Following a six-week stay in hospital my dad's care was transferred to Branston Court Care Home, within days I noticed a positive change in him. In June of this year, he suffered a stroke and was given a short time to live. Since then he has been returned to the care home where his condition has gradually
improved, helped by the high standard and professionalism of care afforded to him by the wonderful staff and management at Branston Court Care Home.

All I can say is that the four weeks that my mother spent at Branston Court were the best she had enjoyed for many months. The care and attention she received were second to none and helped her to settle in so easily. She was so happy here and the sadness is that her time here was so short. A sincere
and heartfelt 'thank you' to the Manager and all her wonderful staff.

Mum arrived at Branston Court confused, lonely and losing weight. The staff have been incredible; they are kind, thoughtful and genuinely care. I am informed regularly about Mum's health and wellbeing, and thanks to their expertise and nurture, she is happy and gaining weight - I cannot thank them enough!

I was determined to try and get Mum a place at Branston Court because it has such a great reputation and it was highly recommended by a family friend. As soon as we walked into meet the manager on the first day (a few days before Mum's place was confirmed), I knew Mum would be looked after and cared
for. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Mum has now been here for 3 days and she is starting to eat again and mobilise. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who all genuinely want Mum to flourish again.

After receiving a recommendation from a neighbour we approached Branston Court and were very pleased with the professional manner especially in relation to covid restrictions. As a result, dad moved in and is settled and happy. We feel all the staff involved with dads care are willing to go the extra
mile. Nothing is too much trouble. I would have no hesitation in recommending Branston Court.

When we first came to Branston COurt we were welcomed in a professional manner by the manager and staff. It was clear it was a well-run establishment. On bringing our dear one in we were again made to feel reassured. Since lockdown, we have been even more impressed by the care, love and dedication shown
to my mother and to us by the manager and her staff. We are lucky and happy mother is in such good hands. Thank you all.

Very caring staff who took time to get to know Mum. They were very gentle and attentive to Mum's needs and always supportive of our visits at such a difficult time. Allowing us to have a ground floor window room meant we spent Mum's final weeks able to see her and spend valuable time together after
ten weeks apart.

When I first visited my husband on his first day here I cried because he was so happy and settled. The staff are so caring and treat him with respect and dignity. The past few months have been difficult for us both but it is like a home from home. Finally this week with a lot of help from the manager
his placement has been confirmed which has been a big worry and made me feel poorly. The sympathetic manner in which we as a family are always treated is so very much appreciated.

From the day Dad came to Branston Court from leaving hospital, he settled straight in thanks to the manager and her amazing staff. To get |Dad's placement made permanent here she has gone over and above to help us get Dad's placement confirmed. It really is a family here. The staff care so much and
have so much patience it's lovely. Not only do all my dad's family think this way all of Dad's friends that come to visit all say how nice it is and have changed their views on nursing/care homes. Cannot praise everybody enough.

Dad admitted to emergency respite over an hour away. Called in and spoke to the Manager who helped me secure him in a bed in Branston. She was very helpful with social services and the other home. So grateful for her help. Dad now settling in. The home appears very clean and meals and home seem perfect.

My sister-in-law was so upset about not being able to meet her mum's needs at home but coming to Branston Court has been a godsend. The care and understanding all staff give, not just to our mum, but to the family too, is five-star. Involving the whole family, especially her daughter, has been a massive
help.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.138)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.138) out of 10 for Branston Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.449 for Branston Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.449
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.689 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Branston Court Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.889
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?

“To me, it means being person-centred and caring for residents both individually and holistically.”

As a Registered Nurse and specialist in Adult Nursing, Ruth has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for residents.

Having worked in the care sector for many years, Ruth closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked why she originally chose to work in the care sector, Ruth said:

“It was because I love caring for people. It’s something that started when my grandad was poorly when I was eight and I needed to help put his socks on, I took real pride in caring for him. I’ve never worked in any other sector.”

When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Ruth remarked:

“I enjoy leading my team and encouraging them to create great things, plus I love working in a family-friendly environment”.

Ruth has also achieved much outside of work, with her proudest achievement being a mother to two sons. Outside of work, Ruth enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys, especially taking them to play for their football teams. She also enjoys watching Derby County.
