Popped into my old neighbour. The home was very warm and residents all looked happy and comfortable, very clean. The staff were very helpful and caring. This is a very nice home for residents a good addition to our local area. I would recommend it strongly.

Having moved my aunt from a care home due to poor care standards, from the first contact with Roden Hall to the present day I can only describe it as excellent. The staff, the care for my aunt and us as a family have been first class.

The home presents well with good quality of furniture, fittings and the staff present a genuine caring attitude to your loved one and their continued care. Roden is set in superb grounds offering solace and relaxation to those requiring a more rural care setting.
It is very apparent that training is
in great need to safeguard, be effective, and efficient in managing the care of the frail, unwell and elderly of some conditions.
Robust safeguarding systems are either not in place, not understood, or just not being followed.
After hours of her arrival, my 91-year-old mother, surviving on oxygen for life support, and with strict clear instructions from the hospital and the family was not sufficiently inducted into this home, was mobilised without oxygen on two known occasions, she is now “fast-approaching end of life”.
My 93-year-old Father living with Dementia after only a few days of his arrival suffered a fall on water in his bathroom and is now in hospital with severe impairment. Beware!

We are terribly sorry that you feel this way, but we do need to make it clear that your mother was admitted to us on end-of-life care, and this has not been brought on as a result of the care delivered at Roden Hall. Equally, you have been informed by the Authorities that your father in fact had a stroke and did not slip-on water on the floor. We feel very passionately about this as the flooring at Roden is specialist state-of-the-art non-slip. That being said we do care about his welfare and hope he progresses.
We sympathise with your dilemma and understand the strain these situations create. We do hope that you can find a care home that meets your personal requirements and apologise that despite wanting to return we were unable to accommodate this request, as we have been advised of the complaints you made against your parent’s previous care home also.
We genuinely hope and pray for your parents and their well-being.

Mum has been here for several months now. Despite the difficulties due to Covid and restrictions, I feel that the staff have worked tirelessly to provide a high level of care. Mum is happier and better cared for than previously. Little niggles get ironed out quickly and with a friendly attitude. No
grumbles from myself or Mum.

The surroundings and environment of this home are good, the care is sadly lacking. There are insufficient staff and often agency staff with little knowledge of English, lots of trainees, making it harder for the qualified carers, who are totally run off their feet. They cannot possibly execute on-the-job
training. There have been numerous failings in the provision of clean bed linen. It seems stocks are low and patients kept waiting before being returned to bed. Food quality is very poor, unappetising at best, and in some cases barely edible. Dietary requirements are not met properly. I don’t believe the kitchen staff understands what cross-contamination is and how ill it can make an already vulnerable patient. Both out-of-date products and items with very short dates are still served, so it’s obvious to me that no system is in place for food rotation or quality checking. It’s impossible to get hold of a nursing sister and dressings are not changed in line with the care plan.

We have discussed this in further detail with you and carried out a full review of the points raised. Please rest assured that we have a full complement of staff and are continually training new staff to ensure the future of care. We have plentiful stocks of linen, a 5-star kitchen rating and are able to cater for a wide range of dietary requirements. Our highly qualified clinical lead and nurses follow the protocol laid down in medical instructions and this is our absolute top priority. We apologise that we have been unable to meet the request to return to the home but the suite has been required by the Local Authority to assist with the hospital winter pressures.

Roden Hall is a very caring and supportive home. It is run with dedication and commitment. All staff members are very approachable and understanding. The residents are treated with respect and a friendly and warming nature. I wouldn't have my husband anywhere else.

Mum was a resident at Roden during the summer for respite following a fall. She was very happy there, she said she felt very safe and secure, the staff were lovely, professional and caring. She also likes the food and her accommodation.

What a wonderful home, I felt so reassured that my mum was being cared for, especially after a long hospital stay where I was unable to see her (due to the pandemic. The staff at Roden Hall kept me fully informed, I spoke and saw mum every day via Skype, which was great, as I could see how she was improving.
The staff seemed to really understand how I was feeling and would contact me with any update regarding her care.
The staff really live the values, I chatted albeit via skype each day with someone from the team who were always so positive and put my mind at ease. I cannot thank them enough.

Cannot rate Roden Hall enough, 5-star nursing home, it simply is the best of the best, brand new building, welcoming staff like a second home. Feel totally 100% at ease leaving mam. Staff pop in, sing, chat to mam when I am not able to get there. Food specially prepared, excellent family involvement
in celebrations, including food - Bonfire Night, Christmas. If you've not visited or are thinking of coming, it's a must-see. Beautiful building, cafe, cinema, pub theatre, beauty salon.

For 23 years’ prior, she worked as a Paramedic in the British Army.
