not been practical to contact all families on an individual basis to update them. We have regularly updated our website and newsletters in order to reach the majority of families.

The staff are generally welcoming and friendly. The management is helpful. Due to Covid restrictions, there have not been ongoing activities, which has left my mother bored and unhappy some of the time. As the home is large, it does not feel warm and cosy but rather cold and clinical. Due to staff shortages and lack of visits, my mother has felt lonely. We have had little or no communications from the home as to my mother's condition or wellbeing, but I realise the staff have been working under pressure. Generally, she is well cared for but not stimulated adequently.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review – we note your comments, and we accept that during the pandemic we have not been able to have the usual amount of external visiting entertainers or external trips out. Our staff have done their very best to provide interesting and stimulating...

My mother was placed on end of life care in this nursing home. Despite the fact that I myself work/manage a nursing home and had regular Covid tests, I was not allowed to see my mom. She passed away six days after admission. The Manager was very unsympathetic and unhelpful, even given the fact that Government guidelines state that there must be some flexibility with restrictions when residents are deemed to be on end of life care. I was told, "it's because she is not being given any end of life medication yet".
Totally unacceptable!

I have recently seen a news report where relatives have successfully obtained an apology via the Government Ombudsman. None of this is going to bring my mom back, but a formal complaint will be on its way to this home shortly.

Reply from Sarah Chalmers, Admissions Co-ordinator at Moundsley Hall Care Village

We are truly sorry for your sad loss. At the time (October 2020) Covid cases nationally were rapidly rising and the country shortly went into a national lockdown. This was before Rapid Lateral Flow testing was available for visitors and vaccinations had not yet been rolled out. Our priority is the...

As I am not able to visit my nephew as often as I would like I rely on keeping in touch by phone. All of the staff are very informative when speaking to me, answer all my questions and phone me if they need to report or ask about anything. They even ask how I am, which I

appreciate.

My nephew is disabled and needs help with most things, I think the staff do extremely well caring for him, keeping him comfortable.

My wife (a 92-year-old lady) has been a resident at Moundsley since January 2021.
During all of that time, my wife has always been treated with the utmost care, kindness, and dignity.
The friendliness of everyone and the kindness shown to me personally is wonderful.

I can't praise Moundsley Hall enough.

The last 18 months have been very challenging for everyone, but Moundsley has always done its best to look after Mom and also keep my brother and myself up to speed with what is happening. They have ensured that there is a room available for visits but also for residents such as Mom who are not getting out of bed they allow visits to the room. The whole process is simple and straight forward which has meant we can visit Mom regularly. All of the staff are always welcoming, friendly and professional whether you talk to them in person or via the telephone and give you the confidence that they give every resident the care and respect they deserve. Particular mention for the activities coordinators who have been asked with running the visits and they are brilliant.

I think a real mark of their approach came when Mom, unfortunately, had to go to the hospital for hip pain. One of the A&E staff told me they had received calls from Moundsley to see how Mom was which they had not seen before.

My father was in this establishment for 7 days before passing away.
The level of care and empathy shown by the senior management and lead nurse was appalling.

On behalf of my sister-in-law and myself, I would like to compliment all of the team at Moundsley Hall for their dedication and professionalism in the care, support and kindness shown towards my mother.

Mum has been in Moundsley Hall since the turn of the year and it genuinely gives the family peace of mind to know she is being cared for so very well. Mum is 94 years old on the 12th October and even though "end of life" medication was prescribed a month or more ago, the whole of the team leave no stone unturned to make sure she is comfortable.

My mother, who is 97, has been extremely well looked after since her arrival a year ago. The care she has received has improved her physical and mental health since facing hospitalisation and terminal illness from April to August 2018. The transition from hospital to dementia care ward and onwards to Moundsley Hall was appropriate and smooth.

Both my sister-in-law and myself are very, very pleased with the care and attention my mother has received, not just for the months mentioned, but ever since she has been a resident in Moundsley Hall. All of the staff (and I mean All!) can be very proud of themselves for the professional and caring job they carry out. It makes life so much easier, knowing of this level of care, when I'm going about my life in general. On behalf of myself and my family - Thank you All!

Very happy with all the care they provide to my aunt. I feel she is well looked after and entertained. They monitor her health closely so even the infections she is prone to, have reduced since she became a resident. Overall, excellent management in dealing with difficult situations.

The family can rest easy that all is being done to help my frail and much-loved aunt.

My Dad was in Buckingham House for six weeks receiving "end of life care". He was treated with kindness and dignity. The staff were attentive and really connected with him. The food that was served was of good quality and presented well. During his final hours, Dad was kept comfortable and the support offered to him was extended to us, his family.

Our father was cared for in Buckingham House until he died on 11th May 2019. The care and kindness he received on a daily basis was of an exceptionally high standard.

He was treated with dignity and respect at all times. As a family, we were also supported. We cannot thank the staff enough and we could highly recommend this nursing home.

My father was in Buckingham House, one of the houses in the care village. During the time that my late father was at Buckingham House, he was treated with dignity and respect. The care was faultless. The staff are genuine, friendly and respectful and take time to get to know the person as an individual. The rooms are spaceous, airy, clean and comfortable. Dad was always clean, wearing his own clothes and content. The food, according to my Dad, was always excellent and there was always plenty. The lounge is large and has areas where you can either sit and watch TV or sit and chat in a quiet area. The care Dad recieved in his last days was exceptional and comforting both to him and us, his family.

My mother has now been a resident in Moundsley Hall for just over a month now and I visit a minimum of 3 times per week. I have been very impressed every time I visit with the level of care and attention received by all the residents. It helps me so much mentally that I can get on with my own life knowing my mother is being taken good care of.

My mother was a resident here in Kenilworth House. She had dementia and whilst very lovely, could be difficult sometimes. The carers and nurses were always kind and considerate of her needs. I was kept informed of her health throughout and when I visited, although she did not know who I was, I could tell she was settled and happy there.

I was allowed to personalise her room as much as I felt was needed (I would have added more items, but there was always the safety aspect to consider with someone with dementia). I could pop in whenever I felt the need (usually just to give mom a hug and sit quietly with her in her silence) and was never concerned by what I would see. Unfortunately, mom passed away this month, quietly in her sleep.

If I had any criticism it would perhaps be around the quality of the food. It was very much like school dinners of yore. More fresh vegetables?

A clean environment in lovely surroundings, carers who respect residents; a place that is safe, secure. A+

After experiences with other 'homes', Moundsley was a breath of fresh air.
The staff were outstanding, managing to combine efficiency with compassion.
Extremely approachable and polite at all times of day.
Frankly, the facilities were of lesser importance when you are employing and training such a high quality of staff.

Thank you for helping my mother in her last week of life.

I chose the Moundsley Hall Care Village (Moundsley Hall Unit) for Mum and she moved into the home under NHS Continuing Healthcare in March 2018 for end-of-life care.
The house is set in lovely quiet grounds with trees and a duck pond.
Mum had dementia, was bed-bound with bed-sores from living at home and had difficulty swallowing. She was cared for exceptionally well and staff looked after all her medical, nutritional and social needs. She had a special dynamic mattress and was repositioned every 2 hours, day and night. I always met with friendly, loving, sensitive and professional nursing staff, carers and management whenever I visited. They always took time to discuss any aspects with me and I knew that Mum was getting the best and individualised care that she needed.

She was treated like a queen when she celebrated her 90th birthday in August and the staff came to sing "Happy Birthday" to her. Sadly Mum died peacefully in her sleep in November 2018.
