I worked in care for 14 years, I've been to lots of care homes and have been very concerned over the years. Rider House Nursing Home is a really lovely place from my mum, everyone is supportive and caring. I can visit and call and ask about Mum, always a positive response. I've seen exceptional patience
towards my mum and other residents their webpage always shows us the activities they do, Mum has settled. She shows no sign of distress which was paramount at home, great place for Mum 10/10.

Our sister came to you earlier in the year, having moved from a care home because of medical issues. She was having lots of problems previously, with mental health too. All of the issues have gone. She is happier and settled, and her quality of life has 100% improved. We can't tell you what this means
to us, relief, yes, both just that, the care and love all of your staff give us superb. Whenever we visit, our sister has her beautiful clothes., matched with her jewellery, which for her and us is so important. Alwats that extra mile. Thank you all so very much.

Our sister moved to Ryder House in April 23, and the care, support and love we have experienced have been amazing. The whole team maintains very high standards and is always friendly and supportive. The manager keeps us all really informed of any care plan changes. We are included in all decision-making,
and so is our sister. Their priority is to ensure their residents have a warm, loving environment and maintain their dignity and some control over their lives, which is so important. Thank you.

My sister moved to Rider House in April 23. This was the best decision we as a family have made. She needs full-time care because of her progressive MS. Since moving from her previous care facility, we have noticed a major change in her moods; she has been encouraged to join in activities which she
didn’t do before and is very happy and settled. The staff are all very caring and helped her settle in, and the staffing doesn’t change much, so she knows who is looking after her, which she finds very reassuring. The manager runs a tight ship, and it shows. She's always clean and well dressed, even down to matching jewellery for her outfits. Fantastic - cannot fault you in any way.
Reply from Amanda Bisson, Registered Home Manager at Rider House Nursing HomeThank you very much for the lovely review. It is a privilege to have your sister with us at Rider and to see her settle in so well. The support and dedication from all the family are outstanding, and the staff and I are very fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved with such wonderful residents and families.

I have been a visitor at Rider House for several years. My mum received end-of-life care, and my dad received nursing care for many years, and now my sister-in-law is a resident.
Rider House is just a very special place, and my first impression all those years ago was exactly right.
The home is
welcoming, spotless and, in my opinion, staffed by a very professional, caring team. I trusted them with those I loved, and they have always done their very best.
Well done, Rider House.

I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff who gave us a warm, friendly welcome yesterday when a group of us arrived to celebrate a relative’s birthday, we hoped to celebrate in the garden but the weather was not good, the staff made us comfortable in a room where we could all be together
and even brought us tea and cakes. You all do an amazing job and make sure guests and residents are happy, it shows in the atmosphere of the home.
Reply from Amanda Bisson, Registered Home Manager at Rider House Nursing HomeThank you Sandra for your kind words and lovely feedback. Rider House is a fantastic care home, when you first enter it has a friendly, warm, welcoming feel. Everyone who works there is so kind, friendly and supportive to my mum and when I visit. They are an extension to our family and this now includes the other residents that Mum has quickly formed a friendship
with. The care home, garden and facilities are immaculate and I couldn't wish for a better environment for Mum. They go the extra mile for significant events, everyone joins in and there is a strong connection with the local community. The home provides a full and varied life for Mum. She also has a weekly visit from the hairdresser, her optician visits are scheduled in the comfort of the home and this also includes the dentist. I believe Mum's general health has improved since she has been in Rider House. She is definitely enjoying her meals now, not because she has a great menu to choose from but they are so sociable. Mum is happy to be in Rider House and I am too.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the manager and staff that went above and beyond for caring for my mum, she loved it there. They took her to hospital appointments and eye appointments. They always had a laugh with all the residents and through covid, they encouraged them to join in the activities.

A fantastic care home. The manager was so helpful in arranging for mum to transfer to Rider House and throughout her, six month stay the staff were so kind, friendly and supportive. Mum was looked after with dignity and thoughtfulness and when she became very frail, her needs were met by the lovely
carers. She had familiar faces around her day and night, and they were so kind to me too, during such a difficult time. It was such a relief knowing that she didn't need to go into hospital; the nurses in the home made sure she was comfortable and her treatment updated as necessary. She was always clean and nicely dressed, with the hairdresser, chiropodist and optician visiting. The cleanliness throughout is excellent and the home-cooked meals and cakes are top quality; it was lovely to know she was going to eat in the dining room and spend time with other residents over meals. For me, seeing her at the carol service, all wrapped up warm and gazing at Santa, confirmed I had made the best choice for mum.
Reply from Amanda Bisson, Registered Home Manager at Rider House Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely feedback and kind words. It's reassuring that loved ones who require nursing care are looked after with love, dignity and respect. I have nothing but praise for the manager and staff who look after my mother and the other residents. Retaining staff over many years and rarely using temporary staff speaks volumes as to the working
environment at Rider. My mother is happy, well looked after and safe. When visiting, the home is always obliging on when we can meet, bedroom, garden or outside pods, and covid controls are still in place and adhered to with correct PPE being provided for visitors.

Fantastic care home which gives us all peace of mind given we live overseas and are not easily able to get back regularly. All staff seem to go above and beyond especially organising for us to call and video to speak with our granddad even with strange time zone differences. We visited the home in person,
recently and all staff were just as friendly in person and the facilities were very clean and all residents seemed very well cared for.
Reply from Amanda Bisson, Registered Home Manager at Rider House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind words and lovely review. We have been so pleased to meet you in person having travelled over from Australia but no one has been more delighted to see you and your brother than your grandad himself, you really have made his year. It is our pleasure to care for your grandad and be involved with such a lovely family. We appreciate how far away you and your mum are but will always make sure grandad has that vital communication with you. He really does adore you all and loves to chat so time differences are irrelevant when you see his face light up when you call.

Mum has been at Rider House since May 2021 following discharge from hospital and a previous awful stay at an assessment care home. Mum was very frail and in quite poor health when she arrived at Rider House, we had been told by the hospital that Mum’s life expectancy was not great, roll on a year later.
Thank you Rider House! Mum's physical and mental health is in a much better place, the dedicated team at the home have made such a difference to Mum’s quality of life, they are professional, they treat everyone with dignity and kindness, nothing is too much trouble. The home is clean and tidy and the gardens are immaculate, Mum spends a lot of time outside when the weather permits. As a visitor (almost every day!) I am always made to feel very welcome. I have nothing but praise for the manager and the whole team.

I came from New Zealand to see my dad. The welcome was outstanding, and I felt welcomed straight away. The manager is the most open, caring and professional person I have dealt with. cared for, and they keep me up to date with his progress. He loves the outings as well. Thank you so much, you guys; you are outstanding.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.725)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.725) out of 10 for Rider House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.750 for Rider House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (172 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.75
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rider House Nursing Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

"I have worked at Rider House since December 2018. During this time, I have seen immense changes at Rider House, supported by the management team and the wonderful, caring staff that Rider has. This ensures that we always strive to be the best we can, providing the love and care that we all work hard to achieve and is expected from our residents, their families, and our supportive community.
I have worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years and have never had second thoughts about my chosen career path. After initially qualifying I worked in general medicine, progressing to oncology, chemotherapy, palliative and EOL care nurse specialist. This career progression enables me to provide the best care we can for all residents regardless of their needs and ill health, ensuring that they are supported to live as well and happy as they deserve. I am constantly seeking to get the best from the staff, but in a manner that recognises their value and worth so that their enthusiasm and genuine care helps us all to achieve our intended aims.”
