Your fees cover several areas while in their care.
These services are: Personal care, accommodation,
utilities, use of communal areas, meals, drinks and
snacks, laundry (excluding dry cleaning),
housekeeping, maintenance and activities run by the

Services NOT included in price are: dentistry, chiropody,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, opticians, hairdressing,
medications, toiletries, clothing, newspapers/magazines.
During your stay, you may need to purchase additional goods
and services. If they are able to provide such goods and
services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
services at the time you request them.
They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
be paid for by yourself.

After reviewing eight homes of suitability for care for my mother, I chose Beckside for the following reasons: (1) the number of care staff available over 24 hours was visibly greater than all other homes visited (2) level of cleanliness was better (3) fresh food prepared in own kitchens. The care and
attention received during my mother's year of occupation lived up to expectations as being very good. The only downside was that room was quite small, but adequate.

We visited a large number of care homes in the area and used some for respite care before deciding on Beckside.
The level of care and attention afforded by the staff far exceeded any others and we were more than pleased with the decision to put Mum in their kind and compassionate home.

My mum needed 24-hour care and after much research I chose Beckside. It has a good reputation especially end of life care. I wanted a 'home' for Mum where she could make friends and have an active social life. Beckside has a great activity programme and family and visitors are always welcome. It looks
on to a lovely park and is so easy to get to. She had her own room and facilities too. Unfortunately for my mum, it was too late but Beckside's end of life care was wonderful. She always said the ladies were killing her with kindness! Mum liked a whisky and they didn't mind. I couldn't have wished for her to be anywhere else when she passed away!

To be able to leave your much loved, frail and elderly parent in the care of a nursing home in total confidence that they are safe, secure and happy is precious beyond belief! Beckside gave us that confidence on a daily basis. Every single member of staff throughout each discipline treated my mother
and us as if we were a part of their family. Each one displayed an innate kindness and concern for our well being that we will never forget. My Mother's last weeks were peaceful thanks to this fabulous place! As her illness progressed I was practically living in the home too, so I saw and heard how staff interacted with each other and residents at all hours of the day and night. I witnessed only care, compassion and good humour even when staff were dealing with immensely challenging situations. I heartily recommend Beckside to everyone in the knowledge they brought peace to our family at the most traumatic time - Thank you Beckside Staff - each and every one of you!

My mum came to live at Beckside Care Home initially for palliative care. Her initial fears were quickly relieved by the friendly welcome and homely atmosphere. She chose her room and a comfortable recliner chair was provided for her use. In fact, my mum outlined her original diagnosis by over a year

My mother has been a resident at Beckside nursing home for approximately 6 months. This has been life changing and at times a traumatic time for our family. However, the skill and compassion shown to our family have made this time bearable. The staff are kind and caring. The meals are great and plentiful
and a fantastic range of activities are organised for those who wish to join in. The fabric of the building is showing signs of wear but the staff themselves make Beckside a first class establishment. I cannot thank them enough for making us feel that our mother is safe and cared for when we needed help.

I observe that residents are treated with respect, are encouraged to be active and sociable and are well cared for. The majority of staff are friendly, understanding and provide a good all round standard of care, appropriate to the individual.
The home has a welcoming atmosphere, is clean and free
from unpleasant odours.
Residents clothes and belongings are well cared for. The provision of services, like hairdressing and chiropody, is very helpful.
During the last weeks of my aunt's life, her care was well managed, sensitive and appropriate, I appreciated that.

The staff were very attentive and always made time to come and talk to us about mums care.

My mother came to Beckside for end of life care. The home itself is very well kept, tidy, well maintained. The room my mother had was well furnished and maintained. The staff and managers could not have been kinder or more accommodating.
Nothing was too much trouble and they were very approachable
and understanding at a very sad time. The room was also very clean with easy accessibility.

My dad initially went to Beckside for 2 weeks respite as he was struggling been on his own following the death of my mum a few months previously. As he was also requiring help and support for his palliative care. He then remained at Beckside for a number of weeks until he passed away due to deteriorating
health.
As a family, we were impressed with the care and time spent caring for dad and us as well. I can't praise highly enough how he was looked after and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others considering Beckside for a loved one.

When my uncle first arrived, I had a few issues I went through with the manager. She gave me reassurance and a letter, a nurse was extremely helpful. I live 5 hours away and she registered the death for me. Took a lot of the worry off for me.

My dear friend arrived in Beckside after a short spell in the hospital a few weeks ago and sadly died there this week. I was able to visit him on several occasions at Beckside. This was my first ever experience of visiting a Care-home. I can't find enough praise for the quality of the care I observed.
His room was more than adequate (given his circumstance - being torn away from his own home due to old age medical issues). The staff were just fabulous in every respect from the moment I pressed the button at the front door, the courtesy I experienced, and the dedication of the team to my friend's needs was extremely impressive.

Mum was in the last weeks of her life.
It was necessary to complete an advanced care plan.
A senior carer headed the meeting and treated mum very kindly with great empathy, enabling the form to be completed without distress.
As with all two years of her stay she was treated with much kindness, empathy
and helped retain her dignity.
In the final week, great compassion from every member of staff was observed.

The last few months of my mother's life was spent at Beckside where she was cared for with love and dignity. All the members of staff no matter what their position at Beckside found time to chat with the residents my mother being no exception. At the end of my mother's life mum was kept clean, comfortable

The decision to move my Mum into a care home was an extremely difficult and sad decision for the family to take. However, the manager at Beckside was very understanding and helped us by not putting any pressure on us and giving us time to come to terms with the decision. When Mum moved in she was moved
from the hospital and began in a nursing bed, but later she moved into a normal residents room as she felt more settled and secure.
Mum suffered from a severe eating disorder and was unable to walk due to weakness, but it was clear that the staff at Beckside understood her particular needs. As a family, we found that someone was always available to talk to if we had a problem or concern. I believe the staff at Beckside always put my Mum first in terms of her priorities and needs and we are extremely grateful for this and couldn't have asked for anything more.

I find the staff at the Beckside very friendly and approachable.
It is a very difficult situation when your loved one is suffering from dementia so it is vital that a care provider also takes family members' emotions into account, which includes providing support (to some extent) and talking to them,
Beckside does this.
My father also feels that my mother is well looked after.
He agrees that the staff are very good which is a relief as there's nothing more important than receiving good care which as we have discovered at a previous home can be hard to find.

Andrea

Andrea Brooks

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 1995

Andrea began her career with the Trust in September 1995 as a relief carer working in the residential and nursing unit, gaining invaluable experience working with the nursing team. Andrea went on to be promoted to the role of Senior Carer and, at that time, achieved her NVQ Level 2. Andrea then went on to become a Care Leader and achieved her NVQ Level 3. Andrea later became a Home Manager and achieved her QCF Diploma Level 5.


Andrea loves coming to work and has an excellent bond with her team and the residents. Andrea has an open-door policy and welcomes anyone who would like to meet with her.


One of the fond memories is meeting the Duke of Gloucester, which was an amazing day, and the residents and families loved it!


Andrea loves meeting new people and enjoys the fact that she is helping and supporting others.


Andrea has lots of hobbies, enjoys being a mother, keeping fit and being very sociable.

Claire Woods

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2000

I started working at Beckside as a bank carer in August 2000. I found that caring for people and being able to enhance their lives was rewarding, so I took a permanent position where I worked predominantly with nursing clients. After a few years, I progressed to a senior carer, which gave me a better understanding


After several years, I decided that I would like to enhance my knowledge to ensure that the residents were getting the best care and enrolled in a nursing degree.


After completing my degree, I worked away from Beckside for a short period, but I missed the environment and the rapport that is built with our residents and families. When offered the opportunity to return to Beckside full-time, I agreed immediately.


I returned as a night nurse before taking secondment as Clinical lead, and I then accepted the role of Deputy Manager, which allows me to support Andrea to maintain the high standards that Beckside offer.


I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to return. It feels like home!

Sue

Sue Gill

Job Title: Head Housekeeper Joined: 2011

Sue is the Head Housekeeper at Beckside and has worked in the care industry for seven years, five of which have been at Beckside, where she achieved her NVQ 3 in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership.


Sue's day is varied, and she works hard with her team to ensure that the day-to-day running and cleaning of the home is adhered to. The most exciting part for her is when visitors say positive things about the home.


After many years of working as a Sales Manager both in fitness and footwear, Sue decided she wanted to take on another challenge, so she trained and went to study as a Therapeutic Counsellor, where she gained her Diploma, alongside other qualifications linked with counselling.


Sue also has qualifications, including the Care Activities Organiser Certificate and a Level 3 in an End of Life Course.


When Sue is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, eating out and playing with her four grandchildren.


A little unknown fact about Sue is that she used to be an ear model!
