My mother stayed here after a fall at home. We found the staff of Beckside to be extremely helpful, caring and supportive during my mother’s stay. Nothing was too much trouble and any help my mother needed was given with kindness and good cheer. The room was very pleasant and the food good. My mother is quite happy to stay here again should the need arise.

Care at Beckside it's very good. The entire care team is friendly, personable and professional. Facilities are reasonable although some of the bedrooms would benefit from a facelift. Catering and laundry services work well, outside spaces are well maintained and entertainment is first class. Nursing staff members are excellent.

I spent 5 weeks in the home while my partner was unable to care for me having just come out of hospital herself.
Everyone of the staff made my stay very comfortable and catered to all my needs.

We were well entertained with trips out and quizzes. Everything was very good during my stay here.

After reviewing eight homes of suitability for care for my mother, I chose Beckside for the following reasons: (1) the number of care staff available over 24 hours was visibly greater than all other homes visited (2) level of cleanliness was better (3) fresh food prepared in own kitchens. The care and attention received during my mother's year of occupation lived up to expectations as being very good. The only downside was that room was quite small, but adequate.

We visited a large number of care homes in the area and used some for respite care before deciding on Beckside.

The level of care and attention afforded by the staff far exceeded any others and we were more than pleased with the decision to put Mum in their kind and compassionate home.

My mum needed 24-hour care and after much research I chose Beckside. It has a good reputation especially end of life care. I wanted a 'home' for Mum where she could make friends and have an active social life. Beckside has a great activity programme and family and visitors are always welcome. It looks on to a lovely park and is so easy to get to. She had her own room and facilities too. Unfortunately for my mum, it was too late but Beckside's end of life care was wonderful. She always said the ladies were killing her with kindness! Mum liked a whisky and they didn't mind. I couldn't have wished for her to be anywhere else when she passed away!

To be able to leave your much loved, frail and elderly parent in the care of a nursing home in total confidence that they are safe, secure and happy is precious beyond belief! Beckside gave us that confidence on a daily basis. Every single member of staff throughout each discipline treated my mother and us as if we were a part of their family. Each one displayed an innate kindness and concern for our well being that we will never forget. My Mother's last weeks were peaceful thanks to this fabulous place! As her illness progressed I was practically living in the home too, so I saw and heard how staff interacted with each other and residents at all hours of the day and night. I witnessed only care, compassion and good humour even when staff were dealing with immensely challenging situations. I heartily recommend Beckside to everyone in the knowledge they brought peace to our family at the most traumatic time - Thank you Beckside Staff - each and every one of you!

My mum came to live at Beckside Care Home initially for palliative care. Her initial fears were quickly relieved by the friendly welcome and homely atmosphere. She chose her room and a comfortable recliner chair was provided for her use. In fact, my mum outlined her original diagnosis by over a year and I put this down to the excellent care she received.

My mother has been a resident at Beckside nursing home for approximately 6 months. This has been life changing and at times a traumatic time for our family. However, the skill and compassion shown to our family have made this time bearable. The staff are kind and caring. The meals are great and plentiful and a fantastic range of activities are organised for those who wish to join in. The fabric of the building is showing signs of wear but the staff themselves make Beckside a first class establishment. I cannot thank them enough for making us feel that our mother is safe and cared for when we needed help.

I observe that residents are treated with respect, are encouraged to be active and sociable and are well cared for. The majority of staff are friendly, understanding and provide a good all round standard of care, appropriate to the individual.
The home has a welcoming atmosphere, is clean and free from unpleasant odours.
Residents clothes and belongings are well cared for. The provision of services, like hairdressing and chiropody, is very helpful.

During the last weeks of my aunt's life, her care was well managed, sensitive and appropriate, I appreciated that.

My mother came to Beckside for end of life care. The home itself is very well kept, tidy, well maintained. The room my mother had was well furnished and maintained. The staff and managers could not have been kinder or more accommodating.

Nothing was too much trouble and they were very approachable and understanding at a very sad time. The room was also very clean with easy accessibility.

My dad initially went to Beckside for 2 weeks respite as he was struggling been on his own following the death of my mum a few months previously. As he was also requiring help and support for his palliative care. He then remained at Beckside for a number of weeks until he passed away due to deteriorating health.

As a family, we were impressed with the care and time spent caring for dad and us as well. I can't praise highly enough how he was looked after and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others considering Beckside for a loved one.

We feel extremely fortunate that we were able to obtain a place for my mother at Beckside. My wife and I visited my mother often, so we were able to see the care being given to her on many occasions. We were always impressed by the high standard of care and the kindness shown to my mother, and also the kindness and consideration shown to us.

Andrea Brooks
Andrea BrooksJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 1995

Andrea began her career with the Trust in September 1995 as a relief carer working in the residential and nursing unit, gaining invaluable experience working with the nursing team. Andrea went on to be promoted to the role of Senior Carer and, at that time, achieved her NVQ Level 2. Andrea then went on to become a Care Leader and achieved her NVQ Level 3. Andrea later became a Home Manager and achieved her QCF Diploma Level 5.

Andrea loves coming to work and has an excellent bond with her team and the residents. Andrea has an open-door policy and welcomes anyone who would like to meet with her.

One of the fond memories is meeting the Duke of Gloucester, which was an amazing day, and the residents and families loved it!

Andrea loves meeting new people and enjoys the fact that she is helping and supporting others.

Andrea has lots of hobbies, enjoys being a mother, keeping fit and being very sociable.

Claire Woods
Claire WoodsJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2000

I started working at Beckside as a bank carer in August 2000. I found that caring for people and being able to enhance their lives was rewarding, so I took a permanent position where I worked predominantly with nursing clients. After a few years, I progressed to a senior carer, which gave me a better understanding

After several years, I decided that I would like to enhance my knowledge to ensure that the residents were getting the best care and enrolled in a nursing degree.

After completing my degree, I worked away from Beckside for a short period, but I missed the environment and the rapport that is built with our residents and families. When offered the opportunity to return to Beckside full-time, I agreed immediately.

I returned as a night nurse before taking secondment as Clinical lead, and I then accepted the role of Deputy Manager, which allows me to support Andrea to maintain the high standards that Beckside offer.

I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to return. It feels like home!

Sue Gill
Sue GillJob Title:Head HousekeeperJoined: 2011

Sue is the Head Housekeeper at Beckside and has worked in the care industry for seven years, five of which have been at Beckside, where she achieved her NVQ 3 in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership.

Sue's day is varied, and she works hard with her team to ensure that the day-to-day running and cleaning of the home is adhered to. The most exciting part for her is when visitors say positive things about the home.

After many years of working as a Sales Manager both in fitness and footwear, Sue decided she wanted to take on another challenge, so she trained and went to study as a Therapeutic Counsellor, where she gained her Diploma, alongside other qualifications linked with counselling.

Sue also has qualifications, including the Care Activities Organiser Certificate and a Level 3 in an End of Life Course.

When Sue is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, eating out and playing with her four grandchildren.

A little unknown fact about Sue is that she used to be an ear model!
