All of the staff at Abbeywell Court are extremely helpful and kind. I feel reassured that my nan is in safe hands due to the compassion, care and patience all the staff show towards her and other residents. The home appears clean and well run and my nan is well cared for. The staff always make us feel
extremely welcome when we visit and I thoroughly appreciate the care that they have shown my nan.

My Mum was blessed to live at Abbeywell Court for the past 3 years. I lost my Mum on 22 April this year during the COVID-19 pandemic. She did not have the virus which was down to the level and high standard of care which she received at Abbeywell Court.
They did their best to keep her safe. Unfortunately,
isolation does not help Alzheimer's sufferers. This could not be avoided and because she was kept safe I was allowed to be with her when she died for which I will be eternally thankful.
Abbeywell was heaven-sent for Mum and me. The residents are family to the staff at Abbeywell and treated as so. Loved and cared for very much. I cannot praise them enough.
Mum was 94 years of age on 9th April and the staff had a cake for her and celebrated without me as I was not allowed to be there. They sent me photos which I shall cherish forever.
Mum loved it at Abbeywell and so did I. A little bit of heaven in an Alzheimer's world.
Reply from Biju Mathew, Manager at Abbeywell Court Nursing and Residential HomeHi Christine, Thank you very much for your kind words and honest opinion about us. Mum was taken into Abbeywell Court on 1st April from Royal Stoke hospital as she had fallen at home and her main carer my dad had also become ill (he was diagnosed with glioblastoma and sadly died on 17th April after contracting covid 19). Mum received the absolute best care possible from all the staff.
As we were unable to visit due to the restrictions the virus caused I was kept informed of her condition on a daily basis. Mum was not told of Dad's passing due to her advanced dementia as it would have upset her greatly and she would not have been able to recall what she had been told. Dad's funeral was on 6th May at 10.00 am and mum passed away shortly after at 2.05 pm the same day. I cannot thank the home enough for the wonderful care she received. Mum and dad are now back together forever. I would not hesitate to recommend Abbeywell Court to anyone. Wonderful staff giving a compassionate, caring service to its residents and their families. Thank you with all my heart xxx

When we, as a family, viewed this home prior to Mum having a place there, we were immedately aware of the high standard of care given by the staff. Mum spent the last 2 weeks of her life being cared for with dignity and love by very experienced staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they had the utmost
patience in feeding Mum. We were always offered drinks for ourselves, meals if it was that time of the day, and the offer to have a bed overnight stay as Mum's condition worsened. After Mum's passing there was so much love, sympathy and efficiency in dealing with all that was needed.
Reply from Maribel Santiago, Manager at Abbeywell Court Nursing and Residential HomeThank you so very much for this heart felt and very positive feedback on how we cared for your beloved family member on end of life. We will continue to provide the best possible care both for residents and their families. God bless you always.

My Mother moved into Abbeywell Court in November 2019. I was very impressed by the professionalism of all the staff I came across.I found all of them very dedicated to their work, The kindness, compassion and care that my mother received was of a very high standard. I was always kept up to date with
any changes occurring relating to her care and wellbeing. I do consider that the staff go the extra mile with the residents and their families maximising their comfort, care and peace of mind. I cannot thank them enough for everything they did for my mother. I would recommend this home to anyone requiring EMI nursing care.

My sister was in the home from April this year until she sadly passed away on December 15th 2019.
During the time of her stay, the care she received was second to none - I can't speak highly enough about the staff, from the manager down, absolutely first class in every respect. Thanks for making her
final time so happy.

Mum is clean, safe and cared for extremely well. Any problems we encounter are acted upon immediately and staff are always cheerful and helpful. Mum seems happy when familiar carers walk into a room and speak to her. It is lovely to see her face light up with recognition.

My wife has been a resident at Abbeywell Court for two and a half years. Abbeywell is an excellent nursing home. It is very well run by a management team that is first class, it's team of carers look after the residents with love, patience and treat them with great dignity. There is a complete and varied
programme of activities which are superbly organised. The whole of the staff, including the nursing staff, cleaners and cooks have one aim, to care for and make the residents happy and at home. I would recommend Abbeywell Court to anyone who wants peace of mind, knowing that their relatives are secure, well cared for and happy.

When entering Abbeywell Court with my father, June 2018, I did not know how to react, do or expect. Not been in this situation before. We were made to feel at ease and given assurance.
I have found Abbeywell Court staff to be very approachable and have lots of empathy for all residents. It is like
a "family home environment" and am most pleased my father and I are part of it.

My mother suffers from very challenging conditions yet she is always calm, relaxed and as happy as can be expected whenever I visit. The assistance and attention she receives is first class and the opportunities she is given for enjoying visits and activities is far higher than anything she could hope

Very welcoming, staff friendly and caring. Their care for their residents, they always seem to have resident best interest in mind. Management makes me feel that my uncle lives in a safe environment and that they follow all procedures to ensure this. The home itself feels like it needs some redecoration,
as it looks tied in places, however, this isn't what looks after mY uncle, but to live in nice, clean, homely environment helps.

My mum moved into Abbeywell Court in March 2019 after a long spell in hospital and an assessment unit. She has mixed dementia and had been living independently until a fall sent her into hospital; once there she deteriorated both mentally and physically and developed paranoia and challenging behaviour.
I visited several nursing homes which just did not feel right but as soon as I walked through the door of Abbeywell Court and met the manager I knew this would be the right place for her. She has found it very difficult to settle because of her dementia and can be very difficult at times but the staff have shown such patience and dedicated care for her. I live about 3 hours away and so it is really important that I know she is always safe and looked after and treated with respect. The activities co-ordinator is brilliant. Last week it was my mum's birthday and she organised a party for her which I and six of her friends were able to share with her and other residents.

Abbeywell is well staffed and everyone is courteous and helpful. The residents are well entertained and looked after. The decor and fit-out are a little old fashioned and the TV is a little loud (but I understand why). I am often made a coffee by staff but would prefer to do this myself. Despite being
given the kitchen code there is rarely coffee/mugs in there. Overall, safe, secure and caring with good stimulation.

I highly recommend Abbeywell Court for the care and attention residents have, the staff are always busy, feeding, always on hand to calm residents if they get upset or agitated. Abbeywell Court, in my opinion, is excellently run because of A1 management and staff. The food is of excellent quality and
nutritious. The communication is excellent. I've had no worries or stress over my nan because I know she gets all the care and attention she needs. 10/10.

I have visited this care home at least twice a week, sometimes more, over the past year and found my husband being looked after extremely well, always very clean and tidy. a very clean smell, never an odour of urine, unlike other places I have visited.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.356) out of 10 for Abbeywell Court Nursing and Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.481 for Abbeywell Court Nursing and Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (108 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 185 Ratings = 4.481
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeywell Court Nursing and Residential Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
