My step-mother received very good care at Churchill House, particularly during her final illness.
The staff were respectful, kind and considerate.
When able our step-mother joined in various activities and the visiting clergy team seemed very caring.
End of life care was excellent.
Our visits were
never restricted, visiting at different times of day, we were greeted and acknowledged by the staff which we found very reassuring.

Churchill House supported a family member for nearly a year with care and consideration, including end of life support.
We always felt able to visit ay at any time with both staff and managers happy to discuss any questions or concerns we might have.

My wife was dying of cancer and needed end of life nursing and support. All Churchill House staff we came into contact with were wonderful in every way. Professional, caring, friendly and compassionate. I could not recommend more highly. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

Dad went into Churchill House for end of life care. We couldn't fault the love and care he received from all the staff. He was treated with kindness and respect. The day he passed away I was with him and was looked after as well as dad was. Everything was explained well so I knew what to expect which
helped so much. We couldn't have asked for more. They do a fantastic job.

Staff at Churchill House were wonderful to Dad. His condition meant his quality of life was limited, but at Churchill House, he was able to have the best life he could. Dad's ability to communicate was limited, but we were always heartened to see his eyes light up and his lovely smile beam across his
face for the staff that came to his room. We could see how much he liked them. In his highly dependent state, we were always confident that Dad was being well cared for, treated with kindness and his dignity respected. The piece of mind was priceless to us.
As daily visitors, we were always given a friendly welcome by staff.

My mother was cared for at Churchill House for 13 months until her, recent, death there. She had advanced dementia and breast cancer. Throughout her time there all members of the staff treated her with outstanding care, expertise and compassion. As a regular visitor I was also treated in the same way
- I could go in at any time and have my questions and concerns dealt with immediately and with understanding. The end of life care for both my mother and me was similarly excellent.

My friend has been a resident for 12 months. Initially, it was difficult for her to settle, but thanks to the kindness and care of the staff, she has accepted things and is settled. The only negative thing she has mentioned is the quality of the food. I saw the remains of her main course at lunchtime
on Wednesday 28th February. I have rarely seen anything more anaemic or unappetising.
Reply from Heather Stanford, General Manager at Churchill House Care HomeThe comments have been noted and we appreciate her positive comments but are a little disappointed that she felt the meal on the 28th February was not satisfactory. I have spoken to the service user who has not raised any concerns and appreciates that with 62 residents it is hard to please everyone all of the time, she is generally happy with our meal provision.

My mother has been a resident in Churchill House for four years. She has settled in remarkably well. She does not participate in the numerous activities as she is unable to walk, now having to be hoisted. She is always kept clean, warm and comfortable. The staff are very pleasant to her and to us relatives.
Her food, which is minced and mashed because of her teeth, is varied and good. She has plenty of drinks.

It is difficult to find fault with any aspect of Churchill House NursingHome. My mother and father went there in 2011. Father died in 2012. Find that my mother has been looked after and cared for in a most wonderful manner. Close attention has been paid to her needs, likes and dislikes. All staff have
been kind and considerate. Her interest in gardening was kept alive by the time given to her by the gardener in the home. There is no doubt mother was part of the Churchill House "family". Her final weeks were unprecedented in the care and love shown to the mother. Her passing has been made the easier knowing and experiencing the amazing care and love shown to her.

May 2011 both my mother and father were residents at Churchill House, my father passed away after one year. My mother made it her home until she died in March.
Living in Hampshire, visiting was not as often as had we lived more locally.
However the telephone became a lifeline, we rang regularly.
The
staff would always fetch my mother to the phone or ring us back when it was more convenient (excellent service).
In the final stages, we were kept up to date on her condition on a regular basis.
I cannot say or do not have any complaints, only praise and would recommend this home to all.

I had an aunt who was in Churchill House for a couple of years a few years ago and had no hesitation in approaching them again when my dad needed care and support.

All of my family have been impressed with the entire staff with whom we've come into contact during what turned out to be less than a

month, unfortunately. Whether it was cleaners and maintenance, carers, nurses or management, everyone showed a real sense of personal care about their role and, importantly, my dad who was treated with real dignity. He could not have been made more comfortable.

The only observation I'd perhaps make for their consideration is regarding the collection of personal belongings after a death. We didn't expect to be taken to dad's room, where he'd actually passed away. It would have been better to be asked if that was what we wanted. In our case, we'd have preferred to just have a box containing his personal effects prepared for our collection.

My stepmother was a resident at Churchill House from November 2015 to her death in August 2016. As well as providing excellent care and support Churchill House provided a homely environment, in which my stepmother was happy and content. The staff were all friendly and caring and we (the family) were
welcomed to call in at any time. The fact that she was able to remain in her own room during any short bout of illness contributed to her well-being and contentment.

I am an 88-year-old resident (for over 4 years) and with the help of my husband, I have attempted to answer the questions posed but I wish to point out that there is no very good square which I would give to overall standard and that treated with dignity and staff both vary according to the nurse/staff
involved, under facilities I would say my own room with en-suite is adequate for my needs. The food and drink is excellent nutritionally and my husband who visits me daily and enjoys the privilege of having 'tea' with me in my room marvels at the quantity and variety provided. Hence the EXTREMELY LIKELY.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.705)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.705) out of 10 for Churchill House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.705 for Churchill House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (211 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 271 Ratings = 4.705
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Churchill House Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
