My wife has advanced vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. Since being cared for by Oldbury Grange, I have seen a marked improvement in her general wellbeing and happiness. I attribute this mainly to the home's benign environment created by the excellent management team and conscientious and caring staff.

My mother was transferred to Oldbury Grange from hospital in order to recover from Covid-19 in their designated quarantine area. She stayed for 4 weeks before returning home. I am very happy with the care she received from all of the nursing team. I phoned every day to enquire about my mother's condition
and it was always possible to receive a thorough update and to talk to my mother. I do not know what the future holds for my mother but if it becomes necessary to transfer her permanently to a care home, I would certainly consider Oldbury Grange very favourably. Please note that I cannot answer all of the multiple-choice questions as I did not see inside the building myself.
Reply from Vanessa Davies, Head of Operations at Oldbury Grange Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to review Oldbury, we are really pleased that your mum received the care we strive to deliver to all of our residents and that she recovered from COVID-19.

Our mother had a fall 2 weeks before Christmas and we were desperate to get our mum some respite care, as she was living on her own. We rang Oldbury Grange and straight away, we were put at ease by the home manager, telling us they had a room available. From the moment we dropped our mum off, the care
and friendly faces were very reassuring. Our mum, in total, had 5 weeks care. Our main concern was that everyone was kind to her and that she was treated well. We cannot express enough, how well she was treated and looked after by everyone. Our mum is home now and is constantly talking about this beautiful care home, telling us how fantastic everyone was and how caring you all were. She also likes to tell us how lovely the food was, and that you could eat as much as you like. We wanted to say a big thank you to you all and if anyone is considering Oldbury Grange for a care home for a loved one, this is the place. We will never forget the love and care you gave to our mum.
Reply from Vanessa Davies, Head of Operations at Oldbury Grange Nursing HomeThank you very much for taking the time to review Oldbury Grange, as a business we strive to provide a very high standard of care and it is lovely to know how much your mum enjoyed her time at Oldbury. I will pass on your message of thanks to the team. Take care and stay safe.

Care is compassionate, friendly and specifically relevant to individual cases. Nursing care is of the highest quality and sensible use is made of outside agencies when appropriate. Any difficulties arising are notified to relatives without delay and difficulties are not allowed to become catastrophes.
The overall impression is that for both staff and residents, smiles are mandatory.

The telephone review went well with the manager and assistant. I was brought up to date with my mother's medical condition and needs. My mother is happy with all aspects of the home. COVID-19 issues were discussed, but we are happy that the home has addressed the issues with this virus very competently.
I am very happy with the overall way my mother is cared for.

They say 'don't judge a book by its cover; but on this occasion, it's fine to do so! Not only is Oldbury Grange beautiful on the outside, but it is also wonderful on the inside too. The staff here should be awarded the '5-star' rating because they make this home a very special place. I arrived with
my mother full of tears and trepidation, but now I arrive with smiles, in the knowledge that my mother is well cared for.

When my parents transferred to Oldbury Grange all went well. Suitable rooms were found and managers and staff made them very welcome. The nursing and care staff work hard to ensure needs are met. Any concerns I might have are sorted and I am kept informed. En-suite bedrooms are well-appointed and are
always clean. There are good social activities. Oldbury Grange is a pleasant environment for all residents with a friendly welcoming atmosphere.

Carers are well trained and many have been working at Oldbury Grange for many years. Only rarely has there been a smell of urine in any of the rooms in the 8 years that my wife has been there on less than half a dozen occasions have I noticed a smell. The staff are cheerful and prepared to give residents
a hug if that seems appropriate.

The most important factor in this review is my mother and she is looked after with care, compassion and dignity. The atmosphere at the home very friendly and warm. The rooms are comfortable and attractive and the visitors are made very welcome. On rare occasions, I've made a negative observation it
has been received with grace and acted upon. The home manager always has time for discussion between myself and my mother and she has been extremely helpful with sound advice and keeping things rolling.

From when dad arrived at 'The Grange' the care, transition and kindness shown by the manager, nurses and care staff was quite overwhelming. Nothing, and I mean nothing was too much trouble. Dad is away always clean, shaved and has clean clothes on daily. Meals catered for all ages and the menu held
a lot of variety. Drinks were constant. Dad has his own personal room, and we were told to take any belongings from his home to make him feel at home, what more could you ask for!!!

I judge the quality of the care home mainly by the quality of the staff. At Oldbury, they are well qualified, conscientious and very considerate of the needs of the patients. The food is exceptionally good, being well prepared and professionally administered where necessary. It is quite hard to get
good entertainment in Bridgnorth, nevertheless, a good standard is maintained throughout the year. Visitors' requests are invariably granted, eg being allowed to take a resident out on to the patio. Regular resident reviews are held and information about their medication is always available. The care home manager is frequently about and is always happy to discuss any problems.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.932) out of 10 for Oldbury Grange Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 72 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 72 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.932 for Oldbury Grange Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (798 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 852 Ratings = 4.932
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oldbury Grange Nursing Home is based on 72 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 registered maximum number of service users is 13.8, which has been reached with 72 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
