My father kept falling at his warden controlled flat so we all agreed, including my father, to look for a care home. After visits to different care homes, Brookfields felt right and it has proved an excellent decision. Dad is so settled and well looked after by all at Brookfields. They all meet him
and us with a smile and friendly chat, nurses, cooks and cleaners. He now looks smart, healthy and has lots of interaction with staff and residents which has made his world a little larger. Fabulous place, would highly recommend it.

I have had an involvement with Brookfields Private Nursing Home Ltd for three and a half years, on and off. My father had two spells as a resident, and my mum is currently in her second spell as a resident. Throughout, I have found the staff to be caring, friendly and professional. My mum is happy there
and I'm happy with the care she receives.

My husband has been a resident at Brookfields since January 2019. During this time he has received constant excellent care and consideration. The home is a ‘home from home’ and his comforts and needs have been met with patience and kindness. An added bonus is that resident's relatives are treated as
members of the Brookfields family. During the pandemic lockdowns, the high standards were maintained with the care staff making sure, they disregarded their own health, that their residents lacked for nothing. Brookfields will always rate as the first choice for a nursing home.

Brookfields Private Nursing Home was recommended by a person whose mother was there.
Management were very helpful in handling my initial query and then in finding my mother a place.
Staff were kind and caring and the chef made real efforts to provide food she liked.
My mother was comfortable and
well looked after until she died.
I am pleased to recommend Brookfields to anyone.

When I knew Dad would need nursing care, I realized I would be unable to visit homes due to the pandemic. A friend recommended Brookfields. I took her advice and was so grateful. My first phone conversation with Brookfields was friendly and positive. Dad was quickly transferred from hospital and I was
allowed to visit straight away. I was helped to do a covid test by a friendly member of staff - a great relief as I'd never done one before. When I visited Dad the next day he looked so clean and settled and staff came to talk to us (with a coffee and biscuit for me) to find out about his needs and likes. This caring attitude continued throughout the 3 weeks up to his death. If Dad needed care during my visits, he was attended to as soon as possible - always with smiles and cheery conversation. During his last hours, staff cared for him so gently and cared for me too by explaining what was happening and supporting both of us at such a difficult time. Thank you, Brookfields.

My Mum moved into Brookfields at the end of 2019. I hadn't wanted to put her into a home until she was ready to make the decision herself but, at the age of 95, she felt that she could no longer look after herself. I already knew of Brookfields, as my Grandma (Mum's mother) had spent some time there
several years ago when she was in her nineties.
As far as I could tell, Mum was very happy there (she died in July 2021) and, from the outside, it certainly seemed that she was well treated and looked after, particularly through the difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic. There was never any feeling of institutionalism, and all of the staff with whom I interacted were friendly as well as efficient. The fact that, when I visited, the staff knew who I was, and who I'd come to see, showed me just how personal the approach was. I think Brookfields could be summed up as "Large enough to be efficient, but small enough to be homely".

Brookfields is a very friendly home. Whenever I telephone I am always spoken to in a very helpful and friendly way. When I visit I am always made very welcome. My friend is very happy at Brookfields and is extremely well looked after. The staff are well aware of how much she misses her husband with
whom she shared a room.

My first visit - and so impressed! My 93-year-old uncle is so happy, well cared for and comfortable (after a lifetime in his own home) that my fears for his welfare, following the death last year of his wife, have been completely dispelled. Our meeting in the pod (more like a comfortable Wendy house
than the shed I was expecting!) was such a happy, relaxed occasion. So thank you all, from manager down - or up!

My mother has been in Brookfields for a couple of years now, and has settled extremely well and appears to be in the best of health. The staff and food are excellent, and during the last 12-months during Covid, the staff have worked hard to keep Covid out while allowing visits by relatives.

The care and compassion shown by every member of the Brookfields team, both nursing, care and non-medical has been fantastic. At every occasion, me and my family felt genuinely and sincerely cared about, as much as our Mum. Truly, after leaving the hospital, Mum could not have been cared for any better,
and for that, we thank all the Brookfields team.

I feel continually reassured that the staff at Brookefields really do care about their residents. Having two family members at the home, I have regular contact with the staff, and all are friendly and professional. The nursing and management staff are always available to speak to no matter what the
issue is. The home has really looked after the residents throughout the pandemic and has always put their health and welfare first. No words can cover the gratitude that my family feels towards the home and all the staff who has played an important role to keep my family as safe as possible. The home is warm, welcoming and clean, and has a real homely feel. I can't recommend it highly enough.

My father was not at Brookfields for many weeks, but the change in him was amazing within just three days of being there. He was no longer distressed and crying, but at times almost cheerful, despite his frailty. The staff were truly caring and concerned and did all they could to make him comfortable.
They were in the process of reviewing his medical care properly and looking at him as an individual.
Sadly, Dad passed away in mid-February, but I feel he was able to slip gently away because he could relax and know he was being truly cared for. All this despite the staff having to deal with Covid (though Dad did not succumb to that).
My mother had been here for 8 years, until 10 years ago, and some staff still remembered her, and Dad's daily visits to her.
I can't recommend this Home highly enough; it is what they all should be like, but sadly are not.

My Mother was resident at Brookfields for 3 years. She received excellent care from all staff during this time. The home has a wonderful friendly and welcoming style and promotes ongoing involvement of family members and friends.
Whilst she was well enough, Mum enjoyed the many activities on offer,
including shopping trips, film nights, crafts, quizzes and bingo. Mum also enjoyed the parties and many celebrations organised by Brookfields.
Although the recent 'lockdown' periods have been very difficult for all concerned, I feel that the staff made every effort to facilitate contact by FaceTime, telephone calls, garden and window visits and controlled visits in person when necessary.
I am very grateful for all the care, compassion and love demonstrated to Mum. Many thanks to the real 'A' team.

Brookfields provided a ‘personal-centred’ package of care and love for the last three years of her life. She was treated like family. Having been heartbroken that we could no longer care for her in our own home due to her complex needs, we could relax, knowing how well she was being looked after. When
my mother-in-law died, her end of life care was also superb, allowing her the luxury of a peaceful, comfortable death which anyone would wish for themselves.
Also how much trouble they went to in organising trips out for her, eg garden centre, shopping etc, as well as activities on the premises eg Bingo, feeding lambs in the day room!
Well done Brookfields, and thank you!

Our Mum was admitted to Brookfields in Jan 2017, with a prognosis of 6 months. Through the care and attention that she received, plus her own strong will, she managed to fight her cancer for a further 3.5 years, improving enough to be able to spend time out with family, visits from friends, and to meet
a new great-grandson for the first time. As family members, we were always made to feel welcome and the staff was very supportive when Mum became very ill earlier this year. The care she received in her final days was full of love and gave her the dignity and peaceful end that she deserved. Throughout her stay at Brookfields, she enjoyed her relationship with the staff members and made some new friendships with some residents. She was able to contribute to the regular resident's forums - she never had a problem letting people know her views! The home was always very clean and there was a good choice of food available to meet a range of tastes.

My Mum has been at Brookfields for the last 5-years. The care she has received is excellent. She needs a lot of help on a daily basis, and the staff are very kind and caring. The food is very good and varies weekly. Mum's room is lovely, spacious and kept spotlessly clean.
The testing times we are
experiencing at present have been difficult for us all, as my sister and I have not been able to visit Mum due to the coronavirus. We phone regularly for an update on Mum, and the staff are always very reassuring and cheerful. They are doing an amazing job, and we really appreciate how much they are having to deal with at the moment. Thank you all. Hope to see you all as soon as it is safe to come back!

My wife, suffering from terminal cancer, was admitted with minimum delay and maximum care, understanding and efficiency. She experienced professional care, given in a competent but understanding way which made her passing as comfortable and sympathetic as possible for her and her loved ones. She never
had the opportunity to experience all the homes facilities, but her room, bathing and food, and all nursing and care arrangements were first class.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.949)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.949) out of 10 for Brookfields Private Nursing Home Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.949 for Brookfields Private Nursing Home Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (298 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 314 Ratings = 4.949
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brookfields Private Nursing Home Ltd is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have always wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember. I trained in Derby in 1988 at the age of 17 which was the soonest I could train at both the DRI and City Hospital. I qualified in 1991 and went on to work in a local nursing home. Over the 29 years I have worked as a nurse or manager in local homes, I found the best one (Brookfields) in August 2018.
