Whenever I visit my mom she is always dressed nicely, has her hair combed and looks cared for and for that I'm very grateful. If she could speak I know she would say 'thank you'.

I find the care my mother in law receives is excellent. All the staff are very kind and extremely helpful. Any questions you ask are always answered. If you ask for any help it is always given. All the residents are treated with respect and dignity.

This care home is lovely. Very clean and pleasant. Your staff are excellent. My only criticism is that you seem short of staff, a couple more carers would be good. My mum has no complaints about the food or the general care, but she seems to spend all day just sitting and not getting any kind of exercise.

Thank you for your review, our staffing levels are monitored and allocated according to resident’s dependencies within the home and these are reviewed on a regular basis. We now have a new Wellbeing Co-ordinator within the home and I have asked that she spends time with your mother to identify any existing and new activities along with any exercise that she would like to participate in. As you are aware, I operate an open door policy within the home and therefore you are welcome to speak to me at any time.

We are really happy with the home BUT the lack of staff who are (caring) and management has been a cause for concern. The remaining carers and housekeepers should be rewarded for sticking with the situation such as a pay rise for such lovely girls. Would like to see more structured activities, not the
craft side but more homely pursuits and one to one conversations with residents.

Although our mother was only in this home for a short time, we found the way she was looked after was great. All the staff were kind, considerate and friendly. The room our mother had was quite large and well maintained. A friend or family member would visit her most days and we were never made to feel
unwelcome, even when six adults and my four year old granddaughter turned up all at the same time, they did not mind. We were really pleased that we managed to find somewhere so nice and in a lovely and convenient location.

Mum spent just over a week in the care home for end of life care. The environment was warm and welcoming as were the staff. This was a difficult time emotionally for the family but the staff were kind and supportive in particular the staff were very considerate of my 90-year-old dad.

My husband spent three years in Victoria Park Care Home he seemed quite content as he had dementia so he couldn't let me know the staff were very understanding with him and respected him as he needed assistance with everything the management team and nurses were very kind and helpful keeping me in the
picture all the time. I truly recommend this care home to anyone.

The staff were very caring and looked after mum very well.
They were very approachable and always gave me the time to talk to them.
The home itself was very clean and had a lovely atmosphere as soon as you walked in.

Victoria Park Care Home is a very friendly, calm and happy home. My mother is always cared for whenever she needs anything. Christmas activities have been very received, with a pantomime, Christingle service, lantern walk and entertained by two really good singers, followed by a buffet tea.
The home
has been decorated nicely for Christmas and residents have been busy making cards for their families and crafts.

My father became a resident here in September 2016 on end of life care. It is a great relief to know that he is being well looked after at the end of his life. All staff are kind, considerate and very pleasant. Very rarely have I seen anyone without a welcoming smile. My father loves the food. He is
comfortable and all his needs are met.

The care our mother has received to date is very good. The staff are caring and professional. They treat our mother with care and dignity. They make time to talk to our mother and make visitors very welcome. The home is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. Hygiene standards are high. The rooms are
clean and nicely decorated. The home is well managed. The manager is approachable and "hands on". We would recommend this nursing home.

Introducing Shini Jose, Home Manager at Victoria Park, Ilkeston


What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“To me, kind care means being willing to put the needs of others first and treating them with kindness, compassion, dignity and respect.”


As a registered nurse with continuing health care assessor experience, Shini has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for residents.


Talking about her decision to work in the care sector, Shini said:


“I love caring, as caring for others is incredibly rewarding and I can positively influence the lives of other people”.


As Home Manager for Victoria Park, Shini closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Shini remarked:


“I like making connections with people and I enjoy being part of the team, and I like being able to make a positive influence and help make people feel happy and safe. I get called "Smiley" instead of Shini, as people seem to always remember my smiley face rather than my name!”


Outside of work, Shini enjoys reading and is trained in Indian classical dances.
