The team at Rider House are excellent and I cannot praise their dedication to the residents enough. I would be only too pleased to recommend Rider House to anyone. I have been involved with residents at Rider House from 2014 and, throughout that time, everyone has been cared for attentively and with
an emphasis on dealing with people as individuals.

Mum went in Ryder House just before Easter, she was very reluctant to go into care but agreed to respite. Now mum is very settled, happy and has made the decision to stay, something we never thought she would do, that’s down to the very friendly and attentive staff, they have been wonderful with Mum,
settling her in and helping her adjust.
Reply from Amanda Bisson, Registered Home Manager at Rider House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your wonderful and kind review. It has been our pleasure to help Mum settle in and welcome her and the family to Rider House.

I was in a bad state of mind this time last year, so I think it was my lucky day when I ended up at Rider House. I find all of the staff here very helpful and there is no one to dislike and nothing much to complain about.

Mum's care home was closing down. Given very short notice. Mum has advanced dementia, 92, sweet, loving, happy, tactile, fun, acquiescent and calm lady: no 'challenging behaviour' problems. Highly vulnerable. English is not her native language. Unable to speak but needs love, reassurance, and staff
who can 'read' her and anticipate her needs, give her their time and fuss over her, within a very calm environment. She also misses her garden. Very hard to find. Rider House Nursing Home, situated in lovely gardens and mature trees/private parkland, under the management of the Manager and her team of highly dedicated staff, tick all the boxes. No screaming alarms to disturb my mum who hates noise. Massively grateful, in the full knowledge that mum is so very well cared for and clearly content. I live quite a distance away and am unable to visit regularly, so I ask for photos and call for regular updates on mum's care, all of which are forthcoming. Home clean and mum always clean.
Reply from Amanda Bisson, Registered Home Manager at Rider House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your wonderful feedback. It is a pleasure to care for your Mum and get to know her family. We understand when families are so far away, how stressful it can be not to have sight of their loved ones regularly, so we will always endeavour to keep you updated on progress and activities that they like to participate in or be part of. Their smiles are our smiles and hopefully, your peace of mind.

Rider House offers excellent attentive, compassionate dignified care, and leadership, from individuals who have professional and personal experience within the Care sector; great staff ratios - nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff who always appear pleasant upbeat and jolly - the empathy for
residents exudes from staff! On considering a Care Home for your relative only use review websites as one means of investigation as providers can refuse for them to be published. Consider the environment! Rider House offers lovely quiet lounges with no loud call bell systems constantly ringing and a separate dining room, again aiding a peaceful environment. Unfortunately, Mum's previous placement lacked such and staff lacked the training to deal with her fluctuating dementia but I'm glad to say staff at Rider House nurture Mum with TLC and previous complaints of ill-treatment from Mum are no longer made: Rider House Nursing Home has restored our confidence. Thank You!

It is early days for my close friend to be at the Rider House Nursing Home, but in that time she and I have been greeted with such care and support, both from the home manager and every worker we have met.
The atmosphere as you enter is one of positivity and liveliness but professionalism.
It is
very bright and airy set in lovely maintained grounds.

Mum was at Rider House for three years. She received excellent care and was always treated with dignity and respect. The staff have a very difficult job sometimes but meet those challenges with such care, compassion and a cheerful disposition. The care shown to us towards the end of mum's life was exemplary.
I cannot thank them all enough.

My Mother entered Rider House from hospital during covid restrictions. From my first enquiry, Rider House helped me in every way possible to make choosing and Mum's transition to Rider House as easy as possible. When visiting was not possible, I was still able to contact Mum and the staff were all beyond
helpful when I rang to see how Mum was. Visiting was then possible in their pod, which was run so efficiently and with safety always at the forefront. I could tell Mum was happy and that the members of staff I saw with her were always so caring. Sadly my Mum has now passed away, but again the way the lovely staff at Rider House helped during Mum's last few days and this sad period I will forever be grateful for. I would be extremely happy to recommend Rider House to anyone.
Reply from Vicki Weller, Managing Director at Rider House Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words, and such a heartfelt review of our care home. The whole team at Rider are hardworking and caring and this shines through in the service we provide. It was a privilege for the team to look after your dear Mum. Best wishes from us all.

Rider House have provided excellent care treating my mum-in-law with great dignity and genuine tenderness. Although she is receiving palliative care they have enabled her to participate in mealtimes and activities in the dining room. She has enjoyed the fabulous food and endless cups of tea! Such a

New owner and management needing time to improve the running and efficiency of the home. Overall it is very satisfactory and residents are looked after in a safe home. Although improvements can always be made the first in my opinion is the laundry service when you buy new for your family and their name
is in it why is someone else wearing it when you visit? Time and time again when you check the wardrobe you have someone else's clothes and they must have theirs and yet room numbers and names can be seen all the time. Thank you.

Overall very happy with the home. The home always feels warm and welcoming and I feel my mum is well looked after. I do sometimes feel that the staff are overstretched. It would be nice if they had a small amount of time to chat with my mum. Most of the staff are friendly and do an amazing job. I feel
under the manager's leadership the home has a lovely family feeling.

Difficulties- Being taken back to his room after lunch, the same thing after tea sometimes has to wait along time, I understand they are busy.
Plus Side; Choir is doing a show. Craft class, keep fit, bingo, entertainer.
Meals; generally good, also very little choice of sandwiches.
Manager and all
the carers look after my husband excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.725)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.725) out of 10 for Rider House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.750 for Rider House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (172 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.75
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rider House Nursing Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

"I have worked at Rider House since December 2018. During this time, I have seen immense changes at Rider House, supported by the management team and the wonderful, caring staff that Rider has. This ensures that we always strive to be the best we can, providing the love and care that we all work hard to achieve and is expected from our residents, their families, and our supportive community.
I have worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years and have never had second thoughts about my chosen career path. After initially qualifying I worked in general medicine, progressing to oncology, chemotherapy, palliative and EOL care nurse specialist. This career progression enables me to provide the best care we can for all residents regardless of their needs and ill health, ensuring that they are supported to live as well and happy as they deserve. I am constantly seeking to get the best from the staff, but in a manner that recognises their value and worth so that their enthusiasm and genuine care helps us all to achieve our intended aims.”
