  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Abbeywell Court Mental Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.803 for Abbeywell Court Mental Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (96 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 117 Ratings = 4.803

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeywell Court Mental Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 9 positive Reviews (45 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 9 Reviews ÷ 9 Target = 1.000

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My Husband was a resident here for 1 year. He had Alzheimer's and had become too unwell to be cared for at home. The management and staff here are dedicated and kind to the residents. The home is clean and the food provided is very good. The staff are dedicated to the residents and my Husband was always nicely dressed and clean. There are activities for those able to participate and regular visits by a singer which is very enjoyable. When possible the residents are taken into the garden. My Husband died in December but I still go to the home to play the piano for them.

Care of residents is the most important consideration. Abbeywell is excellent. My mother has been a resident for 3 months and my confidence in the kindness, gentleness and patience of all staff is very high. Many of the staff are from ethnic backgrounds but their English is always good. Managers, nurses, carers, cooks and laundry staff are very friendly and very efficient. I am always told of any health issues, a chest infection was very closely monitored by the doctor, I was kept informed of her condition from which she has recovered. I am very pleased with my mum's care, she has settled well and seems content. I can visit whenever I like, staff care of all the residents seems excellent. Activities are planned for each month and include local outings.

Mabel Santiago, Home Manager at Abbeywell Court Mental Nursing Home responded to this review on 06 Mar 2018:

Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for this review, and rest assured that we will continue to strive for the best possible care to our beloved residents.

My mum has been in Abbeywell Court since summer 2017. The standard of care is excellent. The staff are so caring and considerate of Mum's needs. The home is run to a high standard in all aspects. My mum has never been so happy. She has come on leaps and bounds since being there. Mum required more care and this was the reason for moving her. I dreaded the move but as it is, it is the best move I made. I have total peace of mind and appreciate how lucky that Mum is in a loving caring home.

Thank you very much for this excellent care review for Abbeywell Court. We will try to maintain our high standard of care for your loved ones if not for the excellent level of care.

My siblings and I are very pleased with the care and attention being given to our Mum who has late stage Alzheimer's Disease. All the staff are gentle, caring, helpful and hard working. Abbeywell Court is a very well run, safe and caring environment and we are all very glad to have found it.

Mabel Santiago, Home Manager at Abbeywell Court Mental Nursing Home responded to this review on 31 Jan 2018:

Thank you very much for your very positive feedback about Abbeywell Court. We continue to strive to provide excellent care to your loved ones.

A year ago we were faced with the task of finding a Nursing Home for our father. We visited most homes in Staffordshire and left them feeling very apprehensive. Until we visited Abbeywell Court Nursing Home in Chesterton, Staffs.
Our first impressions were of a homely environment, lovely rooms and spotlessly clean. We were not wrong. However, this homes biggest asset is their staff. They made huge efforts to strike a relationship not only with our father but ourselves also. Making us feel part of the ‘family’. We totally trusted them with his care at the same time knowing he was 100% safe.
Our family cannot thank the manager and her caring staff enough for how they helped us.
This care home is head and shoulders above the rest.

Thank you very much for your kind words and appreciation for our staff and for the quality of care we provide here in Abbeywell Court.

Mum has been a resident for over two months now so I feel well qualified to give this appraisal of Abbeywell. We as a family have regularly visited the home at various times during Mums residency, we have always found the home more than adequately staffed, with pleasant hard working people who always ensure that residents and visitors alike are cared for with courtesy and respect. We viewed quite a few homes prior to trusting Abbeywell with Mums care and I for one haven't regretted our decision for one second.

My first visit to Abbeywell was to check out prospective homes for Dad. As soon as I was let into the home I was greeted with happy smiley staff who continued to work while I was shown around. I got a really good feeling about the place and watched the staff interacting with the residents and knew that Dad would be well cared for there.
During his time there, about 10 months, Dad was always treated with respect and dignity. He could be challenging at times but the staff handled situations professionally. His changing dietary needs were reviewed regularly and monitored well. The staff work hard and always made us welcome and during Dads final days they all showed care and compassion to us and Dad. I would not hesitate in recommending Abbeywell as it is by far the best place I saw and my gut feeling was right, they could not have done anymore to make Dads final few months more comfortable. Thank you to all at Abbeywell.

Mabel Santiago, Home Manager at Abbeywell Court Mental Nursing Home responded to this review on 27 Nov 2017:

Thank you very much for your lovely compliments and rest assured that we will continue to give our residents the best quality of care possible.

My Mother has been very well cared for here since September 2016. She has complex physical and mental needs, so is quite challenging to care for. The care staff, nurses, support staff and Management are always caring, helpful and eager to engage both with residents and their relatives. Activities are appropriate for the nature of the residents and are tailored to meet individual requirements. Resident rooms are not large, but are of an adequate size and have an en-suite (if appropriate). The cuisine is good and tailored to specific resident requirements. From my perspective, the Home is sufficiently small to facilitate a personal and caring environment - has two floors. It is close to the A34 and A500, which enables good access for visiting by car.
