Review from M B (Sister of Resident) published on 21 November 2023 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

When my sister arrived at Abbeywell Court 4 years ago her behaviour was very challenging but this was managed well. Her needs were met in a kindly and compassionate manner. It was good to see that there were activities tailored to my sister's needs, even after her comprehension deteriorated greatly. She was always included in the entertainment in the lounge. The furniture was very tired indeed. I was not 'next of kin' and would have liked emails to keep me up to date with regulations, particularly during Covid.

My mum has been at Abbeywell for 14 months, we had quite a few setbacks at first and I had quite a few meetings with the manager. However the last three months have been wonderful. The staff are regular, permanent staff and they are happy, polite and can't do enough for mum and us as a family. They know mum and us as a family and our needs and likes. The entertainment and outings are outstanding and we have had two wonderful birthdays with mum here, made really personal with banners cakes drinks and birthday cake. Can't comment on food as we have never seen moms meals but she is really well looked after with drinks whenever we are there.

It is a pleasure to care for your mum and we will ensure to maintain the best care possible at all times. Thank you for sharing your experience and I will pass your kind words to the home team.

My mom moved to Abbeywell right at Christmas time and I was so concerned how she would settle as she really had no idea she was in a home environment, I need not have worried, all the staff and management at this home are outstanding. My mom can be challenging in behaviours and they have shown patience and coaxed her to allow help when needed, she loves getting her hair done and her mood has lifted so much since coming here.
Sadly, mom can’t remain as I live 300 miles away and I’m moving her closer to me to share precious time before dementia takes her away. But I would recommend this home to everyone.

Thank you all.

The team at Abbeywell have always shown professionalism in the way they look after my dad, from the very first day they were so friendly and welcoming, there have been some challenges over the last 10 months with dad's behaviour but the team have only ever shown compassion to my dad and always kept me updated.

Mum moved into Abbeywell Court just before Christmas last year after several weeks in hospital. My sister was Mum's primary caregiver but due to her complex needs, she could no longer be in her own home. I live abroad and this has been the first opportunity for me to visit because of covid restrictions. I am so impressed by the caring staff and upbeat atmosphere within the home. It seems nothing is too much trouble and everyone goes above and beyond to ensure the residents' needs are met and they are happy. I am returning home knowing Mum is in very good hands.

My mother has been living at Abbeywell Court for approximately two and a half years now. Whilst the home was not the most 'new and shiny' we saw when choosing a new home for her, the atmosphere seemed very positive. It has remained so throughout her time there.

Upon every visit (most notably before the covid restrictions when I could arrive at any time without giving notice), I have found my mother to be clean and well presented. The staff have always been very proactive and conscientious; the home is clearly well run. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to others.

My Dad was transferred to Abbeywell Court as he was unable to go home from hospital (middle of the covid pandemic). It's been difficult as we haven't been able to visit under normal circumstances, but when we have visited we have been impressed with Dad's care, his appearance, and cleanliness. The staff are all attentive and pleasant. Thank you. Dad has Parkinson's-related Dementia and can be difficult to deal with.

My mum has been given all her care needs by the team of staff. They always update me immediately of any concerns however small. Her individual care needs were identified soon after mum moved in and change when applicable. Overall, the family are most welcome by the team who have a good rapport with mum. Thanks.

My ex mother-in-law has been a resident here for just over one year and her care has been exceptional during these difficult covid times. The home has the most caring staff and do all they can to keep all residents safe. All the residents and my ex mother-in-law are always dressed lovely and the home is very clean. It was a shock when Mum needed to go into the nursing home. However, I believe she is in the right place and that Abbeywell Court is looking after her. There is a high ratio of staff to residents and the attention given to Mum helps her anxiety. The manager is very professional and knowledgeable and he visits the residents to talk to them and see how they are. All the staff seem very pleasant although due to Covid I have not spoken to many of them. The main person I have contact with is the activities leader and she has made the whole situation much easier for me because she is both efficient and caring. The pandemic has prevented most activities from taking place but the activities leader has managed to keep a routine going and she checks that every resident is being occupied and cared for.

Mum was in the care of Abbeywell Court Mental Nursing Home until she passed away.
All the staff were so helpful and in the last few days of Mums life made us all welcome so so we could be with Mum it was a very dignified passing and we were able to be with her all the way through.

The staff cared for Mum very well, I could not have asked for any better.

I was really impressed with the standard of care given to my dad in what has been a very stressful time for my family. My dad needed expert care and I knew my dad was safe in Abbeywell Court. Nothing was too much trouble, they kept me updated on how he was doing, and through the pandemic, I could see him on Skype. I could see he was happy, safe and well cared for, the staff are absolutely brilliant.

My brother, who was suffering from dementia, was in the exceptional care of Abbeywell Court for almost 3 years before he sadly died in February. I felt confident for him to be cared for by the marvellous staff who skilfully managed his sometimes challenging behaviour. Unfortunately, covid made it difficult to visit him and although I was invited to be with him at the end, I was unable to do so. However, I was always kept updated and informed of any health issues and felt he was with caring staff with whom he was familiar and had become his second family. A big thank you for your care of my brother, especially over the past difficult year.

My dad had a few months at Abbeywell Court. Though not able to visit due to Coronavirus, I had some lovely Skpye calls with him. Everyone I spoke to was extremely helpful, and I felt in the short time he was there, they got to know him and cared about his character. He passed away at 92, and I was satisfied all care and dignity was there for him. From personal touches to his room when allowed a visit a few days before, I am able to say it was a good, happy place.
