As a leading provider of nursing care for elderly people with dementia, complex dementia, stroke, progressive neurological illnesses and enduring mental health needs. The home provides bespoke enablement care for people with a variety of shorter-term needs as well as long-term nursing care.

At Lakeview Care Home, they have the expertise and trained staff available to provide enablement health beds to people needing short-term support. These transitional placements in to the caring and secure environment of a specialist care facility have proved to be very successful with NHS partners and warmly received by short stay residents.

Working in partnership with local Trusts, they provide a number of enablement health beds for elderly residents across a number of scenarios, including:

Elderly people who are ready for discharge but are awaiting a full social services package to be put in place before going.

Elderly people who are on the road to full recovery but need some additional physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy support on a short-term basis to rebuild confidence and skills before going home.

Elderly people who require a long-term placement who can be cared for in an enablement health bed, rather than block a badly needed NHS bed, while their permanent placement is being finalised

Their service includes providing nursing care for people with complex dementias, those who have had strokes or are dealing with progressive neurological illnesses and also palliative care for residents who are reaching the end of their life.

By providing their nursing service from within the Lakeview Care Home complex, staff are able to provide a clear pathway to/from specialist complex dementia or residential, respite and enablement services. Residents can step up/step down as required rather than having to transfer to an alternative health or care setting.

My husband has been at Lakeview for three months. The staff look after him well, they encourage him to eat and drink. When I visit they talk to him and also ask after myself. The staff are pleasant, and well presented too.

It's a very difficult and worrying time when a family member has to go into care, what will the level of care be like? How will the staff treat them? Will they be looked after properly? Fortunately there was no need to worry. The level of care is excellent. The staff are caring, kind, thoughtful and
professional. They remember my dad's likes and dislikes. He is definitely looked after properly. They are a great team.

My husband has been in Lakeview for five years with two being spent in Kirby. The staff are all wonderful to him, and he is always clean and tidy.
Staff are very approachable, and I am kept informed on his well-being.
I would not want him to be anywhere else.

I cannot thank the staff on Keswick enough, since my husband was admitted to the unit the staff have treated him with nothing but love and care. They go above and beyond for all the residents. I can now sleep at night knowing he is well looked after and in good hands. He looks so well, he always looks
clean and tidy. The girls do such a good job with him, the food is great and the activities they offer are good too. I hope this is now his forever home, I wouldn't change it.
Reply from Tracey York, Marketing Assistant to Commercial Director at Lakeview Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words, this has brought great comfort to our team knowing that you feel he is in such capable and caring hands. The efforts of the staff to maintain his dignity and comfort do not go unnoticed by management and your kind words help assure the team they go above and beyond every day, so thank you. Finding a place where one can call 'home' is not easy, especially under these circumstances. Yet, it seems that you have, and we could not be any more proud. The peace of mind this brings is invaluable, and I am confident that this will be his forever home, for him and a sentiment I am sure is shared by many other families. Please accept our deepest appreciation for sharing your review. The team will be so pleased.

Mum came for her third visit for respite.
Staff have now got to know her better and whilst she has fairly complex needs they looked after her well. When I leave her at Lakeside I feel she is in safe hands and I worry less the more times she visits on respite. Accommodation and food are very good and
the staff are always upbeat and positive. They respond very quickly to queries/requests when visiting.
On the organisation/administrative side I feel this is very good with strong understanding and responses.

I have nothing but respect for all staff on Kendal where my husband is a resident. They are kind, jolly and generous with their time. My husband is shown kindness and given excellent care and attention and treated with respect and dignity. They pay him attention when he speaks and when he doesn't and
always make sure he is happy both physically and mentally. He gets plenty of exercise and entertainment. He is always clean and dry. Kendal is clean and sunny and he has access to beautiful gardens. My husband is happy. The staff are wonderful and I cannot praise them highly enough, nor thank them enough. They are all heroes.

Excellent service from all staff. It was a very pleasant experience to receive a warm friendly greeting on arrival and the help to get Mom settled in. The care for my mom shows that the staff are very well trained and are passionate in their care for the residents, something that can be very challenging
at times. In the limited time Mom has been there there is an obvious improvement in Mom's mood, appetite and general wellbeing.
It was not an easy decision to place Mom into a care home but a sudden change in Mom's physical health accelerated her dementia meaning care at home was not an option. She is now receiving the care and attention that she needs.
Reply from Shelley Eggison, Care Home Manager at Lakeview Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are immensely pleased to hear that your mother's transition into our care home has been met with such positivity and warmth.
At Lakeview our team strives tirelessly to create an environment that not only meets the physical needs of our residents but also nurtures their emotional wellbeing. Your kind words about the warm reception and the assistance in settling your mom in truly warm our hearts. The home is a very able and welcoming place for those struggling with issues of age and mental infirmation.
My mother was a resident at another care setting and enjoyed her time there, but now is living in Loweswater.
Her care is top class and I have never had any issues concerning her wellbeing.

I really can't speak highly enough of the team on Ullswater Unit in Lakeview Care Home. My mom has been cared for wonderfully, with kindness and dignity in all aspects of her care. We are kept fully informed always and are welcomed when we visit. They are also particularly kind to my 93-year-old dad
when he visits my mom.

Lakeview was an unexpected find when my mother was transferred there from our local hospital for assessment. She has been a resident now for nearly 2.5 years, and although it’s ten miles from us, we would never choose to move her. The Ullswater team provides a knowledgeable, welcoming and attentive
service that is tailored to meet Mum’s needs. The team are experienced and cheerful and always on hand to help or advise. Mum is relaxed, happy and comfortable, and we are kept informed of everything and receive a regular call to check we’re happy with everything. Lakeview is like a family to us from the minute we arrive until we leave. The team know Mum personally and understands her preferences. They notice any changes in her and act upon them swiftly. I would totally recommend Lakeview to provide what is needed to support a family member with dementia and help the family better understand how to navigate the stages of this condition. Their empathy, knowledge and service are outstanding.

My mom has been a resident of Buttermere for 3 years. I can honestly say that she has been treated with respect and dignity during her stay and still is. I was telephoned with any changes to meds or doctor visits,, called regularly to ask if I had any concerns. 3 different meals to get her to eat. Nails
painted, hair done. Always washed and clean clothes. Allowed to see pets. Any things that have occurred I have emailed, been responded to shown all documentation and given explanations. Honestly can't fault them. The carers never stop always helpful and smiling. It's a tough job especially when emotions from families are involved. We all want the best for our loved ones and we certainly received it.
She is now on end of life and I have chosen to keep her at Lakeview where I know she has been safe and warm.

This institution is long overdue inspection. My mother (who is bed-bound) was resident here for approx 3 months and this review is based on her time on the Buttermere Unit. During this time several concerns were raised which were ignored, ultimately this ended with me demanding to speak to the home
manager where I raised a list of issues, ie: staff not answering call bells, my mother not being given the opportunity to brush her teeth, items missing from her room, being left in night clothes all day, staff being rough with her when moving her, nursing staff failing to request a doctors call for her pain, the list goes on.
When she became unwell staff were totally unaware of her medical conditions: The unit manager is poor. Her stay there ended when we as a family called an ambulance as she had become so unwell, following a 3 week stay in hospital we managed to have her returned home as she refused point blank to return there. This is not how people should be treated in their latter years.
Reply from Shelley Eggison, Care Home Manager at Lakeview Care HomeWe are truly sorry to receive your review and the concerns you have raised. During your mother’s short stay with us, she was very clear in her wishes to be back at her home rather than in care and we are pleased that this is now the case.

We do recognise the responsibility we have in caring for someone and do respect family and loved ones' advocacy on their behalf. There were shortfalls identified by her family which we have responded to in full and have acknowledged that there were instances where the standards of care were not at the levels you were right to expect. We do apologise for this and through this process will ensure that relevant lessons are learnt.

The care for my husband at Lakeview is excellent. I am from the NHS spanning 36 years so understand good patient care. The staff work long hours, are not well paid but are all stars. Sadly not enough permanent staff are evident and agency staff are used. Most are untrained and difficult to understand.
It's a sign of our time! If the pay was increased more regular staff could be tempted? A difficult one. As a relative, I feel my husband has gone but is still there! Worst than a bereavement. Dementia is an evil disease. I struggle and care. I can however take great comfort he is loved and well cared for, Thank you.

Too many bank nurses - no continuity of care.
Staff constantly reminded to keep off the footboard to prevent pressure areas.
The bed was flooded as the water drinker was switched on and not checked properly - no one noticed till I got there. Urine on the bathroom floor and unflushed toilet. Inadequate
stimulation for a patient who is only there as he was released from the hospital following two strokes. He does not have dementia but has been put in there. He spent 13 hours on a trolley in hospital after the home sent him there 2 days after arrival as he had refused his meal. I fed him and he did not need to go but the call was not cancelled - went on his own with no staff and no exclamation as to why. We got to him and got him back hours later.

My wife has been in care in this home since 2019.
She cannot speak and does not understand what is going on.
I visit several times a week and stay as long as I like now, but it is not easy to get under the skin of the operation.
The only real comment I can make is that senior management's communication
is poor.
