Alexandra House is an excellent nursing home for my father who has severe dementia. All of the staff have been caring and pragmatic with a willingness and kindness to do their best for my father. Liaison with the NHS, Social Services and the Local Authority has been exemplary.

As a family, we have been very pleased with the excellent care at Alexandra Care Home. The managers and staff have all taken time to understand and care for the needs of my father-in-law. These needs have grown more challenging during his stay and staff have been kind considerate and caring at all times.
The
manager is always available to discuss care plans and overall care. The care staff have taken the time to understand my father-in-law’s needs and work hard to ensure that his residency is well managed and caring. The facilities are well looked after and managed, with regular activities and parties for Xmas and special occasions. I would highly recommend it.
Reply from Helen Brett, Operations Manager at Alexandra Care HomeThank you. We will ensure the carers have your lovely feedback and thank you for your kind comments.

No one wants to think about having to find a care home for a loved one. When we needed to find a care home some years ago now and having checked out quite a few, we were very pleased to secure a place at Alexandra Care Home. He has now been a resident there for some time and although his health has
deteriorated I know he is well cared for and his general health is monitored and any adjustments needed to his care are sorted out and implemented.
Reply from Helen Brett, Operations Manager at Alexandra Care HomeThank you for the kind comments, Ann. No one plans to go to a care home and it's up to us as providers to make it a home-from-home and work with families to do the best for their loved ones. I'm so pleased you're happy with the care at Alexandra, thank you.

This relates to my Dad's first couple of weeks only, but first impressions were very good. Taking Dad with my 85-year-old Mum to a care home was a very stressful and difficult time. Staff demonstrated skill and care in dealing with the situation. All staff I met on visits during his first two weeks
were friendly, helpful and obviously keen to help Dad settle in and were building relationships with him. Although very sad at my Dad having to move into a care home, the initial experience and observations gave me confidence that he was being well looked after and supported at Alexandra Court.
Please note; Feedback below is based on limited experience of some areas and covid restrictions. For example, activities and furnishings. Also, Dad moved to a different room (for understandable reasons), but to a less pleasant one, which is reflected in the facilities/room rating. The garden is lovely.

I cannot praise the staff here highly enough. My father was a resident receiving palliative care at Alexandra and despite Covid restricted visiting we were made to feel welcome. The care and compassion he received was excellent and he was clearly very well cared for. The compassion we were shown on
the night he died was outstanding.

Our elderly, dementia suffering, mother has spent the last five months at Alexandra. I can not overstate the phenomenal standard of care received during this time. She has been carefully dressed and prepared each day, quality food and drink is provided, not only at designated meal times, but on demand
at any time of day or night. The staff at every level have been both attentive and genuinely caring whilst looking after her every need. It has been a relief to find somewhere providing this quality of care.
Also, of importance, has been the warmth which family members have received when visiting. We shall be forever grateful to every member of staff involved in her care and well-being.

Our mother was admitted into Alexandra mid-November 2019 and from day one she has only received the highest level of care, understanding and kindness. The thoughtfulness of all the staff has been more than we could have hoped for. Nothing seems to be too much trouble if we ask for something to be done
it happens without having to ask twice. The staff take care to make sure that she is dressed nicely each day and her room is always very clean and tidy, as is the whole environment. If she gets up early somebody makes sure she has a drink and a little something to eat until it's breakfast time. One member of staff has even recorded how to look after her bonsai tree - amazing.
The company ethos of kindness has been totally embraced by every member of staff at Alexandra. As a family, we would like to thank all the staff for making our mother's life calmer and happier.

My father has been in the home for two years and has at times been "difficult" for the nurses and carers who have all treated him with patience and kindness. He is kept clean and tidy and is happy with his surroundings. He enjoys his food and his carers encourage him and ensure he has his favourite
foods. What a place, what more could I ask for?

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.545)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.545) out of 10 for Alexandra Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.795 for Alexandra Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (97 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 117 Ratings = 4.795
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alexandra Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
