My husband spent just two weeks respite at Cherry Trees and came home with serious pressure sores. He had no sign of pressure sores anywhere on his body as a body check was carried out at home prior to admission. A district nurse and his carers at home can testify to that. No one from the home contacted
me during his stay to say that there was a problem at any time. Nearly three months later the heels are still being treated and have yet to heal. I have contacted the home and Barchester head office several times and have been fobbed off, I have never received an explanation let alone an apology.
Reply from Debbie Osborne, General Manager at Barchester Cherry Trees Care HomeHi Mary, Thank you for your review. I am so sorry to read this, I do really appreciate you taking the time to talk with me last week and I hope I have answered your concerns, please do let me know if I can offer you any further support. Kind Regards Cherry Trees, General Manager.

We arranged an outside visit for three adults and one child, aware that this would mean the use of a 'pod' in the event of poor weather. On arrival (we were prompt), staff did not seem to be aware that a visit was booked (this has been a feature of most of our visits) and it was several minutes before
the bell was answered. We were then advised that an external pod was now in use for such visits. On arrival at this pod, we found the power was not connected. It has no external windows so it was dark and cold, and no one knew how to connect the power. Your staff arrived with our relative about 15 minutes after our arrival and was inadequately protected in view of the poor weather. I had to return to reception three times to get someone to switch the power on, which eventually happened about 40 minutes after our arrival. With no staff immediately available, we brought our relative back to her room as she was shivering, and had to wait in the rain at the gate as we were given the wrong access code.
Reply from Debbie Osborne, General Manager at Barchester Cherry Trees Care HomeI am so sorry that this happened to you on your visit and I can assure you that we do everything we can to make people feel welcome. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to have happened on this occasion, I have addressed all of your issues and I can assure you that this will not happen again. If you would like to contact me further to discuss I would like to be able to listen to your concerns and reassure you that we do always try to provide dignified care for all. Kind regards

Mum has been a resident for three years now, initially with my father up until his death. Mum is very settled and happy which is due to the excellent care she receives. All the staff are kind and caring and she has a good relationship with them all. Activities are available every day and mum joins in
and enjoys them all. Since the new Manager and her team took over Cherry Trees has become a more vibrant happy place and nothing is too much trouble.

Now that my mother has settled into Cherry Trees and we as a family are adjusting to her being in residential care, I can not praise the Manager and her team enough. They have worked so hard to build a caring and supportive relationship with my mother who, in fairness due to her MND, has quite demanding
and complex needs. Everyone within the Cherry Trees team has worked so hard to meet our expectations, provide support and reassurance and to facilitate all of the external health professional visits needed. The home itself is comfortable, welcoming and of a high standard. I feel confident that my mother is well cared for and feeling more at ease within her new surroundings. I would add that, as a frequent visitor, the team are always patient, helpful and welcoming to me personally as well which provides great reassurance.
Reply from Debbie Osborne, General Manager at Barchester Cherry Trees Care HomeThank you Philip for your kind words. Looking after your mother is a pleasure and I am so happy to hear how well you have all been treated. I will pass on your kind words to the team. Debbie

My dad has only been on Memory Lane since the end of December 2021. However, during this short period of time, the care he has received has been outstanding. The home has a very friendly atmosphere and there is always someone available to speak to me when I visit. The decision to move dad to a nursing
home was emotionally difficult but I know it was the right decision and that he is being extremely well looked after.
I did have a few issues with getting dad into care at first but have to say the Manager, has been exceptional.
It's not easy having a parent in care and relying on other people to look after them but I know dad is in the best possible place and will receive the best care possible.
Thank you

From the very first call I had with Barchester Cherry Trees Care Home I knew my mother was in safe hands.
Following a terrible leg infection and a bad previous experience from another care home. All staff members have been without doubt to ensure that all possible care has been taken to make my mothers
recovery as comfortable as possible. The quality of care is exceptional and everyone always finds the time to chat and nothing is too much trouble. A real home from home.
Reply from Debbie Osborne, General Manager at Barchester Cherry Trees Care HomeThank you, looking after your mum is a privilege and we will always ensure she is looked after with dignity and respect as she deserves. Debbie

The care provided to my mother has been wonderful especially during Lockdown. My criticism would be the lack of communication. During lockdown, I could never find an appropriate time to call and ask after my mother. A quick 5-minute update call with details of any toiletry needs would have been welcome.
The menus are increasingly unimaginative.

First let me say, what a lovely home Cherry Tree is. Lovely, light rooms and pretty gardens. These past 15 months, as you know, we couldn't see our loved ones but when able Barchester made these pods for short visits and of course recently we are now able to have bedroom visits which is marvellous.
My thanks go to all carers, who although in change of the virus, themselves still came to look after our loved ones, making sure they were safe and cared for, even though they had families of their own. Of course, the kitchen, facilities and admin also played their parts. As things get better, let's all remember what we owe the staff at Cherry Trees a big thank you, also to Barchester for their weekly visits.

Sadly my mother passed away recently however she spent her last ten months being cared for at Cherry Trees in Alcester. Despite the difficult times due to covid restrictions, the team worked tirelessly to ensure the residents were safe, happy and entertained. My mother always appeared well cared for
and content and I will be forever grateful to all the staff for everything they did for her.

My mother has been resident for almost a year now. Despite the complications and restrictions that Covid-19 has created I can say that I'm most impressed with the care that she has received from all the staff. It cannot be easy especially because of the physical disabilities that my mother now has since
her major stroke. When I have had to interact with any of the staff (Managers/Nurses/Carers/Office Staff) they have always been polite, well informed and helpful. This contact (phone/email/visit) hasn't been very often, because of Covid, but it has been regular - at least once a month.
I've not yet been inside the building - because all the visits I've had so far have been 'in a pod' or 'at the door of my mother's room'. I'm looking forward to lockdown easing and proper visiting starting.
A big "thank you" to all the staff.

My personal view of the Cherry Trees Care Home is limited as I have not been able to visit my father inside his bedroom for the past eight months. However, in the previous years 2013-2019 when my mother was a resident also, I dealt with problems when they manifested. They were usually dealt with but
not all the time. However, now the use of agency staff has stopped due to Covid, things have greatly improved. Residents need to know and trust their carers!
Reply from Debbie Osborne, General Manager at Barchester Cherry Trees Care HomeThank you for your review. I took over the management of the home in March 2020 and have made many changes including no agency usage. The designated visiting pods have been a great success and although indoor visits have not been going ahead we have been lucky to able to use these and our gardens in good weather. It is great you have seen the improvements in the home and I am always available to speak to if you have any issues or concerns.

I'm not sure the words I write here will do Cherry Trees justice - they are faultless in everything they do, and the level of the care both my Grandparents received has brought comfort to us at a time when we haven't been able to visit. Sadly my Grandfather passed at the height of Covid-19, and at a
time when staff were already extremely busy, however, we couldn't have asked for more from the care he received during his final days - the carers treated him as though he were their own Father/Grandfather/Great Grandfather. Cherry Trees gave both my Mum and Aunt comfort in knowing my Grandfather was well cared for during a time that was difficult to comprehend. I only have good things to say about Cherry Trees, but it wouldn't be what it is without the wonderful staff who are truly dedicated to the level of care they provide, whilst making the home an enjoyable and stress-free for my Gran who has dementia. Thank you, Cherry Trees, for all your work.

I just wanted to to say a big thank you to all of the staff at Cherry Trees for looking after my dad so well in these very challenging times, knowing he is safe and well cared for means so much to us as a family. Recently we have been through a difficult time and I would like to say a particular thank
you to the manager, administrator and the receptionist for being so supportive and understanding in what was very unsettling times for us all. It was so reassuring to know everyone at Cherry Trees (all staff) wanted to help and most of all wanted the best outcome for my dad, it clearly showed how much the 'Cherry Trees Family' are so strong and work together so well and do go the extra mile when needed to look after their residents as well as their families. I can not thank them enough for their continued support and care, nothing is ever too much trouble for them. Thank you to everyone at Cherry Trees for your amazing hard work, you are all so very much appreciated and valued.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.780)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.780) out of 10 for Barchester Cherry Trees Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.892 for Barchester Cherry Trees Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (165 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 185 Ratings = 4.892
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.888 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Cherry Trees Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 81 registered maximum number of service users is 16.2. 16 Positive Reviews ÷ 16.2 = 0.988
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Having initially joined Cherry Trees as the Head of Care. After a career in teaching and caring for children, my promotion to General Manager of Cherry Trees Care Home has enriched my passion for ensuring our resident's specific care and nursing needs are met and are the core of the wonderful work the team does here.

Staff training and development is of the utmost importance to me, as a qualified trainer for Barchester Healthcare, I ensure that our team are up-to-date with the latest research, policies and best practices, so that I can enhance the quality of care delivered throughout the home.

I am committed to the delivery of person-centred care and focus on what residents can do, not what they can't. I promote independence and well-being and consider working in this sector to be a privilege, not a job.

I am dedicated to ensuring the delivery of high-quality care by my team and endeavour to create happiness amongst residents at Cherry Trees.

My door is always open if you wish to discuss your care or that of a loved one and I look forward to meeting you soon.

These diverse settings have shaped my approach to care, giving me a deep appreciation for compassion, cultural understanding, and high clinical standards.

I am genuinely passionate about nursing and take great pride in my role as Clinical Lead Nurse here at Cherry Trees. Working with our residents on Young at Heart is incredibly rewarding, and I am committed to supporting their wellbeing and providing consistent, person-centred care for many years to come.

The team at Cherry Trees has been wonderfully supportive, and I feel very happy and settled in my role. Being part of such a dedicated and caring environment motivates me every day, and I look forward to continuing to grow with the team and contribute to the exceptional care we provide.
