My mother-in-law has been a resident for almost eleven months. We are always pleased with the standards of the home. It is clean, cheerful and tidy. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. On our last visit, there was almost an incident involving another resident potentially being violent towards
my mother-in-law. The staff noticed at once and de-escalated it with skill, kindness and compassion towards both parties. I honestly don’t think the standards could be any higher - which when we hear so much about shortages of staff in care homes and problems finding a good one, gives us great comfort. We know she is being very well cared for.

My dad was taken to Trentham House Care Home from the hospital. I was very worried that my dad would not settle and would not like being in a care home, as I had looked after him myself at his home. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible but I am so grateful to everyone at the home as he has settled
in well and says he likes it and is happy there. He is so well looked after and his every need is taken care of, cannot fault anything about the home.

In 2021 Trentham House Care Home provided end-of-life care for my late brother-in-law. I was so impressed with everything about the care they provided that when the time came to choose a nursing home for my parents it was a simple decision. As an ex-nurse I've had experience working in various care
homes and I can honestly say that the way Mum and Dad have been looked after is absolutely outstanding. The home is spotless, very well equipped and feels like a home from home with lots of personal touches but what makes it so special is the staff. It's not just the wonderful care staff but everyone from the managers to the laundry staff nothing is too much trouble and everyone goes the extra mile.

My experience of Trentham House Care Home over the last three months has been really good. The staff have looked after me well and I have felt safe and supported in my recovery. The physios have been very helpful, I required a piece of special equipment to enable me to go home which was done. Activity
options were good and I now have a new craft hobby. Definitely recommend this care home.

I have been a friend of the resident and Trentham House Care Home for twenty years. Since she has lived at Trentham House, I have been a visitor to see her. I have been very impressed with the courtesy and care of the staff towards me when I visit (often with our dog). I find the staff very helpful
and kind. My friend loves being at Trentham House and feels very cared for and safe in her room and within the environment. It is always a pleasure to visit her.

My grandparent is happy here. They enjoy days filled with engagement with the staff and other residents, enjoying simple activities like watching television either in their room or in the lounge or more involved planned activities such as bringing in musicians, playing bingo, enjoying arts and crafts
and much more. Furthermore, they enjoy excellent hearty meals, catering to each resident's individual needs and preferences.
The activities manager is wonderful and always looking to bring more fun to the residents' lives.
Much can be said for the rest of the staff. They are kind, compassionate, skilled and hardworking and dedicated to the betterment of my grandparent's life.
They care not only for the resident, with whom they work every day, but they also attend to you, whether you are family or friends, with massive importance, through whatever journey you are going through. The emotional support and care given by the staff have bolstered my family through difficult times.

I cared for my mother-in-law for a few years but the last 8 months have been very difficult. I was with her daily for hours so was hard for me to let go but it has been the best thing for her. She's thriving in there, with no worrying about falling, cooking etc. The staff really are so lovely and very
caring. She's never been so friendly with other ladies we couldn't be happier. Thank you.

My wife was happy at Trentham House. The carers were very friendly towards her and dealt promptly with various health issues as they arose. She participated in many activities, including visits to a local pub (she had to be pushed there in a wheelchair). Her room was kept very nice and clean, her laundry
was well processed. Visitors were always welcomed.

I have been disappointed with the care provided in the assessment unit over this period. The care staff during the day and the physiotherapists have been good but I have been less than satisfied with the nursing care, particularly in relation to UTI medication which my mother waited for 3-4 days before
receiving. I feel that dressing by the night staff was unacceptable as on several occasions, my mother had no underclothing and on one occasion, no dentures. Regularly, it was difficult to find someone to give information to about my mother and a very long wait for toileting too.
Reply from Teresa Moore, Joint Care Manager at Trentham House Care HomeThank you, whilst your mum was with us here on an assessment bed, she had 2 UTIs. First UTI was identified on 12/09/22 we contacted the GP, we sent an MSU to the hospital. The antibiotics were prescribed on the 13/9/22. The second UTI was identified on the 22/9/22 when we contacted the GP they requested a further MSU to be sent to the hospital which was completed. This process can take up to 72 hours or longer. The GP prescribed antibiotics on the 26.9.22. Looking into the dressing of your mum by the night staff we dealt with this as soon as you identified the concern. All staff had supervision, NOK were informed and a full apology was given via a telephone call by our trained member of the team. We have an open door policy and there are posters and leaflets around the home for relatives to discuss any concerns with trained staff or managers within Trentham House which was not accessed by the NOK.

Dad has been a resident at Trentham House for six months. He is cared for with compassion, empathy and he is quite content. The management, owner, care and support staff (our extended family) are always very professional, helpful, cheerful, always approachable and sincere. The private rooms are equipped
for all Dad's needs and as his health has changed, they source new equipment to help. Let the good work continue. I've visited many homes in the past and Trentham House is a cut above the rest.

My father has recently been admitted to Trentham House as an assessment bed patient. A few issues were raised that I would like to make below -
Most of the ground staff were good in the care they showed and assistance to my father. The main issue that I found was that in talking to higher levels of
staff, there was no evidence of assessments carried out, such as being able to do various functions on his own, as this would be required to return home. There were far too many departments involved in any section of care and assessment but these did not come together. It took me 5 weeks to get blood pressure to be recorded as this was a recent medical condition. I do have evidence of records made by the home that are clearly incorrect or not timely recorded. Finally, he has been at home now for over three weeks and despite leaving a list and being contacted to collect, which turned out to be incorrect, he is still waiting for some of his own clothes to be returned.
Reply from Tim Beech, Deputy Manager at Trentham House Care HomeThank you for your kind words regarding our care staff, we pride ourselves on high standards of care and we will pass this onto the care staff. In regards to the trained staff, your dad was on a Discharge to assess unit. This means that there are multiple professionals supporting your dad, here at Trentham House we assess the activities of daily living with the therapy team so your dad can reach his potential. In regards to his blood pressure, there was no instruction given to the home on the hospital letter from the hospital Drs. Therefore, as a home, we had no evidence to complete this need. However, once you brought this to our attention this was implemented. During your dad's stay with us he was assessed and reviewed by our GP and his medical needs were identified and were acted and treated on. In regards to the misplaced items, please contact the managers who will look into this for you.

Trentham care home is ideally situated with lovely outside areas. The ensuite room is a good size with nice furniture. The room is, however, looking a little worn and could do with basic painting and decorating. The permanent staff are professional, helpful and friendly. The family are contacted with
updates on Mum and if she is injured or sick. We don't think the food is always appropriate for the elderly.
Reply from Teresa Moore, Home Manager at Trentham House Care HomeTrentham House is really pleased you enjoy the outdoor area whilst visiting your mum. We will feedback on your kind comments about the care staff which is greatly appreciated. We will also speak to the catering manager to liaise with you and your mum about your mum's preferences. Thank you so much for your comments and constructive criticism. We will now prioritise your mum's room on the refurbishing schedule.

Mum was admitted to Trentham House care home at the start of the first lockdown (pandemic). The family couldn't accompany Mum - I stood on the drive of the care home to wave to her in the ambulance. Mum was confused and felt abandoned by her family. I worried so much, it was heartbreaking. The staff
made Mum welcome immediately, putting her at ease, facilitating phone contact and later, pod contact, during the lockdown. Since I've visited inside, I cannot praise the staff enough for their dedication, hard work under extreme circumstances, attention to detail, care, nursing care and activities.

My mum was transferred from hospital to Trentham House. I was so impressed on my arrival, at the security and cleanliness, which is foremost when visitors arrive. The room, food and care Mum is receiving is excellent. I have total peace of mind that she is residing there, as I live over 100 miles away.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.862) out of 10 for Trentham House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.862 for Trentham House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (306 Excellents x 5) + (47 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 354 Ratings = 4.862
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Trentham House Care Home is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 95 registered maximum number of service users is 19, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
